  • my fave....

  • Took me quite some years to figure out what a doodlebug was. Makes sense though.

  • ollypopbollocks.. th Teardrop's were always amazing. Remember that

  • pure class....

  • Just remember, The Teardrop became CRAP when Bill Drummond left as manager and Balfe TOOK over................

  • @ollypopsbexcoppa lies, Wilder's amazing

  • Finger on the pin,

    Do you like my grin....

I feel cold when it turns to gold.......

    for you.

  • #mm hidden gems - Julian Cope

  • This version of The Culture Bunker is so good, so good...even better than the album version...the bass on this song is too good for words ;)

  • i love this band. wilder is such a mint album, got a copy of it from some cheep place in cardiff, its shut now, but it had some second album on it, or something, which was a bonus, anyway, lush!

  • Even more spaced out than the LP version. Love it.

  • ha ha fuckin gr8t ....thanx

  • hey, wait, we could make a racket

  • Just like Leila Khaled said...

  • Thanks for this , if you have anymore from this show i't'd be great if you put them on youtube.

An ogwt classic that has stayed in my memory since early 82.

  • My gawd...I'm getting so bloody old...I remember all these TOGW shows!

Read Cope's two novels. Great stuff!

    World shut yer mouth!!!

  • @ChemtrailsEire The Old Grey Whistle Test was a damn good show, and I just know this from watching youtube clips, wasn't alive to watch the real thing sadly...

  • Take me to the moon

It's safe and I want to lie down

    Take me to your heart

There must be a soft spot somewhere...

  • Great face solo as he used to call them - can't believe that I missed this when it was on at the time!

  • love Balfey's keyboard thing on this

  • I love Teardrop Explodes. I love Julian Cope's music. I am 50 and still love this stuff.

  • drugs may have been involved

  • does anyone have this on a mp3 file if so can you sendit me

    cant find it anywhere

  • One question - what the hell is mr balfe doing with his keyboards on this song?! A complete racket. You do feel sorry for him tho...look at the little noise he makes at 2:15, even he realises it's totally bolloks! lol

  • Aye, I noticed the little laugh he made. I always thought he seemed like an arsehole, but then again, I think Julian Cope was probably an prick to be in a band with too. No wonder he plays on his own now. He probably kept Balfe in the band because he was well aquanted with the music scene with his producing credits, and that pushed the band further.

  • Too right, mate ! Like a kid on Christmas morning trying out all the sounds.

  • "..hey face, get into order..I put a gun to your head..face..I'm in complete control..of the face..here we go..." --brilliant!

  • When is this from...what year? Cool.......

  • Thank you for making my day, Please please please please please - do you have 'Log Cabin', or any more vintage Teardrops on Whistle Test ?

  • That bass player is one hell of a slapper!

  • Truly amazing. Julian Cope is a living legend, a beautifully-voiced and inspired composer of melodies, a sort of John Lennon mixed with Jim Morrison and Scott Walker.

The break here starting at around 4:30 is magical, with great keyboards by Dave Balfe, and powerfully psychedelic.

    A YouTube gem.

  • Hey, i didn't know you were a fan of Julian's. Fancy meeting you here!

It has been a long time since i heard from you, and hope all is well, xensboy.

(I really need to check out your videos too)

And indeed, this is a gem!

  • where is the BBC recording?

    that´s the most grateful song

  • lets ply socky .... norris green ... liverpool

  • this gig performed on the whistle test was fantastic i watched it on my vcr. all the songs from wilder it was fantastic and the original line up .thanks thanks thanks for posting how good they were .kevin speakin poor old jools he took to callin himself kevin at one bit.

  • Kevin speaking .- Kevin Stapleton was the name, wasn´t it? Always good to see the Teardrop Explodes here. Great Band, shitty look, and what a prick the keyboard player is. He later founded Food records, and Blur being on them used to wind Balfe up while recording with endless Julian Cope references during rehearsals which always worked because he hated Cope so much.

  • Kevin stapleton is an inspired character!

His "face solo" never fails to amuse me whenever i watch this.

  • Face solo - great. Off itself that face was.

  • Insane then . Insane now !

    What a bloke !!

  • GOOD VIDEO JIMMY

  • Thanks for posting this - you've just made me join YouTube so that I could say cheers.

Great band and a great version of Culture Bunker.

  • GOD, that was quick!

Thanks a million, and... keep 'em coming!
