i love this band. wilder is such a mint album, got a copy of it from some cheep place in cardiff, its shut now, but it had some second album on it, or something, which was a bonus, anyway, lush!
@ChemtrailsEire The Old Grey Whistle Test was a damn good show, and I just know this from watching youtube clips, wasn't alive to watch the real thing sadly...
One question - what the hell is mr balfe doing with his keyboards on this song?! A complete racket. You do feel sorry for him tho...look at the little noise he makes at 2:15, even he realises it's totally bolloks! lol
Aye, I noticed the little laugh he made. I always thought he seemed like an arsehole, but then again, I think Julian Cope was probably an prick to be in a band with too. No wonder he plays on his own now. He probably kept Balfe in the band because he was well aquanted with the music scene with his producing credits, and that pushed the band further.
Truly amazing. Julian Cope is a living legend, a beautifully-voiced and inspired composer of melodies, a sort of John Lennon mixed with Jim Morrison and Scott Walker.
The break here starting at around 4:30 is magical, with great keyboards by Dave Balfe, and powerfully psychedelic.
this gig performed on the whistle test was fantastic i watched it on my vcr. all the songs from wilder it was fantastic and the original line up .thanks thanks thanks for posting how good they were .kevin speakin poor old jools he took to callin himself kevin at one bit.
Kevin speaking .- Kevin Stapleton was the name, wasn´t it? Always good to see the Teardrop Explodes here. Great Band, shitty look, and what a prick the keyboard player is. He later founded Food records, and Blur being on them used to wind Balfe up while recording with endless Julian Cope references during rehearsals which always worked because he hated Cope so much.
