  • This was a fantastic approach! Right on the money. It's good to see footage of a 9-rarer footage with their disappearance. Lots of MD-80 stuff but I love the old 9's.

  • Wow this is a really nice video! Thank you do much for sharing.

  • This is Wonderful

  • @joeandpaige wow.....got anger? dad not let you take the car? Calm down kid it aint that big of a deal. They have therapy and medication you can take. Im not layed off.....I retired from Northwest 6 years ago...

    bye bye, discussion over.

  • @joeandpaige you dont understand the question.....go do some research and get back to me.

my first type rating was in a dc-8.....if you drop you idiot child attitude id be glad to help you, but dont waste my time kid.

  • @joeandpaige well that has nothing to with anything.....i was asking about "incomplete flare".....you dont flare a swept wing jet. Do you know why? Ill explain it if you like.

    your apology will be accepted

  • this isnt a pissing contest, lets just talk planes

  • @joeandpaige you ever fly before?

  • @beergut111 37 years was enough and retirement is great but I still miss flying. It is still a great way to make a living and there is still a great future with the airlines in the coming years but I don't miss the hassle of the airports but the flying, I do miss.

  • @joeandpaige Night and wet and your answer is incomplete flare. From a comment like yours, it confirms you don't know what you are talking about.

  • You don't flare a jet, you fly it into the ground and let ground effect cushion the landing.

  • @skudrunner621 lol thats funny.....

  • I would love to become a pilot...but unfortunately there's no job security. :(

  • Ah, the DC-9!:)

  • wow analog dash, so cool,

  • Red over red, you're dead. White over white, you'll fly all night. Red over white, you're just right.

  • Best damn jet in the free world!

  • @joeandpaige haha. very nice. I'm going to start using that.

  • @joeandpaige jigga what?

  • the runway reminds me of chirstmas. :]

  • was this delta airlines? I had a flight with Delta on a DC-9 last month and i SWEAR the voice at 1:31-1:33 sounds like the voice of either the pilot or copilot as he came over the PA. The voice was very unique...

  • @cduluk ....All I will say is that this airline is no longer in operation....

  • @9country northwest

  • @9country Valujet?

  • @9country Probably Northwest if it is no longer in operation

  • @cduluk i can't believe delta still operated dc-9's

  • @loyalqueen yepp, still does! There's a few dozen DC9 flights everyday with Delta. I'm planning on getting on another within the year before they're all gone :( They fly out of Detroit and Atlanta, mostly to the central US cities.

  • Looks like ILS, just due to the slope and how they landed perfectly on the centerline, also the conditions look IFR or very MVFR.

  • I have so much respect for pilots. I wish I could be a pilot, but I don't know what's stopping me.

  • @yuriynyr nothing. Go find an instructor in your town!

  • 1:30 > "Save me, save me from my self" WTF? hehe

  • That's one hell of a simulator, where did you get it?

  • @squirlybmx I'm assuming you're kidding.

  • @grulloc Nope, it looks so real, how can I get one?

  • how does it feel to fly such a big plane??

  • @orika001 It feels like flying a small one. You can hear the "50, 30, 10" calls on landing which gives the pilot an idea about his/her radar height on landing. I can't speak for other pilots but I just check the stick at the "30" call and it always touches down nicely (in an airbus anyway). The great thing about flying these things is that they are just so easy to fly which is a credit to the engineers/test pilots that design and build them. The bigger they are, the easier they are to fly.

  • @Stangelycoloured wow. thanks for the info! :)

  • such a perfict landing...

  • 0:03 Was that peter griffin?!

  • @randomjunky6 why yes it was lol. didnt see that comming

  • UNCLE VASI!!! GET THOSE COWS OFF THE RUNWAY!!!

  • Nice landing, glide slope following and perfectly on centerline. gj

  • A steam jets!

  • @TonyMcGriffles they are talking about the poppy lights on the side of the runway 2 white and 2 red means your right on the money 3 white or 4 means your too high and 3 red or 4 means your too low .

  • nice 35 arrival at MSP

  • The last time I flew in a DC9/MD80 I sat in the very back, just ahead of #2 engine. I never thought I'd say this because I generally love to fly anytime anyplace, but I was almost looking forward to touchdown. She was loud as hell from where I sat, and a woozy ride too.

  • lovely aircraft, great landing!

  • Ive never gotten used to VFR approaches.

  • just perfect

    no words

  • Great ILS

  • porque tanta tembladera, parece que aterrizo en rhines.

  • I remember when a friend and I flew a Reno Air MD-80 from San Diego to Reno Intl,

It was a nice plane to ride in and it was a ROCKET DOWN THE RUNWAY,,,,,,,,,, WOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean this thing made a 737 look sick,

    Much nicer Interior appt's,

And I think better looking overall,

I was in an Airbus 320 once,

    It was nice too,

    tasteful lite blue Interior color,

Not that BLAND LOOKING STUFF I REMEMBER IN BOEING JET'S,

  • where is the airport?

  • cool

  • The Douglas DC-9 is a great airplane. Have flown on them many times and a retired Northwest Airlines DC-9 driver said he never had one bit of trouble from them. An oldie but a goody!

  • ahh yes, reverse thruster

  • Hard to believe Delta Airlines is still flying these, at an average age of 36 years, damn good plane if you ask me

  • thats a beautiful sight

  • I love classic aircraft like this, 737 (1-5), all of McDonnell Douglas, and this new shit from airbus just sucks. Who the hell flies an airliner with a joystick. That's like fsx right there.

  • @Erich64x2 A320 is alright. I only wish it was made in the USA, that's all. Lockheed could have built an A320 type aircraft. That sort of unique advanced design would have been right up Lockheed's alley. Fly by wire WORKs. It's pretty much proven. The cockpit is the best I've sat in. I've taxied them and it's a dream to operate at taxi or at high power settings. Works good, lasts a long time. I like em. A320 is my favorite aircraft to taxi...followed closely by the B757.

  • @JetMechMA but who cares how well it taxis? airplanes are made for flying, not just taxiing around the airport...

  • @snoopyloopy For one, I care how well it taxis since I am only qualified to taxi. But I've flown the simulator too and it flies just like it looks when the real pilots fly it. No surprises during operation in "Normal Law". The training and experience of real pilots is there for when things don't go so normal. That's why they make the big bucks....safety.

  • DC9s suck

  • SCARY AIRCRAFT!!!!

  • hello excellent job r on vaci God speed

  • Ricordando le tante ore di volo passate ,guardando il mondo da una prospettiva diversa

  • Wow great view! Thanks for sharing!

  • 0:50 WOW looks beautiful

  • Last of the simple jets. All automated now, no real hand flying much anymore.

  • actually, there is about the same amount of hand flying. Just more FMC, which is fun.

  • fly the saab 340, thats pretty much vor to vor. tons of fun

  • I would fly anywhere, anytime on a dc-9.

  • @rankin383 DC-9 is a classic airliner! I've flown on it a few times!

  • man i love flying

  • DC-9 is one of the toughest airframes in the sky, built for long life!

  • agree and still flying after more than 43 years old but we must remember the DC 3 too, remarkable piece of aviation considering their age

  • no they dont.

  • yup safety is #1....as long as it dont interfer with schduling.

  • that decellerated quite quickly, it was cool

  • Can I just say that I'm in my 20's and have yet to fly... but listening to all this pilot-talk both in the video and in the comments section makes me realize how passionate they truly are and how safety is their #1 priority.

  • It's nice to read a refreshingly sober response every once-in-awhile.

Yes, safety is priority number 1.

  • you havent seen the FAA yet right? Im 18 and gonna be an A&P , safety is 1 alwayys

  • ABX Air it looks like

  • White Over red youll be home in bed

White over white youll be out of sight

Red over red youll hit your head

  • I like it...the one I learned to fly with was... Red On White, You're All Right White on White, You're High As a Kite Red on Red, You're Dead

  • @9country i learned 3 red 1 white is for cool guys !

  • @9country That's the best one!

  • @9country or White and White you'll fly all night

  • @9country Could you explain this please?

  • @9country i dont get how that works, you mean the 4 lights thing?

  • @Tratiz yes, just left of the runway you can see those 4 lights. They are a visual indication to make sure the plane is on the proper angle to land. If all 4 lights are red, the plane is too low. If only one light is red, the plane is just a little bit too low. If all 4 lights are white, the airplane is too high, if 3 white lights and 1 red light, the plane is a little bit too high. The goal is to have 2 red and 2 white lights.

  • @9country wow i didnt know that! everytime i land on a simulator all of the lights are always white, its just a bad habitof me taking forever to set the flaps, lower the gear, adjust the trim, etc. must be even harder in real life!

  • @9country

is that what they call "PAPI Lights" thing?

  • @brent07 or VASI (Visual Approach Slope Indicator)

  • Comment removed

  • @9country How does those lights works?? its about the angle of view? or the control tower chnges the light?

  • @skaterman337 Yes. If you were standing near them, they would look like boxes. They have lenses on the front, like a projector. There are red filters inside. They are focused in away(and I'm not totally sure about the internal workings) but if you rise above glide slope, you can only see a white light, and if you drop below the slope, you can only see the red light. sooo, it has to do with the angle.

  • @flintp51 Thanks :)

  • @9country -- Actually if only one light is red then the aircraft is a little bit too high (not low), because three lights will be white. The lights are only there to serve as an indication though, they are not intended to be used as the only indication. In light aircraft the angle of aproach is often much steeper than a commercial jet so the lights will not help out much.

  • @9country nice explenation, even a 3 year old kid could understand :D

  • @9country THe cool fact of the day!!!

  • @Tratiz They called PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator)

  • @9country someone learned from martha KING!!!

  • "Red On White, You're All Right White on White, You're High As a Kite Red on Red, You're Dead"

That's just too confusing to me... almost like a riddle you have to solve which would make a bad situation even worse if you would forget which is which. I just think about it this way: being too low is worse than being too high (crash vs missed approach), hence a red light. Then it's pretty obvious that white is the other way around and an even mix of both is on the glide slope.

  • On a second thought, if you are going to make a riddle out of it, it would make more sense to say: The more Red the more Dead, the more White the more Height. The in betweens should be second nature at that point if you ask me.

  • @Jagermeister196 I always heard...

white and white, still in flight.

    red and white, you're alright.

    red and red, you're dead..

  • @Jagermeister196

Haha for Transponder Codes I always use this:

    75, men with a knife

76, we horen niks (Dutch for: we can't hear anything)

    77, ??can't remember :$??

  • @Jagermeister196 White over White, you'll fly all night.

    Red over Red, your dead.

  • @Jagermeister196 i like dis

  • @Jagermeister196 i think of it as red-dead, white-height, and if its both then ur fine

  • @Jagermeister196 hoo yah Navy!

  • this is very innacurate. neither of these aircraft are still in production.

  • at 0:04 it sounds like peter griffin laughing lol

  • Good video Good Landing Good Pilot

  • where was the takeoff and the landing? nice videos btw

  • You should run this through the Deshaker plugin in virtualdub, the vid will come out looking nice and smooth. At the moment it's horribly jerky

  • Never zoom while landing, looks terrible

  • nice landing!

  • Very smooth app and landing, although I don't like the aircraft very much.

  • great landing. what was the airport?

  • Are the more recent DC9s still in service?

  • yes, northwest still owns a bunch of them

  • It's funny they're scapping A320's but DC-9's are still going strong

  • cool

  • lets all share!!!! yayayayay

  • Great synchronization on landing! (Take a look on the PAPI lights on the left! They were always 2 wight and 2 red, thing that shows a smooth and correct final approach). 5 stars from me lads!

  • What airport is this?

  • Scary..

  • Old style flying, thanks for posting.

  • How the lights are put on the runway?

  • They are recessed into the concrete so the planes can run over them.

  • Oh, cool! Thanks for sharing!

  • relax buddy just because you have a big brain and a small dick doesnt mean everyone else does too

  • How can they land just on the centre linee!!! I find it so hard!! XDD

  • there is a radio frequency they tune into a navigation radio that lines something called the "localizer needle" inside the airplane up to the centerline of the runway. As long as they keep that in the center, they can't miss the centerline. The same goes for altitude, the glideslope tells them if they're too high or low.

  • Ohhh... does it have to do with the ILS? Thanks!!

  • sure does :)

  • What you call "localizer needle" is the called CDI (Course Deviation Indicator) the localizer does not have a needle since it is a facility on the ground. But you were close

  • Great job.

  • Uh, in the video you can clearly see the PAPI lights showing two white and two red meaning the plane was spot-on the glide slop. If he were high there would have been three to four white lights. If he were low, three to four red lights.

  • Also, this video isn't taken from a cessna that is 4 feet off the ground, it's taken about 20 feet above the landing gear.

  • ya sure

  • is it hard to fly airplanes?

  • Ummm... Isn't it obvious? Of course it is. Only for beginners...

  • I'm a pilot, and i don't mean to brag, but in the right conditions, it's so damn easy. It's a skill, but really easy.

  • Have you ever shot an instrument approach in IFR conditions down to mins. On a clear VFR day it's easy, IFR stuff is a little more challenging.

  • Yes, I have. Isn't that what i said? "in the right conditions"-VFR. IFR-eh, can sometimes kick your mind around. But other than that you can agree that it's easy sometimes, right?

  • IFR down to mins is pretty simple, just follow the vectors and keep the needles crossed. One of the hardest things to do in transport category airplanes is the visual approach.

  • @Sccratlanta ---IFR IS A LOT HARDER!!!!!

  • a that airport in hong kong ever for pilots with 40 year exp find it hard to land there but airport was closed and forgot its name nine dragons or something

  • The name is Kai Tak.

  • Holy hell, amazing vid whatever the aircraft/landing :).

  • errrrrrr this is yourrrrr uh captain speaking. weeeerrrrreeee uhhh about 2 and a half hours from ourrrrr uhhhh destination. werrrrrreee uhhhhh going to be expirencing some head winds, giggity, and be surrrreeee uhhh to buckle up. thanks for flying with screw you airlines. remember, if you didnt like the flight, then screw you.

  • Captain Glen quagmire! Lol

  • the one and only

  • lolz i just saw taht epeisode

  • Man I love the nine! Its a good old reliable aircraft that is very versitle! I love the basic cockpit it keeps flying sacred!

  • Can someone clue me in on the significance of " 80 knots " call out after landing. I used to hear that when I jumpseated and was curious.

  • at 80kts is when toe braking is normally applied (given plenty of room) and also the thrust reversers are started to stow and have to be in by 60kts

  • @85iceman

Also used in the T/O where the two pilots confirm that both their A/S indicators are showing the same. Pitot Static check. If not this gives them time to abort T/O.

  • I hate DC-9. I always take a flight from Heathrow to Vienna on a DC-9, and I always feel like we're gonna crash.

  • lol- do the wings go up and down drasticly

  • wich happens on every plane in the sky...

you'd be amazed how much a plane fuselage and wings bend during flight/takeoff and landing.

(i study aerospace engineering so i get taught these things :P)

but don't worry, the airplanes are made to handle those kinda things :D

    (airplanes FTW)

  • yea, its terrible. and its for about 2 hours.

  • there's some......thing on the wing. you've.......got to do something.

  • I know the DC-9 Is a classic version of a MD-80 Using the Omega Navigation system, But why do you feel like you're going to crash? Is it because there is no FMS in the cockpit to see the actual flight path ? Because pilots really cant see what runway they are coming to unless they are dead - on with a heading and the navs are beeping. Theyre rather flying blind with a ONS

  • Shut up you gimp

  • gpws on a B717?!

  • 717?

    its a dc9

  • can't see the difference...

  • old gauges

    green panel

classic 3 green lights of the l gear etc etc etc.......

    look for some 717 vids.,..

  • ok,thx!

  • Perfect, right down the centerline...

  • Why do the runway lights seem to dim, before touchdown, @ 1:05?
