I like trolley buses. They are fun to ride, and I like the sound they make. Toronto got rid of their fleet back in 1993. Hamilton was the first, I think, in 1989. I don`t know why so many cities are retiring them. I think Vancouver is the only one left, and San Francisco in the U.S.
In an era when the new wave of governing leans towards hybrid power with batteries the future was already here with these electric buses or trolleys as you call them. The only thing unsightly are the wires above, but at an environmental level they are great, of course the people who use them can say otherwise.
Here in Australia the government would rather tax everybody for c02 rather than have a brilliant system like this. Cherish this system as it's brilliant.
@edmonton67 The Brills were retired in 1978 after the Commonwealth Games.. The province wanted them and the 50s GMC's to be retired because of the limited visibility through the windshields.
Edmonton's loss was Britain's gain. No 189 will run again under the wires in April 2010 with the world's largest collection of trolleybuses at Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum in England.
hello! beatiful and sad video at the time, I'm writing from Chile, when our old trolleybuses, 1948-53' Pullman Standard are still working, we also had in our fleet some second-hand swiss trolleybuses, but they aren't as strong as Pullmans ones, can I ask you if you know something about those BBC trolleybus seen on the video...Are they still stored? How many of those remains? Because I seen than the Vancouver's Flyers were sold to Argentina and they told me about Edmonton's one.....
they should bring them back into commission in Edmonton.

I'm very glad they've been removed from service and the awful web of overhead wires is gradually being swept away.
