  • James and Larry are the best.I remember my friend let me hear The Barkays and I was hooked at the age of 7,lol....Been funking since then,lol.....I got their greatest hits and I roll me a stogey and jam my boys riding around my hood.

  • That Larry Dodson is always extra funky, the Barkays period, but that Larry----He's the coldest

  • quem sabe faz ao vivo!

  • word 2 James Brown it's 2 funky in here with James Knuck Alexander on that bass

  • And now you know why I love my dads records!

  • FUNK IN IT'S PRIME HELL YES AS KEENAN IVORY WAYANS WOULD SAY THAT IS SOME BOOGA NOSE FUNK. WE ARE SOUTHERN CAL.

  • Shit am in 2011 am groovin tho this!!!!! please bring music back before i hang myself. and tell rebecca black to retire. no direspect.

  • I hate to nitpick, but since this is one my favorite cuts EVER, I gotta point out that this is definitely not live -- they're lip syncing (most people probably know this). I was so excited when I searched and saw that there was a live performance of Holy Ghost! But alas...

But thanks for posting anyway. Even a lip-syncing Bar Kays is better than most of the hum drum twiddly dee dum out today. :-)

  • Ironic how today all these s0-called hip people of today are like watered down and their perceptions are so out of touch with reality to the point they will believe anything somebody or some unknowned source tell's them.

  • I was born in 62 and lived through all this great music and if I could have one decade back it would be the Rocking 70's Everybody was on point all genres of music..

  • @solomonmorris7: i know that's right ! the 70s RULED HARD man! Kiddies don't know what they missed, okay ?

  • @btinsley1 I was born in 1962 also August 26 ,1962

  • Larry Dotson made a good career move from the Temprees to lead the new Barkays.

  • These dude be jamming hard.Real funky with that bass line.I got their cd and bought wore it out.

  • Now this is funk!!!!!

  • @Greg14966 This is music! As it should be!

  • Damn funky good, but needs a redo! ..video sucks!

  • keep the funk live

  • OMG, I remember when my brother bought this record. He wore it out.

  • Burnette I agree!

  • Pretty Funky!

  • I have seen the Bar-kays dozens of times. This band NEVER got the accolades it deserves. I've seen them open for other groups and simply destroy them (I'm not going to mention any names) This may be the best LIVE funk band.

  • musta been some good s**t if he saw the Holy Ghost!!

  • Man I'm a bit disappointed - I expected more kicking and general anticsI know when I hear this song, I start actin' a pure monkey FOOL and do NOT care who sees!

  • God's Love is manifested in the Holy Ghost.

Quiz: What is the name of God? What is the Name of the Holy Ghost?

  • It kills me that they drop it out right as the break is getting thick! Do yourselves a favor and get that extended mix. SO CEEERIOUS!

  • that was some good sh_t if he saw the Holy Ghost!!

  • @bmuhamad You are exactly right. Song sat for three years and still didn't get much play for another five years. Think when they first recorded this in the early 70's who was doing anything close, way ahead of it's time.

  • Super heavy funk! The Bar-kays used to put it down fo real.

  • For the Church Girls

  • NOW YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH SOUL TRAIN&THE BAR-KAYS.

  • FUNK IT UP!!!!!!! YEP YEP!!!!!

  • Back when they had real bands on Soul Train. I was a mere baby during this time but I still miss it.

  • I understand that when they first recorded the song "Holy Ghost". The Record Company, Stax, put the song on the "shelf ". They thought the song was too advanced and their fans weren't ready for this song or some type of organized rebellion from church group...would be forthcoming...

  • put dis joint on at the cook-out with a bushel of crabs, deck of cards & a 5th of Henny and it's on & poppin!

  • @sda1225 ......and you know this....man!!:)

  • funky pixels!

  • If you are from DC you grew up and are still exposed to seeing live bands perform horn sections drums and all its called Go Go music...

  • Funk at its Best, no Plastic 21st Century Stuff...

    Amazing!

  • This is my favorite Bar-Kays song. Thanks so much for posting this clip. They were an incredible group.

  • watched unsung! Rick james before he became the super freak! used to go and watch the Barkays perform and took lots of pictures, can't you tell . He took the style and dress from the lead singer Larry dobson of the barkays!

  • these cats were featured on TV-ONE'S UNSUNG this past week and i can't stop watchin' it....their story is absolutely incredible. they showed footage of the plane wreck that killed OR and most of the band...NEVER KNEW THERE WAS A LONE SURVIVOR - THE TRUMPET PLAYER BEN CAULEY....his recollection of that day was chilling. there was actual footage shown of the rescuers pulling OR's body out of the chilly waters....for any "old school lover", unsung's documentaries are a "must-see".

  • @belovers4ever ......Dude I agree with u. That was a MUST SEE.

When they brung OR body out that water I Cried...It was a sad story.

  • @MrKoolkh you cried too??? man, that was crazy, wudn't it??? i was totally shocked to see that rare footage. hey, and speaking of "unsung", if i'm not mistaken, they will be covering "parliament" in the near future and my WHOLE HEAD is gonna be stuck to the tube!!!! lol unsung is "the best" show since soul train!!!!

  • @MrKoolkh i was shocked they showed that.... bless him, he looked sleep

  • This is the JAM!!! Love them jumpsuits:)

  • Mayne this jams

  • @soulmziklova The bands back then, were all original, with their own unique style. I wonder what it would be like if these bands: The Bar-Kays, Con Funksion, etc performed live with some of the performers today. Wouldn't that be interesting to see?

  • @soulmziklova The Bar Kays have been around since the 60's with Otis Redding. They couldn't fake the funk because everyone back then pretty much had similiar influences. By the way, Maurice White of EWF went to high school in Memphis where the Bar Kays originated.

  • This song has been sampled so much. Love this era todays music has nothing on this. Now you do not need much talent to "sing" or dance.

  • Comment removed
