Obviously you are only comfortable with EADGBE tuning on a guitar. Ever heard of anything different, say, slack-key tuning from Hawaii, for example? There are literally hundreds of ways to tune a stringed instrument. Too bad you can't hear what the rest of us are hearing.

Also, as a full time guitarist in LA the past 30 years, friends & I have coached actors to mime guitar, & that's usually always what it is in any movie.

My earlier post sure was jaded :-) After spending 30 years as a full time guitarist in Hollywood, seeing numerous actors coached to make it look like them playing in movies, then JD on screen not fingering the parts properly, & doing 4 other things alien to the soundtrack: playing a completely different category of guitar (steel bodied resonator) using finger picks, capo & slide, that scream blues/rock, not Django, I assumed it was the same old Bs. Sorry :)

Unforunately no. According to the film's soundtrack, Rachel Portman played this, though I'm not sure if she wrote it. She did compose the whole score for the film though.

Unforunately no. According to the film's soundtrack, Rachel Portman played this, though I'm not sure if she wrote it. She did compose the whole score for the film though.

this is Caravan a jazz standard composed by Juan Tizol and made famous by Duke Ellington, Rachel Portman didn't write this one, or Minor Swing for that matter (Django Reinhardt wrote that), and Johnny didn't play either one. It is a beautiful cover though as is Minor Swing...

if i remember the special features on the dvd correctly, Johnny said that he actually wrote that bit of music . i dont think it made onto the soundrack because it is short. that didnt help .......sorry

I think he played Minor Swing on guitar but he didn't write it - Django Reinhardt did. It's in another of Depp's films though - Arizona Dream.

@xemzysparrax Fuck wrong. The original is Djang Reinhardt. Although the song in this interpretation is awesome too and gives a very good voice to the oroginals, the real one will always be Django. Both Minor swing both Caravan....

I don't think it's so difficult to play it. There are two guitars, one is playing the melody und one the accompaniment. It sounds very nice, but it's not amazing.
