  • What's the HP and tq

  • sounds sweet!!

  • nice!

  • Only 3 headers on each side?

  • whats with the 3 header pipes coming out with 4 clyinders? I know its part of the design but wouldn't the exhaust flow better with a designated pipes for each clylinder?

  • @BMAN294 The intake and exhaust valves on these engines are on the upper side of the cylinder, The exhaust goes between the cylinders where other engine types have water, only three spaces between four cylinders. I have a couple V-12 Lincolns, they have four exhaust ports per bank of six cylinders.

  • Runs good, but pretty tame.

  • I had a Ford with this engine when I was a kid. Pretty powerful and, properly tuned, smooth as cream. Ford transmissions were rough, however, especially those made before 1950. The one Ford I had was old and prone to vapor lock...and at the worst possible time like when I had plans for my girlfriend in the back seat.

  • where did you get your exhaust from

  • It really pisses me off when people put small block chevys in these older hotrods.

  • sounds great

  • Yes, the two center cylinders exhaust goes thru the one center outlet.

  • @tcountry1926 Thanks you. I was about to ask a stupid question.

  • Interesting engine setup. Never took the time to look at a flathead that long. Do the exhaust valves for the 2 center cylinders dump into the same pipe?

  • Its a mild cam, but the idle is throaty, different than stock, and really comes on strong in the mid-range, compared to a stock cam.

  • It can't be a very radical cam... it idles too smooth...

  • Sounds sooooo SWEET!!!!!

  • Im not a huge Ford fan but i love vintage power! This sexy soundin' monster almost orgasmic.

  • No, I have never run any of my engines on a dyno, but have read a number of articles on various dyno tests of flathead V8's.

  • No, I have never run any of my engines on a dyno, but have read a number of articles on various dyno tests of flathead V8's.

  • did you dyno the emgine

  • did you build the frame yourself?? if so what are the lengths ??

  • Yes, I build all my engine stands. I don't have exact length with out measuring it, but just measured the engine so front mounts fit and two tabs to bolt at lower two holes in bellhousing. For 1937 and later engines the front mount width is 20". The 1932-36 engines the width is

    19" .

  • @tcountry1926

ok thanks heaps. just wondering because i have an ancient flathead that needs some TLC and i want to build a stand for it.

  • so i go to these car shows with 32 fords and 36 fords and they have gm motors in them...what traitors!!

  • @dmellow45 I agree... when I look under the hood of an old car and there is not an A) original motor, B) 'period' replacement to ratrod it, or C) a cummins turbo diesel, I am very disappointed..

  • @dmellow45 Amen, Bro. How would those guys like it if we put a 351 Windsor into a Godamn '57 Shitrolay BelAir or a '58 Wimpala? They'd probably go apeshit crazy! Too damn bas, it would serve them right.

  • Oh that engine sounds amazing

  • Thats right kids. Offenhauser was one of the premier makers of flathead parts. Heads and intake manifolds were some of the parts they made. They also made parts for other engine makes, but best remembered for flatty parts.

  • offenhauser flathead?

  • that what the heads say........

  • That is the sound of perfection.

  • thats sweet music to me ears!

  • look at that fuel system

  • NO, we dont want GAY ASS MUSIC COVERING UP THE LOVELY ENGINE SOUND!!!

  • the engine is music to my ears

  • What a wonderfull sound ! Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi,

check out the chopper he built. It is under ford flathead chopper. I could not get it to post as a video responce

  • Sounds like theres plenty of power.

What clay smith cam model is in it ?

  • Its marked 5 T 260 I would think it is 260 degrees of duration. Compared to an Isky Max -1 ( 3/4 race) I've used in several engines, it seems a bit stronger. The idle is throatier and it comes on very strong when you get on the throttle. I bought the cam from an older fellow that said he had it in a strong flathead in the mid fifties-- he said the hottest thing in the north end of Seattle then! Thanks for your interest.

  • Gee tcountry, thats a "real" Clay Smith cam on your engine !!!

Im between a C Smith 272-2 or an Isky 400 jr for my 8BA.

I know I have more work ahead but what Im really concerned about is I want the thing to be very streetable.

    Any thoughts ?

    Thanks for answering !!

  • I don't know about the C Smith 272-2, but Isky 400 jr has a loapy idle but still very streetable ( full race). I've installed a lot of Isky Max-1 cams ( 3/4 race) and they have a good idle ( throatier than stock ) and they come on strong in mid range- very streetable. and would work good with an auto trans also. An Isky 88 is a mild full race, but very streetable with good idle also. I personally like a bit of a loap at idle and a strong mid range for street driving with a stick.
