@alarmboy01 The 1955 Chevrolet Biscayne began life as a super star to showcase the new Chevrolet 265 cubic-inch V8 engine and was featured at the 1955 Motorama
Nice too see this Concept survivor Car . And correct me if I'm wrong don't they destroy Concept Car's after they are done with it ? if so how did this one get away.
I am far from being a fan of GM, but I have an appreciation for old classic and concept cars like this, it will be nice to see this car finished, I hope that the restoration is going well on this part of history.
"Ugly" is irrelevant. This is car design history. It's a GM concept car from 1955...a design exercise constructed for public display. It was never intended to be manufactured in numbers (although features of it would appear on GM cars in the following years).
If you've never heard of concept cars like this, I recommend you seek the book: GM's Motorama: The Glamorous Show Cars of a Cultural Phenomenon by David Temple.
The 1955 Chevrolet Biscayne restoration is near completion and will be featured with three other GM Motorama Dream - Concept Cars at the 2010 Meadowbrook Concours in Rochester, MI. It will be the first time that the Biscayne has been seen in its restored condition since the Motorama carshow 55 years ago.
FROM THE REAR IT REMINDS ME OF A 63 CORVAIR THE FRONT REMINDS ME OF THE 53-54 VETTE AND THE SIDEDEFINATELY HAS VETTE FEATURES BUT WITH 4 DOORS AND REARS ARE SUICIDE. i HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND IN MY 48 YEARS AS A CAR FANATIC I'VE SEEN A LOT
@xtpuller Okay, putting everything in caps does not make it easier to read, it actually makes it a lot harder. so unless you have a hearing problem and are trying to express your loud, boisterous voice, please don't put a full paragraph in caps.
It's quite a tribute to Harley Earl to see how many of the styling innovations he made are still in use today. Panoramic windscreens are making a big comeback, how long till cars are sporting tail fins again?
It's not a question of whether it's beautiful or ugly(even though we all have our opinions). This is a piece of automotive history. Thought I'd never actually see one. Thanks for posting this.
Hi, Thanks for your comments! We have been fortunate to see the GM cars you refer to at the GM Tech center a few years ago and then again in August 2008 at the 100th Anniversary display of GM
The yard owner died a few years ago and it is currently operated by his son, a good friend. I work at the GM Tech Center and have done considerale work on some of the other old cars still in GM hands. The Buick Y Job, the Cadillac Cyclone, The Cadillac LeMans and the Buick LeSabre are but a few of them. Good to see them preserved, and fun to take part in the preservation and restoration of these cars.
They sat in a junkyard that my father built (not the owher, just the builder) back in the mid 1959s. I had been watching tat one for many years along with a couple of it's sisters. GM wanted them SCRAPPED. The yard owner had the temarity to defy GM and preserve the cars.
It's to my understanding that this car was in a junkyard at one time. I'm glad to see it has been rescued and is being restored. Maybe GM (or someone else) could get a new home for the Biscayne and other show cars in a museum.
Yes it was in a junkyard in very sad condition. The car is going to be shown at Pebble Beach for the 100th anniversary so lots of people can see it. The cars do go to museums for extended stays from time to time. So I am sure it will be featured in a museum sometime in the future. Thanks for your interest!
Yes, they belong to the Bortz Auto Collection (my boyfriend). The Biscayne & LaSalle are both "in progress" restorations. Sometimes, it can take a long time to restore cars! I put these videos up because I have been trying to learn how to use the video camera and put them on You Tube for fun to show friends but they get more viewers then I thought they would - but that is OK!
I see, that's interesting! Y'all have done a great job, and us car nuts can't thank you enough! These showcars are not only an important part of GM history, but American history as well.
Thank you for your kind words! It has been a very long process. It will be featured at Pebble Beach for the 100th Anniversary of General Motors along with four other Motorama concept cars from the Bortz Auto Collection.
You're welcome. How are you associated with the show cars under your profile (I see a '53 Parisenne too)? You own them? I don't mean to get too personal!! Is the Biscayne going to stay "as is" or will it be painted at a later time?

This 1955 Chevy Biscayne and three other cars were all part of the 'Warhoops Find' in 1988/89.
We are currently restoring the 1955 LaSalle Roadster that was also part of that find.
