I love Elvis' version of this song - I know he didn't live a perfect life, but we cannot know the struggles he encountered. I believe that, no matter what, God is a loving God and will never abandon us. Elvis was a very faithful man, but was also very conflicted. He gave his fans a huge part of himself - 100% of the time (who can do that and stay in the Spirit?). I loved him as a child - and will love and pray for him my entire life - we miss you EP
There's nobody who sings this like Elvis, he's the best! His voice is like an angel. Pure and straight from the heart! I think there were two great spiritual voices in the world, male and female - Elvis Presley and Mahalia Jackson.
We played this version at my 85 yr old mom's funeral this past Friday. She LOVED Elvis and also this song...so it was perfect. He did a beautiful job singing this. Thank you Elvis. Miss you mom!
I'm playing this song in a funeral tomorrow. I never knew this song before - I am learning it for the first time from this beautiful recording of Elvis Presley's expressive version. Music like this revives my faith.
ELVIS was a piece of shit. He couldn't play an instrument, admitted he only knew 2 chords on guitar, couldn't dance, just moved his arms but NEVER his feet, couldn't compose & was a marginal singer. Fat motherfucker He just copied what the colored musicians on the chitlin circuit did. Fat son of a bitch died on the commode trying to launch a 50 LB turd. How fitting! Now the cemetery worms are enjoying his fat drug filled rotting carcass. At least he is doing some good finally. Fat fuck! LOL
This sounds so much like my brother, Don, singing. He and his C&W band did a USO tour in Vietnam. He now lives is another state and I don't get to hear him sing anymore. I wish I could go back and have him living next door again, so I could hear him sing anytime I wanted.
My dad requested only one song be played at his funeral-this beautiful tune. I honored his request and now this song has more meaning to me than ever. I loved my dad so much and pray I'll be with him again one day.
My grandmother was also 92 when she died and she never heard this song as far as I know. She lived in Mexico, but she prayed that the Lord Jesus would be with her just like the song says. God bless.
Este hermoso himno se titula "A SOLAS AL HUERTO YO VOY" lo cantamos bastante en la iglesia METODISTA... Saludos y bendiciones a todos desde Chile! :D 2da Iglesia Metodista de Lota :)
i woke up this morning with a song in my heart. this is one of them. he has such a wonderful voice. i also listened to he touched me, by elvis. very beautiful. i remember them both from my childhood and still associate them with my grandmother. they fill my heart with warmth and love. thank you Jesus for elvis who helps fill our hearts with joy and love.
Another one of my favorite songs. As I was told by my Warmonger, whoremonger, slavemonger genetic family and their friends in the mental 'health' care system, you can not have heard his voice, who do you think you are so important that Jesus has time to talk to you? I tell them, well I'm sure you doubting Thomas' and Thomasina's try to keep him busy, but He finds the time. They insist, you are not allowed to 'Hear Voices'! I told one then you go away and shut up, Just behaving!
This was my precious little mother's favorite hymn. When I was a little girl I would hear her singing and humming this song. She is now one of the faithful who are among the "Great cloud of witnesses" who someday I will get to see again......
I especially love the Evening Hymn when sung by Flvis.Such a touching song written by a truly great man of God.O how i wish i would have met him in person to show my appreciation.May God bless his Generations following..
This was my grandfather's favorite hymn and I am surprised to learn it was written in 1912. I thought it was much older. I love this song, too, and get teary-eyed every time I hear it. :-)
Your grandfather's song has touched so many souls that it is impossible to count. Bless his heart for this soul-stirring song, and thank you for letting us know the circumstances of its origin. God be with you and yours.
My grandmother passed away last month at age 92, with a sound mind and ready heart. Her first time to be hospitalized. What a blessing that was in itself. I'm almost thirty years old, but I remembered so clearly as a small child her telling me that "In the Garden" was a hymn that always meant so much to her. And I sang this while I laid beside her in the hospital bed. And as she passed away. I know He was walking with her then, but I felt such comfort knowing that He was there beside me too.
@maddison876 God bless you dear, what a wonderful grandaughter u were, I am sure the angels were smiling down on you while you were with her, one day we shall all be together with him in heaven and what a glorious day that shall be !
This is my Mom's favorite hymn also. I sang it for her in church one Sunday. She will 92 on the 19th of this month and it will definitely be sung when the angels come for her.
@maddison876 I love this song, too! My grandmother loved this song and she and I both used to play this on the piano a lot. I always think of her when I hear it. She was born in the 1880s (!!!!) and I played the song on the piano during the 60s and 70s. Just goes to show how some songs are eternal!
@maddison876 It's been almost a year, and yet it seems like yesterday. I still miss her so much. I think of all the stories that I didn't write down, all of the recipes and patterns that are lost now, and how I will never hear her say, "Ohhh, Amber, so glad to see you, sit down, and tell me about your week...." I love you, grandmomma. thank you for making me, ME.
Obviously, different screen names. Same person. Not that it matters, really. Still a great song that reminds us of what we will go through, what they have went through, and how we will see each other again one day.
This man had a great gift; the ability to reach people through his music, whether it be gospel, rock, country or blues. Elvis found great joy in singing the music that meant so much to him, mainly gospel. Listen to that voice! What a loss the music world suffered on august 16th 1977. I was eleven, but that day is etched in my mind forever. Love always from Norway.
Nice to meet you TheRedheaded Soprano. I can remember meeting Dorothy Miles, daughter of Charles Austin Miles many years ago in Boston. I think of her every time I sing this beautiful piece.
This is one of my favourites, for every word is sung with a meaning way beyond comprehension as man would never understand...For that garden is Mistical and Magical and can take one on a journey through time too a place one can only dream about for their is only goodness in that mistical garden....Absolutely Divine..For their is know other words for it...Marrtinna really did out do himself here Always Jessie xxx

@alimac42 Life is so tender, so fragile, 'n so very precious! In the continuing days ahead when the quiet moments come 'n the hurt is hard to bear, Love will be your shelter 'n your comfort. You are held in gentle thoughts 'n prayers by all who love you 'n yours. Dear April, I have not met you personally, but we are family 'n Christ Jesus, I too, will be holding you 'n yours close to my heart, keeping you in my prayers. Love 'n Hugs Always and Forever! Your Sis in Christ Jesus .. Jo Ann
Thanks for sharing the story of your great-grandad. My dad requested this hymn to be sung at his funeral 3 years ago. The most beautiful song in the world.
The South shall Rise again! God Bless you Elvis! Nobody does it better than the King! Elvis know you love JESUS and your singing to the King of King right know in that great mansion in the sky. Thank you JESUS for giving us ELVIS for as long as you did. Elvis we love you and miss you very much. God gave the King that great angelic voice, natural good looks and a heart of gold! MikeUSA
My number one absolute favorite hymn, sung by one of the finest voices ever heard on this earth. What a blessing that we have his recordings and he will never truly be gone.
When I was younger, younger then today music like this gave me everything I needed, now as I come closer to my end, I have the feeling there is nothing after I passed away, that we all hope there is a god and "something after this" it makes me so sad you can't believe, I am lonely without friends they are gone and away. I wait till my time is up, and hope that there is a god Elvis sings about.. the songs that gave me so much in the past when I was younger then today! god bless you all.
@npccostumes I hope there is a god not only for me but for all people on this planet, rich and poor! I didn't lost my believe complete but sometimes a man wonders why he our Lord let things happen as the go. I hope you get all gods love you need, and hope you give it to someone lonley walking on the street in your town. Cause the god that made you, made them too. this isn't some nice text, this what I really do believe.
@monteur1965 oh Jesus me, you sound so sad, you make me weep, there are beautiful songs and people around on this channel, just get back to them, we will lift you up.
@monteur1965 There definitely is the God of love that Elvis and others sing of. This gives me great peace about the end of my earthly life. A more contemporary song that is awesome to me is "I can only imagine" sung by Mercy Me. It talks about the moment you stand in front of your Savior for the very first time. I truly hope you can feel the love and peace God offers through Jesus. We are assured a beautiful home in heaven with all believers in Christ. No sorrow or pain. Only love and joy.
@monteur1965 I don't know how old you are but you blessed me when I read your post. We don't just hope there is a God, he is real and he waits for us. Your friends may be gone but I think they wait for you. Only God knows when your time will be, but if you can, call somebody to talk to. I wish I could speak with you, we would talk about how great heaven will be.
@monteur1965 I truly believe that there is something after this. And when it's our turn to go home, I truly believe that he walks with us and he talks with us, each and every one of us, when we get there. May you be truly Blessed until your turn comes to go home.
None of us know what was in Elvis' heart but I do know that it seems to me that he always sang his very best when singing Gospel songs. I have been listening to his version of this song since I was just a kid. I finally got the nerve to start recording some of these great old songs myself. If you are interested please stop by my channel sometime and see what you think of my efforts. I am very much an amature and certainly no Elvis....but then again who is.
@pauldewitt77 the human soul is as beautiful and special as the king Elvis Presley! Elvis is archetype of the human soul and to betray Elvisis to betray one humanity and some have done this because of materialism! :)
Furthermore without ones own soul one can never achieve spiritual things or heights, so there you have it from the man himself! God bless u n ur soul my friend n don't betray it for comfort n material wealth like many have done! Love & Peace
"In the Garden" was written by my great-grandfather, Charles Austin Miles. I am a classical vocalist but I'm told this piece is one of his most loved. It has been used in many movies, sung by every known singer, and was even featured in "Little House of the Prairie" once...funny...since it wasn't written until 1912. Written in a dark and dingy basement with no windows during a long period of rain.....I guess that's faith for you. I'm glad you all enjoy his music.
@TheRedheadedSoprano Thank you so much for sharing the story of your grandfather and this song! Elvis' version of it has always been one of my favorites.....and I fully expect to "run across him" singing it in heaven.....
In the Garden is like my most favorite of ALL songs. If I am feeling down I can listen to this song and it just seems to lift me up and give me comfort. My family jsut found out about 2 weeks ago that my great-nephew who is 19 has leukemia. Any prayers you have will be grateful.
Absolutely appreciate this upload. My mother sang it in our tiny church and I will be singing it in late July. The beauty of the lyrics still ring true after all these years. Thanks for sharing the story behind the song =)
@TheRedheadedSoprano - just amazing- your great-grandfather at the time im sure had no idea how many hearts he would touch for years to come- this song is probably my favorite religious song- nothing even compares to it except for MAYBE Amazing Grace- but this song truely melts my heart... just amazing.!
@TheRedheadedSoprano Bless you! Your great-grandfather was indeed, an inspiration to all of us! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing this mind-blowing story with us. I used to sing "his" song at Sunday School.
My Mom has just passed away and I glean an incredible strength and love from this song!
Studies show we tell our first lies at 4/5. No studies for when we stop and sadly, many never do. The most evil Illusion ever played on humanity, when Satanists posing as scientists introduced the 1913 Piltdown Man Hoax. 40 yrs later the Hoax was revealed, but the illusion sustained with a series of more diabolical "missing link" frauds. Elvis, came to know the truth. His grammys were for his Gospel music, when the king paid tribute to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ.
isn't it awesome that Elvis only won 3 Grammy Awards but all three were for Gospel music. And Elvis knew it was GOd who gave him the voice. I am looking forward to singing with him in heaven when i get there.
My Grandmother was my hero. She was the finest Christian I have ever known and she taught me about the love of Jesus. She lived next door and each morning we spent time in her beautiful garden together... This was our song... And Elvis sang it so beautifully.
Lindo, maravilhoso, sinto-me como se estivesse ao lado de Jesus no Jardim do Getsêmani, quando Ele orava e suava gotas de sangue por nossos pecados. Obrigada, Jesus, porque um dia estiveste nesse jardim!
Thanks for posting all the different version of singers of this song. They al are equally great. One of my favorite hymn we use during the family services. God Bless you!
We've all shared in Elvis' love for Jesus, which strengthens our Faith & hope.Thank God for old time religion! Spine, tingling, emotional melody! Peace via Music...VIVA MARIA!
Este era o hino predileto das meninas em nossa capela, todas as manhãs e noite quando fazíamos nosso culto de adoração a Deus, no internato, ao som do piano, tocado por excelente pianista, nos sentíamos mais perto de Deus! I love the voice the Elvis, beautiful song, Elvis the King! In The Garden.
I can remember riding down the road with my Mother about a year and half ago playin the Gospel Cd that I had burnt and this song came on. My Mommy looked at me and said when I die I want this played at my funeral. Little did I know that I would be playin that at her funeral just a couple of months after that. It makes me cry like a lil baby no everytime I hear it.
Elvis is so lucky, he experienced being so popular and contributed a lot of gospel songs to the world as inspirations before getting home in heaven. We all are going there but very few made it like Elvis did while here on earth.
We will all be singers in heaven when we get there.
Lembro-me com saudades do meu tempo de internato, onde este canto era o preferido na capela feminina, ao som de uma boa pianista, eram momentos de maior aproximação de Deus, ficou gravado em meu coração! I love Jesus!
Serenely beautiful!

Fat fuck! LOL

Great song, nice photos of Elvis.
One thing you should "edit" in the lyrics, in the first stanza, it should be "the Son of God discloses"..

At an Elvis concert once some young female fans wanted to show their appreciation by holding up a huge banner that read: ELVIS IS THE KING,
Elvis gently admonished them by saying, "No, Jesus is the king." Show the man had his priorities straight.

@monteur1965 It is comforting to know that when our faith waivers, God's love doesn't.

How on earth did a man, idolized by millions of women, keep his soul this way?
I am thinking it may be an incredible testament to his mother.
May they be together always.
pauldewitt77 1 year ago 2

Elvis is so lucky, he experienced being so popular and contributed a lot of gospel songs to the world as inspirations before getting home in heaven. We all are going there but very few made it like Elvis did while here on earth.
We will all be singers in heaven when we get there.
