Well...This is really one of the basic skills of Algebra. Sometimes thinking with your brain is far more helpful than depending on a teacher, or criticizing.
It makes sense to those whom have studied it before, and no explanation of mathematical concepts were given, only explanation on how to solve the probelm, so it won;t be too much help to beginers.
I've never does this backwards I usually FOIL from the last line to the first..but what he did in the second line to get to the 3rd was just just use the (a-5) and used it as his first on the 3rd line and what was left was (a-4b) for the second.
@emotionalpunkboy and @TiminPheoenix - You're both acting like retards to one another, you're insulting someone over the internet, stop being little nerds and stop argueing over a bit of money for a bit of learning... Jees!
I recommend this excellent Math channel: ( Mathmatchpoint ) to everyone who wants to learn and understand Math better. He is going to teach you Math the EASY WAY, from the basic to the advanced topics. The great thing is that his videos are categorized within playlists. It is easy to know which video to watch next. This was the least I could do for him (let people know about his videos). Thanks to him, I got 97% on my Math test.
No offense, but this is basic maths .. It's nothing more or less than factoring something; I'm Romanian and I've done this thing first in 4th grade I believe ..
I am struggling with algebra so i went to their website to watch more lessons but then you have to pay ... 99 $ for a month? HELL NO! They are just making money with their shitty lessons that aren't explained well.
@emotionalpunkboy Man, do you deserve your screen name. The whining "education should be free" says so much about you. You don't have to take these lessons. There are other resources. Perhaps if you had paid attention during your taxpayer public supported education, you would understand these basic truths. But we see that didn't happen.
I am on honrors, I am good at math but algebra, my teacher didn't really go deep with algebra. I get alot of problems that require algebra in honors now. So that's why I searched for any video algebra lessons. I found this went to their website , but it is 99 $s? I just wanted to fkin learn but they are charging money... IT pisses me off, but I am still glad that I found a different site with swf explaining algebra.
Don't say shit unless if you know and understand everything.
@emotionalpunkboy I'll say what I want to, especially that you are a fucking idiot complaining about a company that OFFERS you the chance to buy something that might help you. You of course don't have to buy it, but what sort of moron, who doesn't understand a thing about the economy, whines about something not being free?
Poor baby, I guess you are used to mommy and daddy giving you everything and expect the same for the rest of your life. You will make a fine little leftist.
Yes a company that offers me something that helps me for 99 bucks, I just think that it's too expensive, I have seearched and found a FREE and WAY BETTER video algebra lessons. It's just a ripoff, thats all I can say.
I don't even live with my parents, I don't get everything I want, just wanted to learn without paying.
@emotionalpunkboy Claiming they charge too much is a big difference than claiming something should be free. It's like saying a bottle of water is overpriced versus saying that a company shouldn't be allowed to charge for or people pay for that service if they desire.
It's simply about giving choices to the consumer, ones they can accept or go forth and find other resources, many of them free (like a lot of info on the net).

Hello. I am currently studying Japanese Mathematics, we call MATH I, I am sorry we don't call like Algebra I and II or Geometry. The one question from my worksheet book show a question.
- a can not be higher number than 6-2square2, and a is also the highest integer. When you put b=6-2square2 - a, then what is the value of a?
This website lacks a few key subjects (Dividing Polynomials, and Radical Exponents). You're better off searching the web for FREE algebra help. Don't waste your money!

@wondergirlsy i guess because if you multiply (a - 5) (a - 4b) you will get a^2-5a -4ba + 20b.. not sure because he probably had to go to the bathroom so he didnt explain
It took me a sec to figure out why, but for all those wondering. Both a and -4b were already multiplied by a-5 so he combined the two by factoring it out.
@uThink1mSexC2 Sure it does :). You're breaking the formula in half, then in the first half you extract a to get a(a-5). a*a = a^2. a * -5 = -5a. The second half you're also taking out (a-5). You get -4b(a-5). Then you use the commutative property to change the order of the nomials (like terms), to get (a-5). You extract (a-5) the same way you took out a from the first term, leaving you with (-4b). So this leaves you with (a-5)(a-4b). Multiply it back out to see how it works. Or msg me if u want
okay so i have a test on tuesday so please i'd really love it if someone could tell me what to do when you factor over a set of integers or factor over a set of complex numbers or reals or anything else...HELP please!!!
mmmm,,,,I learned this years ago,,and it makes sense to me cause I kinda remember how to do it,,but I totally agree with xKyble,,,the last part should be better explained,,, :)
@xKyble The last part = commutative property, I hope that helps. Since you're multiplying, you can change the order of the nomials, simplifying the formula.
All of you people are some stupid lazy fucks. Pay attention, grow a brain, or get off the algebra and go back to elementary school math. Pussy niggas

how is the compass test for math 9 6?
angelsmellsdeath 2 years ago
because , you have to factorice it, and 4 is in 20, 5 times so and 4 is in 4 one time so:
-4b(1a-5) = -4x(1a)b and -4b(5) so = -4ab+20b
hareket44 2 years ago
Why is there only one (a - 5) at the end?
hoxymoron 2 years ago
the a-5 is factored agains, so you only get a-5 once
