Great movie, but mostly fictional. Especially that the Celtic Picts help the Romans.. In the movie Centurion you see what the Picts really thaught of the Romans. If you like this movie, you might want to check out that one too. The Picts probably would rather help the Saxons get rid of the Romans than the other way around like you see in this movie. In fact Picts and Saxons fought together against the Norman invasion.. I would like to see a movie about THAT war!

By the time of the norman invasion, the picts had merged with the gaels or scots and were speaking gaelic and had become assimilatted.

@datiswatikjezeg um ambrosius king of the celts was a roman who united the two remaining folks against saxon invasion when the western roman empire left britain, so in the end, the romans did work with the celts. you have to note that both civilizations intermingled and the romans intermarried with the tribes. centurion was kind of stupid. a roman legion can not be slaughtered by celts that easily. in truth it took a LOT of celtic tribes to kill that legion. a movie on 1066 would be great!!!!!!!

Britain was populated by the Brythonic Celtic people....the last of these true British can still be found in the western lands of Wales and Kernew {cornwall} . They were driven back to thier western strongholds by the invading Germanic tribes...Angles .Saxons ,Jutes ect...,todays English who named the lands they occupied England. King Arthur existed when Celtic culture reigned supreme in Europe. Following the laws of nature Celtics degenerated and British Isles were overrun by barbarians. It was the Romans who brought light back to the Celtic lands. In France even the old Gaelic language had to be replaced to revive civilisation. French is nothing but nasalised Latin. Eventually Rome also declined into dark ages but the Romans had written history and thus Cesar's historicity is not questioned as much as King Arthur's.

Shame that this is probably the only historical retelling of the Arthur legend we'll get, and features the estimable Clive Owen, aka today's Sean Connery, and beautiful music. It's caught between people who wanted to see Arthur fighting dragons and claim it's "not accurate", vs. people who know enough that Badon is not at Hadrian's wall and Arthur defended Wales not Scotland.

The wikipedia link explains who Arthur probably was, and this movie was based on a concrete (if obscure) hypothesis that Arthur was commander of a Sarmatian legion. More likely, he was either Riothamus (who is said to be buried on Glastonbury Tor, which used to be surrounded by a lake where swords were sacrificed to the water goddess) or a war leader; and Merlin was a historical druid/prophet in the Welsh/Briton kingdom of Dal Rialta which survived the Saxon invasion and converted to Xtianity.
