Better breathing yet it still makes less power than all the other 450Fs. Lighter frame yet it still weighs more than last years and more than all the other 450s. A smaller lighter piston for less reliability. It is exactly what they said, backwards.
@TheOfficialKC YU CAN SUCK MY DICK!! BACK OFF BITCH JUST BE BECAUSE YU HAVE A SHITTY KAWASAKI AND YU WOULD RATHER HAVE A YZ DOESNT MEAN YU CAN DIS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK OFF
@milanplachy First off I don't own a Kawasaki. I have a 1997 Honda XR250 and a 2000 KTM 380SX. This 2010 YZF450 is a pile of unreliable crap that still isn't faster than my 2000 KTM 380SX. 10 years newer, 70cc larger and still slower than my 2-stroke. Not to mention my 380SX will outlast this 10x over. So will my XR250.
@TheOfficialKC ok of course a 380 2 stroke will beat a 450 because the four-stroke will always be a bit slower because it takes four strokes for the combustion to take place while a two stroke takes only 2. And Yamaha is known for the reliability of there bikes. The new engine of the 2010 will probably outlast other bikes because of the offset crankshaft which keep the piston for rubbing against the cylinder wall.
@milanplachy 1. My 380 is 10 years old and is down 70cc and is still lighter and makes more power. 2. A Yamaha 450F has a recommended rebuild after 15-30 hours depending on your riding style. Any 2-stroke will last triple that. 4. The offset crankshaft is for improved torque by having a straight downward stroke. There is no keeping the piston and cylinder from rubbing. The only thing keeping the piston in its path is it sliding on the cylinder walls.
@TheOfficialKC Ok ummmm you obviously dont know anything about bikes four strokes last longer because of the advantage of having valves. The advantage two strokes have is the ability to be upside down and they can produce more power because it uses two strokes for combustion instead of four. two stokes are less efficient and use more gas because some escapes during the exhaust stroke which is why two stokes are wet at the end of the pipe.
@milanplachy You obviously know nothing. Valves are a factor that REDUCES life span. Often it is the valves that break and destroy the engine. A YZF450 has a life span of 15-30 hours. A 250 2-stroke has a life span of 50-100 hours.
A DI 2-stroke is more efficient than a 4-stroke.
But the point is this 2010 YZF450 is 10 years newer than my 380, 70cc's larger, about $3,000 more new, and it is still heavier and less powerful AND less reliable.
@TheOfficialKC watch yamaha yz450f official video 2 it will show that the piston rubs slightly against the cylinder wall during peak output without the offset crankshaft
@milanplachy The only thing keeping a piston going up and down in that path is the cylinder walls. There is constant rub. Any rub decreased by a straight shot down by the offset crank will create much higher rub on the up stroke.
@milanplachy You mean I am just making YOU look stupid. Sorry I actually know what I am talking about and you don't. And that is how these big companys can sell shit to people. People like you are retarded have no idea how an engine works and fall for their bullshit ads.
@TheOfficialKC if you think 4 strokes dont last long go home yur an idiot everybody knows four strokes last longer than 2 strokes in most cases. I have a 06 wr450 that i ride everyday since june 2009 dont tell me 2 strokes last longer than four strokes.
@milanplachy Did you not learn anything? A 4-stroke requires a rebuild every 15-30 hours or every 1-2 races. A 2-stroke needs a (top end) rebuild every 60-100 hours, or every season of racing. That is a fact. Ask any mechanic, magazine, racer, etc. All the 4-stroke MX bikes are crap reliability. I have a 1997 Honda XR250 that is bullitproof. I know 4-strokes can be, just not race prepped bikes.
@TheOfficialKC yeah 4 stroke race bikes are crap reliability if you never change the oil clean the air filter or keep the valves in spec but as long as you do those three things the bike will last forever. 2 strokes dont have as good of lubrication as four strokes so you have to change the piston rings more often.
@milanplachy You have to change the piston and rings every 60 hours. That costs $100. You have to do a top end on a 4-stroke every 30 hours. That costs $1000. So in the time I will spend $100 on a 2-stroke you will spend $2000 on a 4-stroke. Every once in a while the 4-stroke may need a complete rebuild. That is about $3000. For the amount of maintenance a race 4-stroke costs I could buy a new 2-stroke.
Go ask any mechanic.
I run my 2t at 60:1 and have no problems. Most run 32:1.
@TheOfficialKC i have rode my wr450 at least 100 hours and have had no problems at all. I ride it on track and trails. i know 2 strokes can last a while too if properly taken care of but most of the time they dont last as long as four strokes. four strokes wont last super long if raced all the time same with a 2 stroke. 2 strokes will break down faster if raced also. That rebuild time you read for the yz450 was probably only if you race pro. your 380's rebuild time is probably if you ride trails
@milanplachy Exactly you ride trails. I have way over 100 hours on my XR250 also. I also have a 380 with many many hours. Never been rebuilt in its life and it is 10 years old. But we are comparing motocross here. It is 15 hours for a pro racer and 30 hours for trail riding. A 2-strokes rebuild time is up to 60 hours motocross racing. And when you rebuild the 2t it costs $500. The 4t costs $3000. 4-strokes have their place in the world, at the moment, and that is trail riding.
@milanplachy oh ya watch yamaha yz450f official video 2 it shows i am right about the piston rubbing slightly against the cylinder wall during peak output
lol i dont keep up much on dirt biking (im all for quad racing) but i do know that over all team suzuki has more champs than the rest (in dirt biking) and over all the goat has more than stewart.
you need to go back and review your supercross and motocross history! the only time RC lost a championship was one year when he was out with a knee injury!!
does the Yamaha have a steering dampiner on it like the crf?
