Hi mate great to see your video! I'm doing the knowledge.. I use a satnav for my day job and it's invaluable in suburban areas where it works it's crap in london because we use gps which is american. however europe will soon launch a new satelite system whic is much more accurate than gps and will be acurate to within mms however I do believe the knowledge should remain. although I think tfl will soon come under pressure to allow anyone to cab in london!!!!!
Hi mate. Can you give me a few hints on how you did the knowledge so quickly as I have recently been laid off work and I really want to take the plunge but am worried about how long it will take me. Also, what did you do for money as 23 months makes me think you were a full time boy. Any help would be great!!!!
@MrBailiff1 I worked simultaneously as a minicab driver, and each they p****d me off, or spoke to me like an idiot, I worked harder. Time depends on many factors - your current financial situation, marriage, children, mortgage, and of course, most importantly - how good your memory is. I learned a few memory tricks from reading Tony Buzan's memory books - about 15 years ago I read how to memorize a pack of cards, and did it in 3 days with only 2 mistakes, the next time it took an hour & a half
@Stormcab Thanks so much for replying. You are very kind. I`m going to bite the bullet and do it now. One less Westminster ANPR Bailiff off of the streets LOL!!! Can you recommend a good Knowledge school or are they a waste of time mate????
Let's all face it. in 20 years time, cars will be driving themselves. BMW have already made their 3 series drive by themselves useing GPS.
There would always be the old school way of doing things, but coming on up on a tech age? Where you got everyone useing GPS systems opposed to useing maps or memory... Well, it will die eventuly.
Sat Nav in Japan has shops marked. Seven Eleven, MacDonalds, that kind of thing. It will never know more than people who have the knowledge but it knows a lot more than you said.
@BobCassidy I am sorry but you appear to have contradicted yourself there. How can it never know more than people but know more than I said? There are about 70,000 streets in London, and probably a million nationwide - including hundreds of thousands of points of interest - how will "people" ever know this much?
Mweh, a bit messed up. What I mean to say is that SatNav will have problems with what route to take at what time, that kind of thing. but it can already tell you what shop to go to and where to get cigarettes or to find a cash point.
I truly agree with you...satnav simply cant beat the human mind,,and whatever you have explained its excatly how it works in reality.and bobcassidy have some research about the black cab knowledge.
Well firstly it's Illiterate not illeterate - that speaks for itself as to your intelligence level - a 3 year old. Secondly I did the knowledge in 23 months not 4 years. Thirdly I have SAT NAV and I haven't hid the fact that I do, but I don't use it for directions I use it to find door numbers given to me by my radio circuit - I did say this is not about how rubbish SAT NAV is, but that it won't replace knowledge. I am wearing cords and shoes and NEVER wear shorts - GET A LIFE YOU SAD LOSER
k44bul removed his stupid and moronic comment (above) when I replied to it here, but I want people to see what he said to see just how much of a loser he is; so here's the reply that was still in my inbox -
k44bul - 4 Years hard work and, he also has a SAT NAV... What a wanker!!, What a hypocrite...
He is talking shit, bet he is wearing shorts and flip flops... illeterate uneducated tosser
@Stormcab this guy works for addison lee I reckon ,by the way I was only sending you up about henrieta I have been cabbing for 25 years and you are cool .
@staypress why thank you. Funnily enough I was contacted by a University student recently wanting my input on a London Taxi manifesto, he discovered me through these videos I have here. So a couple of days ago I decided to have another little listen to this one to remember what I said and spotted this error and thought 'oh god that's going to come back to haunt me'.
He's spot on! I went to a party in Harrow, called a mini cab from my hotel and told the driver where I wanted to go and he replied "Where's that?" I was a stanger in a strange place and a so called cab driver, with a sat nav I may add, is asking me the way! He was useless, asking me for the post code, radioing back to the office, he ended up asking a passer by!
I'm an Addison Lee driver and bzee17 is right. My knownledge has dropped badly as I longer have to callover streets on the radio. But Sat Nav does have a use you only need to see any Blck Cab which now have Sat Nav. I think the Knownledge needs to brought up to date as a lot of what is required to pass is not needed. Saying that I'm about to start the Knownledge to go from Mini Cab Scum lol to respectable Taxi driver. 3 Years well Like I say a lot of rubbish to be learned to forget after passing
Welcome to the real (TAXI) cab driving world. Sat Nav helps as a reminder. But your knowledge is always the most useful weapon in your arsenal.
For example in the city if you get flagged you need to make an instant decision, head north, south etc or u-turn, you can't pull over on a red route and enter the info you MUST know where to go, a wrong choice and you could be heading over London Bridge whilst trying to get to Highbury Corner!!!
Great Video, Spoken like a true cabby. London cabbies truly are the best on the planet bar none.

I find these videos interesting. You should get a job on Fifthgear or something. I liked your Vito review.

london cabbies do use sat navs ,it makes sense .if someone wants to go outside the six mile radius, what are they supposed to do guess
bluespace12 2 years ago
Sat nav does brainwash you and makes you lazy. Only use it to find house numbers, good for finding out which side to approach it from.
