i saw the skipped week and didnt think to much about it week with out books no biggie that time of year is crazy anyway i didnt even think about the gift certificates and i usually get a couple every year and i still dont understand how there is only 1 distributor

Okay, I don't know as much about the Industry as you guys, but what is stopping the Local Comic Stores from promoting the Trades and Graphic Novels that week? Couldn't they make HUGE money with an Epic Trade Sale.

You are completely right. Stores will have to think of different ways to bring people into the shop that week.

If somebody shops at a store who doesn't carry a lot of trades or back issues though that may suck.

Diamond fucking sucks. I hate them because most of the time the comics they deliver are folded up in the box or kinda crushed. I read my shit a lot, but I also like to get a near mint comic when I'm payin upwards of $3.99 per fucking book.

I guess I take both sides in this issue. Some of the comic shops I go to are very small and my normal comic shop nearly got closed a couple years back, so I'm a little concerned for them, but I'm sure they'll pull through.

I will buy a lot of tpbs that week at my comics relator & Amazon. Yes its not new material but I will spend money on comics. I appreciate this discussion on comics distrubution. To say that Diamond isnt a monopoly is to say cigarettes arent addictive & cause cancer.

Also, Diamond will still have to pay their staff (unless the labour laws in the USA are really fascist), they will probably just have to pay them their normal hourly rate and give them extra vacation days for the xmas week.

Anyway this wouldn't be unusual over here, the whole country pretty much closes till December 29....

don't people in the USA want to spend time with their families rather than go shopping?....yeah yeah stupid question I know :P

I guess they won't have to pay staff overtime to come in but thats about it I would have though.

In the U.S., unless you are paid a salary, you don't get paid for days you don't work. I am GUESSING most of these people who are working at Diamond's warehouses who pack up the product get paid HOURLY and are not on salary. They may get some compensation for not having to work for over a week but I don't see them getting paid otherwise.

For the fans....if someone is THAT needy that they can't go a week without comics then thats really pathetic tbh. I'm usually fucking skint the week after xmas anyway!

for the stores, I guess some will get creative and have back issue specials or special offers on trades or something to try and make back some of the money they otherwise make.
