IT's exciting to see a experiment that's been in the works for over a decade finally start up. Here's hoping some dark matter comes out of the violent reactions they're starting out there!
Thanks for the comment, Clifford. I'm personally excited by the possibility of clinching proof of the Higgs boson (which CERN almost found several years ago with a smaller collider), which would not only complete the standard model, but give proof of concept for supersymmetry, therefore giving much weight to string theory!
America could have had a similar machine to the LHC quite some time ago called the SSC. Oh well. the fundies would probably have stormed the tunnels and hung the physicists anyway.

Actually, first this thing broke down, and a week later, the Hubble telescope's command module broke. Maybe it wasn't such a great time for science
