  • Also...what's the blender doing in the living room?

  • I used to have that kind of record player when I was 5 years old.

  • What the heck happened to their hair after the lights came back on?

  • I used to have that kind of record player when I was a kid.

  • 0:53 I like when Bert crabwalks to the blender. :D

  • this is probably the last apology to anyone on sesame street.

  • really mature

  • Love Bert and Ernie

  • the radio is a Emerson & same one where Ernie plays the radio loud & soft Then sticks knob on Bert & does the same lol

  • thought i saw them all, but i guess not. I take it no breakers in this one but the screw in fuizes.

  • LOL..You were the one who had the bright idea to turn on the dumb mixer..Ernie has the best lines...

  • You gotta be careful when you play cards with Ernie... he doesn't shuffle.

  • @DiAnno13

At first I did not notice that, but now that I have watched it again, I see that you are absolutely right! Wow!

  • I just noticed how different Ernie and Bert's home looked in the first season!

  • @doctorwhorox

    I noticed that too!

  • The original Odd Couple.

  • Bert looks & sounds unusually angry in this. He almost has a threatening look about him.

  • I didn't remember seeing this one till '78 or '79, and yet, Ernie's got a little bit of the accent he had on the "Rosie" skit from '69. Guess it must've been from those early E&B productions.

  • ernie and bert were bloody childish in this skit

  • I hadn't seen this skit since I was about eight years old, but I always remembered it vividly. Oddly enough, the thing I remembered best about it was how different their hair looked after the lights came back on.

My theory? The air conditioner was one of the things that went out when the fuse blew, and their hair is all plastered down like that from the heat and humidity.

    Yep, I'm a dork.

  • @mdumas43073

I think you have a very rational sensible mind! Glad to have met you!

  • damn i love when Bert starts dancing it cracks me up everytime i see it xD

  • The apartment doesn't look big enough for that, and Bert is trying to annoy Ernie anyway.

  • nostalgic!

  • It confuses people when I go to the library or music store and say, "I'm looking for a record", or "You're holding a record for me," when what I mean is a CD, DVD, videocassette or audiocassette! Or when I go to an electronics store and say "I'm looking for a record player",and i mean a CD player, DVD player, audiocassette or videocassette player or MP3 player(Although actually I don't have one of those-not yet at least!)Then I explain-, phonograph records, CDs, DVDs,-they're ALL records to me!

  • I used to get into verbal battles all the time with my then-teenage daughters over that, calling a CD a record, and of course they'd snap back, It's not a record, it's a C-D!

But what's the difference--they're both round, have a hole in the middle, and play music.

The only difference is that LPs get stuck like this-- like this-- like this like this, and CDs get stuck like thisthisthisthisthis :D

  • True. But at least when phonograph records get stuck or when they skip a groove, you can fix them with just pressure on the tone arm. You can't do that with CDs. And if a phonograph record gets cracked or chipped it's still playable-just straighten out the crack,or don't put the tone arm on the song or songs were the chip is. If a CD gets cracked or chipped it's ruined. I use CDs, but I prefer phonograph records or audio cassettes, because I think they're better overall.

  • Amen brother! Sometimes I can thump or whack a stuck CD player but it just isn't as good. There's still something more accessible about the ol' phonograph, and as for cassettes, ever trying mixing songs on a CD burner? There's a lot to be said for the old stuff.

How do you straighten out a crack in a LP? I tried to fix a warped one once, stuck in the oven on a cookie sheet... you can guess the results.

  • It depends on how bad the crack is. If it's not very long you can just snap the upper part of the record and the lower part back together. The record will usually hold itself together if irt's a small crack. If the crack is longer, but straight (not jagged) you hold the dides together and put just a tiny piece of tape on the record's edge where the crack is-just a tiny piece so it doesn't cover the grooves of the first song. Of course, there's no way to completely fix a crack, unless you

  • In the end, it doesn't hurt to make a recording of the LP onto tape or CD.

Never gonna get rid of my old wax records!

  • You have wax ones? Cool! Sorry I didn't finish my last post-I was going to say that the only way to completely repair a cracked record is to melt it down and record it all over again! Ha! Ha! But seriously, I prefer audiocassettes and LPs to CDs and MP3s anyday! I take my audiocassettes to work every day and listen to them.

  • I remember this sketch. I think there's a couple of lessons here about cooperation, the consequences of letting your arguements get out of hand, and our increasing dependence on electricity, and the possible cosequeneces. Notice how at the end they decide on playing a game of cards, a non-electronic game, even though the power's back on? As for the terminology, I still refer to recordings of any kind as "records" whether they're vinyl disks, CDs, DVDs, videocassettes, audiocassettes, photos, etc.

  • Oh wow! I've always heard of this sketch but, I've never actually seen it.

  • Has anyone got the episode where maria ernie and bert have a fight over marching and drumming love that one

  • Such old appliances ey?

  • This sketch appears on:

    "Sesame Street" episode 0003 (November 12, 1969)

    "Sesame Street" episode 0183 (January 20, 1971)

  • Might very well be the best example of the first season of Sesame Street. Bert has a "quasi" mullet in this sketch.

  • aw they made up in the end! True friends.

  • Yes indeed, man. And therefore, I love that part.

  • Man, Bert has some great dance moves.

  • Man they used to fight a lot XD

  • Great! I have never seen this. Or if I have it was so long ago I can't remember it.

  • lol!! I loved this one!! :-D

  • Okay, smart guy!

  • And it's all thanks to you for posting this.

  • It's a good thing Bert & Ernie forgave each other for their interruptions, don't you think?

  • That's great!

  • I love the sound when the fuse blows. Totally priceless!!!!

  • Bert (after turning on the mixer): Sure, why not?

    (Sound of fuse shorting out)

Ernie: Umm, because you might blow a fuse or something you big energy waster you!

  • I've been waiting and waiting for this post... I remember laughing so much I had tears in my eyes as a child watching this and the skit where Ernie can't sleep and counts balloons (its on here too - check it out when you get a chance!)... thanks so much for this reminder of a show that brought so much childhood joy!

  • Never noticed Fank's head till now.

  • thanks very much for posting, this is the B & E I've been wanting to see since childhood. Why does Sesame Workshop seem so clueless about what to post on their youtube account?

  • Man, how long has it been since I last saw THIS?!! I remember laughing at the floating eyes as Ernie turned everything off.

And Bert's hair and eyebrows at the end...Yikes!! LOLOLOLOL

  • I think Ernie was watching "The Guns of Navarrone".

  • I've always wondered what Ernie was watching, all you could hear was thuds and booms.

This must have been before Bert found his love of marching band music, or maybe he's just trying to get back at Ernie.

Kind of a somber ending, both of them sorry about the whole thing.

  • Probably watching a western.

  • Brought to you by the number ten.

  • Bert, keep an eye on Ernie.. he didn't shuffle the cards.

  • Thanks for uploading this MarshallGrover. I've forgotten how funny it is!!!

  • I've been wanting to see this for a LONG time!!!! Thanks for the post. Now if someone would only post the complete version of Ernie reciting numbers and then the alphabet and Bert goes nuts at the end.

  • omg it's been years since I last saw this.

When I told my necies and nephews about this they thought it was all made up Thanks for posting this.

  • OMG!! Where did you find this? I have not seen this in years. This is absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for posting this! Classic Ernie and Bert at its finest!

  • This is one of my all-time faves and it's finally in English! Thanks MarshallGrover! I like how a dresser was used for the wall in the apartment. When I used to see this as a kid I noticed how the older skits had garbage cans in the window to simulate their basement apartment.

  • Mine too, man.

  • XD! That tv looks a refridgerator.

  • That's where they keep their TV dinners.

  • LOL! I bet if this were newer, they'd be watching a DVD on TV, and Bert would put on a CD playing rap music, and instead of a radio Ernie would play MP3s of heavy metal on a computer, and instead of a blender it'd be a microwave oven beeping!

And it kinda looks like "The Simpsons" from 1:04 to 1:53 during the blackout!

  • I love it..so classic!

  • Me too.

  • No offense, but why do you feel the need to reply to everyone's comments, just agreeing with them?

  • Comment removed

  • Something like it.

  • Absolutely! I agree!

  • Comment removed

  • That's great!

  • I haven't seen this clip in YEARS! I was about 4 when I last seen this.

  • awesome ! thanks for posting this.now i can remember this when i hear the original audio track.

  • You were extremely lucky to find a classic like this as-is. Five stars!

  • Right you are!

  • Yep. It reminds me of the Simpsons when they do that. It'd be funny if Ernie said, "Hey, if we keep the electricity out, think of the savings in puppetry!" :P

  • When I saw this as a kid, when Ernie said, "The phonograph", I wondered what that was and why didn't he mention the record player. Then I later learned he was talking about the record player.

  • Hey no sweat, I sometimes call record players "phonographs," or even "turntables!"

In my updated version I made up Ernie would refer to the CD player at that part as "the disc player"

  • records..1900-1980

    casettes/tapes..80s

    CDs..90s

    iPod/MP3 player..00s

  • Vinyl Records are BACK, mofo!

  • They never went away.

  • Thank you for the real version!

  • Love that hoedown music on the radio!

  • You have no idea how long it's been since I've seen this skit! Thank you so much for posting! I should get you a gift!

  • I an't stoppin' ya!

  • I can't tell if that's Jim's head or Frank's at 0:53.

This is a really great skit!

  • Nice catch!

  • i think it's Jim's Head.I totally missed that,good eye.

  • What an awsome find. :D

  • Awesome Season 1 skit.

  • Thanks for reposting this with its respective audio, MarshalGrover.

  • HOLY MOLY! Where did you get the audio from?

  • He got the audio from the SS video website since I just saw that on that site last night and I know that hj86 has videos that he ripped from that site too.

  • It's really on SS site!?! I thought they'd never put that up.

  • Interesting. Would you mind telling me what other classic clips were just recently added to that site. I can't seem to get that particular page on my computer.

  • I don't remember much, but there was one where Big Bird was in the Brady Bunch squares rhyming the word "Hooper" (A clip was in the A&E special).

  • Hmm. I don't believe I saw that one. Well, the old classic menu is back up at any rate, so I guess I'll just have to look through it page by page.

  • Now that sounds like a good idea, sir.
