I used to get so annoyed when the radio jock would talk all over the end of this song, as if they never ever listened to it all to realize there was some really great stuff at the end. It is great to be able to hear the ENTIRE song. Thanks.
From the Spring of '66, this is an all-time vocal/ production masterwork from Bob Gaudio, Bob Crewe, & The Walkers. Haunting & Heartbreaking. Wolfsky9
I happened upon this song on the radio and really liked it, but I wish I were born even later. I'd love to have another era or two worth of music to explore.
A great record from a smashing bunch of guys. I was so lucky to of been around in those days. I feel sorry for the younger generation today, there's nothing left for them now musically because we had the cream of the crop of music and talent. There's nothing or nobody these days who will ever come close to the quality and standards back then. Thank you for posting.
I gotta admit, I found this song from the Walking Dead trailer last year. Since then, I've found a fondness for the Walker Bros. Its good to know they live on(find me one person who saw the WD trailer and didn't look up this song). This pretty much captures a certain sadness. Not miserable, just.....sad.
Yes the Righteous Bros. could very well have done this tune, and not many would know the difference. Picked up a DVD called Scott Walker 30th Century Man. He's been living the life of a recluse for over 40 some years now, and recording about 1 album every 10 years or so....sorry to say..the music is very very shocking and scary...almost satanic in a sad way....nothing at all like this tune, or Bacharach's "Make it Easy On Yourself"....he was born in Hamilton, Ohio!
I know that the production of this version by the Walker Brothers sounds like a Phil Spector work, but I still prefer the Original song by Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, not this cover, but I like this too!
Boy .. two legends lost recently (at least two) John Walker and Rob Grill. These songs remind me of working 48 hours a week and living at home with parents, just to buy a Muscle Car to go cruising (GTO's , Chevelles)
My husband died May 16th 2011& & we would have been married 40 years this Fall. This song expresses exactly how I feel. When I hear this song it helps me shed the tears that I try to hold back that really need to be released. A good CRY helps with the grieving & some of those "hurting" songs help get it out where it`s bottled up inside. The Walker Bros. do such a marvelous job....the right voice & wonderful music.
@TheAngelCrab -- I am so sorry to read of your loss. I know the time you were together was not long enough. I lost my wife of 28 years just 8 months ago to cancer and am finally beginning to want to live again. It was the 2nd marriage for both of us and we knew this one was right. She was my One Great Love and the best friend I've ever had. I never thought the tears would ever stop--they may not--but they are becoming fewer and are beginning to bring back the good memories. God bless you.
Played this cut on my evening air show on WOAI-AM, 1200Khz., 50-KW, in late 1969-early 1970....Had numerous requests from all over the US, Canada and Mexico...I do hear a Phil Spector sound/influence...Music like this will never be the same again...Real Golden Age R&R....Miss it...!!!
@paradesound You are so right about that! I am a real 60's music lover and I'm so greatful for YouTube so we can listen to these beautiful songs. My favorite singer is Gene Pitney. I must have attended 40 concerts between 2000- 2006. Late groupie but it sure was fun!
@paradesound Nice, i'm 31, but have always said that I was born in the wrong generation. DEFIANTLY a Phil Spector wall of sound influence (I actually looked it up last year to see if he had produced it since it sounded just like something he'd do). I'm not sure, but it sounds like Hal Blaine playing drums on this song, not many people had this drum sound in 66 (Hal's Monster kit).
Now an old guy saw the Walker Brothers in Manchester England at Odeon Oxford Road in I think 1969 on with Roy Orbision, Lulu and others whom I can't remember. At the time they were very big in the UK and could not hear their performance.
Roy Orbison however would not sing until everybody was quiet.
They were a great group very big in UK in mid to late 60's. Great records still being played on advert on TV tonight.
God I hate Walking Dead fans.. They are almost as bad as GTA fans. When they hear Beethoven's 9th they probably say "OMG Clockwork Orange!!!". Well, maybe they haven't seen it cos it was made before 2005.
A couple of months ago I found out my high school lost a fight with a wrecking ball and today I discover that John is dead. What's the connection? This song was No1 the day I was born and another part of my history is gone. That's life. R.I.P. John.
Cant help thinking if this great song had been released now for the first time it would be a huge success as it seems timeless to me. That beautiful voice of Scott Engel. mmmmmmm. We never got enough of it.
I'm 47 years old now and first heard this song, when I was about twenty and I loved it from the start! It's good to see that so many young people appreciate this song, because of the Walking Dead trailer. I am a teacher by profession and teach young kids between 16 and 20 years old; I can assure you most of them know this song by the Walker Brothers and they love it. Despite hiphop, house or whatever...they still love the sound of the sixties!!

@80sVidLover Don't think you are the complete cause of a situation, there are always other factors, don't let despair get you, give thanks to the blessings you have right now...and turn to the one who pulled me out of a similar situation..Jesus Christ...seven years ago I lost my job, my house, my wife and had no one to turn to. At my lowest, lonliest point , He came into my life, pulled me out of that pit, and I have not been lonely or in despair since..trust Him, He loves and cares for you.
Just like a Martin Scorsese film, the story goes that this song was playing when British mobster Ronnie Kray (of the Kray twins) shot and killed George Cornell in the Blind Beggar pub in London.
This record is my all time favourite . The most perfect pop song ever recorded and i never tire of playing it. Agreat arrangement by ivor raymode . It knocks Frankie Valli`s original into the long grass superamos31
@Westcroft Yes, but maybe the producers though it would be a good idea to pick a band that had the name "walker" in it, because that's what the zombies are called.
The choir in the background makes this song. Terrific production.
