Basic rule in handling hot peppers, always protect your skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Your problem is you got the oil on your hands and kept wiping your face. An "allergy" to capsaicin would affect you with any hot pepper, not just this one.

It IS possible to eat this pepper..... don't loose heart. And actually it is very good for you. You see, as to starting to eat anything spicy like these peppers,One needs to take MINSCULE bites at a time. For example in this case it would have been better to start off with a 1/2 size of a red pepper flake. Hot peppers are great for cleaning out infections in our bodies. So enjoy this, just one step at a time :) Some have pain in chest some have in sinus area. I eat Cayenne when I'm cold. :)
