good example of the show going wrong. got to keep its viewer base, no original ideas anymore, lets bleed the wife and throw in an excuse to keep him killing. now that we gave up on an authentic plot, we might as well make the show more provocative aka appealing with detailed rape stories. audience ratings going up.

The entire essence of Dexter is it's provocativeness. I don't understand how killing Rita and bringing in new characters is a lack of originality, seems to me like keeping all the same characters and not having "climactic" moments would be a lack of originality. This season is different from the previous, but I don't consider that a bad thing.
@atmb that is not what i wrote. what you are mentionning here are easy choices. originality comes with inventivity. you need to be inventive if you re to develop a character over the years. easy climaxes are crowd gatherers. just like rape. tv shows and entertainment touch a lot of people. they have a responsability. contemplating justified murder has been ticking me off, but thats what the show is about so i guess its fine. contemplating rape is just plain despicable.
Personally, I'm really enjoying this season, and I think it has potential to get even better. I just hope it doesn't become another season 3 sidekick story or a season 2 with Quinn trying to catch Dexter.
lumen is a mistake. dexter simply cannot rely on her, she is not trained to leave no traces and no matter how careful she is trying to be, she will most probably never come to the point where she loses her heedlessness and reckless instinctivity caused by emotion. dexter doesn't have that flaw. lumen is his only burden. lumen is a mistake.
i would love to see dexter and develop a close friendship type relationship in the season and then starting at the begining of season they start to realise that there feelings for each other run deeper than just friendship.

It would be sweet if in the last episode of the season Luman ends up giving her life to save Dexter. I would like to see Dex have to deal with another new "Emotion" hes never felt in the next season. I think that Luman will soon share that she has romantic fealings for Dex but he is just realizing that he actually FEELS love that he had with Rita and won't let go of that very easily. I think Dex will show that his feelings for Luman are more of Sister bond more than anything. I think it would be awesome If Luman becomes the best aprentace Dexter has had and hopefully stays loyal to Dex and doesn't screw him over like his past "Friends" have. the Show is Stronger than ever!!

I'm okay with julia styles, but i hate the lumen-character. she's a mess, she needs a psychiatrist, not dexter. and as for the last episode, it became obvious that bringing her rapists to justice the legal way is not enough for her. she won't be able to stop and keep dragging dexter into her mess.
This season has a more decent storyline as compared to the lame 3rd season. But it just doesn't have that special "thrill" that makes me eager to watch it, unlike seasons 1,2 and 4. By around the 5th episode of these seasons I was already really hooked.
@helljay92 Season 4 was awesome. Season 3 was alright, Miguel was annoying. 1 and 2 were awesome too! But I was hooked by episode 3 of season 5. I thought the opening to it was brilliant too.

@trento654 you're crazy and way too critical lol. All of them were great, and the only thing wrong with season 3 is that it was very slow & build up suspense :) Other then that this is still wayyyy better then a lot of other shows.
I kind of like them as a team. I hope we can all trust Lumen, so far she is pretty good character with some unfortunate happen to her, just like Dexter.
