In Deepwater free solo you have no safey at all but climb over water, if you fall, you get wet and maybe a bruse if you hit the water hard. In free solo, you have no safety at all, if you fall, you are dead (if you drop in the first two metres you may not be instantly dead, but then you shouldn't be soloing anyway).
Dude. They are trying a somewhat lateral dyno at the end of the route. It's not easy to position your body perfectly for impact. They aren't even that far off vertical when they enter the water but when you are falling from that distance you are going to get hurt if you don't enter perfectly. Which they do when they control their fall... Don't be dumb.

@ForCurrentUse Its south thailand. you can get a boat out to a place called tonsai or railay bay. From there you have to get another boat from the bay to phoda island or any other nearby dws spots. if you got to a rockshop on tonsai (theres a few) and enquire about deep water soloing, they have a couple of trips a week at about 800 baht, and they will almost always take you to the spot above!
and its even higher than it looks in the video, super fun!

It's probably my most vivid and happy memory, I'd love to go back there and try to climb now.

60 feet up is about the highest you can go. Any higher than that, and your velocity from the fall will make you hit the water so hard you break bones. Or splatter if you are way high up. Surface tension on water makes it harder than concrete if you hit it from great heights.

60 feet up is about the highest you can go. Any higher than that, and your velocity from the fall will make you hit the water so hard you break bones. Or splatter if you are way high up. Surface tension on water makes it harder than concrete if you hit it from great heights.

You're almost right, the World High Diving Federation refulates the height at around 27m for men's cliff diving, which is around 88', though Dana Kunze holds the world record for entering the water at around 172 ft. You're right though, at great heights several precautions must be made to keep you from breaking bones or even sustaining concussions.

i think you can get quick drying chalk bags especially for deep water soloing. not sure how much they cost though!
