cont'd... Also I spent an hour with the child joining him while he jumped and sang in front of a mirror... he later went outside to ride his tricycle, I grabbed another little bike and joined him there too. During my time with the little boy, he was happy, during ABA, he just wanted to escape from the room and that table.
You might care about ABA, but the therapy and the methods used or the focus of ABA is total BS! It doesn't mean that the therapyst are mean or not understanding, but the program is designed in such a way that has absolutely NO respect or consideration for accepting or understanding children for who they are!
I am not talking from someone else's perspective. I have known autism and have unfortunately been exposed to ABA as well.
I'm a Behavior Specialist ,I have had been involved in legal procedings that involve the implementation of the Son-rise program. It was determined that a school district ABA program had much more independent reseach to support its findings than the Son-rise program. If the ABA only had one independent study that showed some sort of effect on students that would be more than the Son-rise program has. If this is not correct please point me in direction of the independent research.
As much as I am impressed with the Son Rise program, I am deeply saddened at the way ABA therapists are portrayed in this video. I'm an ABA therapist and I have never used any aversives. I care deeply for the children I work with and have positive relationships with them. I feel that the newer "hybrid" methods of ABA, with more floortime/NET, are more relationship based and more mutually led than the traditional forms. I am very open to your methods, but I was sad to be portrayed like this :(
Well ok you picked out maybe a few bad minutes at one place. I'm sure your therapists can get bored and children not having fun all the time too. Animal training ha!! read on the work that PCDI has done, Robert Koegel and Laura Screibman, teaching multiple cue responsivity. You are over simplifying the field of ABA.. my mind is still open however...on to your next video.....
