  • Dostoevsky was right about the jews... Liberals are a cancer

  • From The Idiot Part3 ch1. Liberalism is not an attack on the existing order of things, but is an attack on the very essence of things, on the things themselves . . .

  • Why tag it in English when you speak Russian?!

  • Dostoevsky was one of the greatest writer/philosophers ever, even rivalling such philosophers as Plato and Nietzsche.

  • Heartily agreed

  • yea, but my only beef is that he was known for not being a nice person like tolstoy haha

  • don't give me that b.s. please...

What did Dostoevsky ever do that wasn't "nice"? Besides, you aren't being nice by trying to sling mud on the reputation of a dead man...you know what they say about talking about the dead who cannot defend themselves.

And, please, if you say something about anti-semitism, I'll want to scream! The world is tired of hearing that phrase thrown about flippantly over and over.

  • sorry to be a little bit rude in my previous comment...but, I have had people so often to bring up this charge of "anti-semitism" against Dostoevsky, and it gets me angry just to think that this sin of "anti-semitism" seems to be the only sin that the some (not all) Jewish people never forgive. Where is the outrage over other moral sins? I know we all have our shortcomings though, and one of mine is that I let this subject get to me a bit too much. Peace. Lets try to let our pet "sins" die.

  • well actually i wasnt going to say something like that. but there is a story of him when he was with a close friend of leo tolstoy's on a trip and tolstoys friend heard dostoevsky screaming at his servant at the top of his lungs about how the servant wasnt human and was less than him. also people actually said he was a vile man and spent most of his time wrapped up in his emotions. then again, dostoevskys wife says the opposite

  • Well, from reading his books, do you think he was a vile man? You should be able to get the spirit of the man from reading his books. I feel certain that he passed through a stage in early life where he could be a very vile man. But, if you read THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, which was his masterpiece written near the end of his life, you'll find it hard to believe that he was really a vile man. Even CRIME AND PUNISHMENT exhibits some of the beginnings of this reawakening of morality in vilest men.

  • i am reading the Brothers Karamazov. and in my opinion there is always a cold edge in his books. he was known not to be a pleasant man. and from his life experiences i think its safe to say that he may not have been the nicest person in the world. by the way it was known that he didnt hate just jews but everything that wasnt russian pretty much. i would say that dostoevsky is smart and has alot of good things to say but he isnt a good person nor an enlightened being. but just very intelligent

  • You are welcome to your opinion, and if you don't think he was a nice person, then I guess to you he wasn't. Nobody can argue with that. But, I would venture to say that there is a high chance you are Jewish or have been influenced by Jewish people, because it is usually them that seem to dislike Dostoevsky with more passion than anyone else. Just know that I think he was a nice person, and I don't think he "hated Jews" as you imply. This shows that it is often hard to understand each other.

  • im not jewish and idont understand what you mean by influenced by jewish people.the only people i know that read dostoevsky are philosphy majors and a palestinian. i just like to form my own opinions and read about what other people had to say about him.also i dont really like to racial/ religious borders so i dont understand the statement influenced by jewish people. also they dont like dosoevsky because he was one of the few authors available to jews during their stay in the ghettos during WW2

  • Likely, if you go back and read the articles where you saw Dostoevsky being called anti-semitic, you will find that the author has a name like "Goldstein, Schmidt, Levy, Cohen, Hoffman, Silver" or some other German/Polish last name. Often, when you see a German/Polish/Russian last name in an academic or technical field, there is a high chance that the person is Jewish. You can almost know for certain if you see the name paired with an old testament first name. LIkely, these were the authors.

  • but can you make any defense against the germans only allowing jews to read certain authors? one of the prominent books being the idiot ?

  • I'm not going to make some kind of defense about this. Regardless of what the Germans thought about Dostoevsky's book--I like it as well, and so do many Jewish people today. You can read the books and you will judge for yourself that there is not alot of anti-semitism in the books. I think that Dostoevsky didn't like certain aspects that tend to be associated with Jewish people--just as I'm sure Jewish people don't like some aspects about Christians. No need to censor the free views of a man

  • im not sure why you are getting so up in a bundle about him being anti semitic. it was a common thing in his time and alot of people were like that

  • Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla :)
