My lecturer showed this to us in English Literature the other day. As a feminist AND an English Lit student, i have to say: WHY AREN'T THESE DOLLS AVAILABLE IN REAL LIFE??? :(
Tune in next Saturday morning as the Bronte Sisters face their most evil nemesis yet-Stephanie Meyer, ultimate destroyer of the English language! Will Charlotte, Emily, Anne, and the Brontesaurus save the day again? Or will Stephanie take over the world with her sparkly fairies? Find out in the epic season finale of the Bronte Sisters!
Wuthering Heights - interminable hours of reading about a bitter, unhappy man pining for some dead woman he's placed on such an impossibly high pedestal that she's forced to come back as a ghost just to torture him even more. I felt bad for the impoverished help and the dogs. Or did I miss something?
I think it is because unlike Charlotte and Emily, who romanticized the brooding, moody, flawed, and even villainous Byronic hero in their depictions of characters such as Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights) and Rochester (Jane Eyre), Anne totally slams the 'bad boy' type in novels such as The Tenant of Wildfell Hall where the heroine marries the sexually attractive libertine, thinking that she can reform him, and pays the price...
Yes i totally agree; anne's work definitely portrayed a more realistic view of society, as opposed to emily's (sorry, haven't read charlotte yet- i'm a bad person, i know) romanticised portrayal of violence and villainy. Do you think thnk this may be why anne's work was to some extent suppressed?
Both emily and charlotte though seem to condemn alcoholism and gambling (Emily's Hindley and Anne's Mr Huntingdon). I'm told this is because of the antics of Branwell, their brother
@StephenBagley247 Jane Eyre is fantastic: you should definitely read it! You are right: contemporary reviewers were shocked by the frank ("coarse") portrayal of alcoholism & adultery & the fact that Arthur tries to force himself on Helen when she is pregnant. Another major cause of outrage: that she leaves her husband - and takes their son with her! Apparently the treatmen of addiction was indeed inspired by Bramwell. Have you read the fab biography The Brontes by Juliet Barker? It is excellent!
Yes I have got it and definitely plan to read it over the next few weeks, at the moment i'm reading a book called "The Crimes of Charlotte Bronte." it is somewhat dramatic, claiming that Charlotte killed both Anne and Emily. Very interesting but i am not sold on that theory...lol the author does present some very compelling evidence though...
@StephenBagley247 Whoa- That sound crazy - but good, like a sensation novel! I will look it up on amazon.Check out this funny cartoon highlighting Anne's impatience with brooding (read: jerky) men. I love her expression in the final picture. (For some reason you tube won't let me type the link, so google "Hark a Vagrant" and "Bronte": it is number 202) Emma

Now if they'd only team up with Mary Shelley and Jane Austen, they could form an entire feminist-super-powered-literary-League. (I see Mary Shelley as the leader with Jane Austen in more of a sidekick role).
it would be awesome to give such toys to kids! and there should be action figures with various women scientists, too! just imagine little girls playing courageous scientist who will fullfil their dreams...
I hope you all at least tried to get the rights to air this as a fake commercial during the Clone High run. Sort of like the Mr. Hankey Home-Kit commercial that South Park did.
This wasn't aired? If anything would've gotten kids interested in the Bronte's, it was this!
The most amazing thing about this video is that it was made with no intention of being posted on YouTube (since it didn't exist yet), yet it fits right in here! It's pure humor, and you weren't concerned with "going viral." Great job!!
