@rockyman123456789 I'm still not quite sure what you're asking... mobs will spawn pretty much anywhere. I make sure they spawn inside my spawning area by lighting up the caves around it so that this is one of the only areas they can spawn.

@legatusrd good eye ; ) There is indeed one spawnable spot on each of the pads, but the chances of a mob spawning there are very slim, and pack spawns are not possible, so I always use a pack spawn to confirm that a block is spawnable.

@gultask I've noticed that they're EXTREMELY common in the new swamp biomes. The only issue is that, as far as I can tell, mushroom stew is the only food item that doesn't stack.

@777static777 I think that the only reason that it doesn't stack is because when it is done it needs to create space to put an empty bowl, and If Notch did indeed try to test it, it most likely would crash minecraft if you had no room to put an empty bowl and you had indeed stacked it....

@cobojojo yeah, that's what I assumed... he could code it so that if you don't have room for the bowl you just drop it though (although, I know nothing about coding so I don't know if this is possible.

Also, as a side note cake doesn't stack either...

@777static777 Cake diesn't stack for a clear reason, Common sense, if notch made cakes stackable that would be majorly over powered, something that can heal so much health, and stackable would be insane, Notch had to put some limits on these things.

Stupid question I know, but why aren't the mobs spawning in the room you're walking in when you turn the lights off? I mean there's plenty of room for them to spawn, and it doesn't clinch with the 24 blocks rule, I don't get it :/

@Antikia well, the 24 blocks rule has something to do with it - it effectively means that mobs are only able to spawn in half of the room. The other issue is that I still have caves to light up. Also, either I run the tests during the night time (when there are mobs on the surface) or during the day time when I have sunlight coming down through my mob system - both factors decrease spawn rates.

However, in episode one of Spawn Point you'll find a great tutorial on the lighting (which is actually what I watched to learn how to do it). I really wouldn't have anything to add, so at this stage there's no point in me doing a tutorial on the lighting. If enough people request it, I might do a tutorial regardless =)

yes.... I've finally finished the lights in my recreation of your lab thing. I'm like 90% done, but I don't know if you used cobblestone halfsteps or smooth stone and if the bottom of the canals is all smooth stone or not.

@SquareBoxRespawn I used smooth stone half slabs and the bottom of the canals is smooth stone (unless I missed a bit). There are also parts of the canals that are glass (because I have walkways that come up when the lights come on and they also block off some of the water, and I didn't want mobs spawning.

Hey! Test if spiders can spawn in 1 high ceiling pads please. There is a rumour that spiders can spawn in 1 high if the ceiling is glass (only then). I've made them spawn under 1 high cobble ceilings. This only worked if 2-tall high mobs also could spawn nearby (they only needed like 2x2x2 room though!). Please test this and make a vid for science :) Thanks!

There you can see they spawned naturally. I've lighted the world up after they spawned. It seemed I used a half-slab ceiling instead of a cobblestone ceiling like I said I did. My mistake. Dunno if it's important though!
