I love and respect Gatemouth. I got to meet him in a small venue in the 80's.
He said, "It's all in the book!" In reading an article about his headstone, his brother mentions that Gate said that alot!" Made me smile all over again :)
I always loved Gatemouth on the fiddle. One summer, about 1978 or 79 Gate was playing afternoons in the Cowboy Bar in Jackson, Wyoming. All you needed to do was buy a beer to hang out all fternoon and listen to him. He played fantastic blues and western music on the fiddle. I miss him.
if you hear the song on your computer then you can record this signal from your speaker output with a tapedeck or whatever you record stuff with, i record stuff from youtube with my soundcard( record what you hear), but if your soundcard doesnt have this then you have to use the speaker signal, good luck
@portableversion its pretty basic really, just plug a mini jack cable into the headphone socket on your computer and plug the other end into whatever your going to record it with (soundcard or similar, also macs have 'microphone in' sockets so you can use that). Hope that helps.
Gatemouth is such a complete musician with so much personal expression - I simply love the former sheriff's playing! Watch the "Ohne Filter in Concert" DVD! Funky groovy ass kicking violin and guitar!
What great touch and what depth. True Gatemouth style. Great Performer. Louisiana Born...Texas Raised. The best of blues...one of the first artist to use the capo. Thanks for sharing this video. Gatemouth a class act on and off stage. Port Arthur, TX Loves you man. RIP
I remember one night in San Marcos tx, an older couple came in and we got to talking. They had driven by and turned around because they had seen the marqee. She told me she had never been in a road house before in her life but she just had to see Gatemouth as she had seen him on Austin City Limits and enjoyed his music so much. Gate played this that night and they danced.
Thanks for the gate video harpsucker, I have seen gatemouth many times(since the 70s) I cried when I heard of his death. band brat, your father has brought joy to so many people!
I respect Gatemouth after hearing this, i like this a lot. I read some stuff he said about BB King, saying he "carries on like some old preacher", and I thought he had balls, because until today nobody critizes him appropriately.
Are you Gates daughter?? If so your Dad was truly an American treasure--I saw him live twice-Once in Md. and once about a year before he passed in Harrisburg Pa. He defied categorization and his style and ability were just simply unique---i'm sure he's leading the band up there!!!
That song was originally called "Gate's Tune." It was played on the guitar. My Dad rearranged it and named it after me when I was born. He use to play it like a lullaby when i cried. I just stumbled across this video a few months ago. It's like he's still hear and no mater how many times he dedicated it to me, I still cry. Harpsucker, you rule!- Legends Never Die-
i think thats a rumour, they all had long guitar cables back then and did a whole lotta tricks on and off stage, today they use wireless systems, but thats not the same, nobody cares anymore
Until 1800 the banjo remained essentially a black instrument, although at times there was considerable interaction between whites and blacks in enjoying music and dance—whites usually participating as observers. What brought the instrument to the attention of the nation, however, was a grotesque representation of black culture by white performers in minstrel shows.
So lovely! Thank you!
