If a lot of doctors lived by the hippocrate oath like you do on your teaching well do i have to say how much better we would be!thank you for your generous giving!
Great instructional video, Adam. Very helpful to us beginners.I'm finding that 3' 2 3" 2 backside measure in your 2 bar riff to be a great workingman notation that keeps surfacing- I'm going to get some mileage out of this, like I do your other videos. Great advice on volume, position and the Hippocratic oath! Keep teaching and we'll keep learning, and congrats on your new album- I'll pick it up.
sage advice to all that wail over stuff without thinking where the songs going , as i'm mainly on guitar these days i record the harp to comp and also fill in with the guitar when needed , as you might have already said , it's all about leaving space and keeping the backbeat swinging along not about saying look at my wonderful playing but taking the song and adding the hot sauce drip by drip instead of drizling it on and blowing the roof of your mouth off in one go ! interesting analogy !
i did the same thing with my old band i know when he is singing "he is singing and my spot light shut down for the moment if you know what i mean" it is very hard not to show what you can do but my master would tell me pick you spots and stick them and soon i got it thank for this video --sonny
thks again great lesson wow you and mr satan really out did yourselves this time; BLUES AT ITS BEST, dont forget little walters comping while muddy sings he was one of the best ay this technique
Ever since I started watching your videos something kept nagging at the back of my brain. You looked like someone I had seen before. Given where you live though, I figured that wasn't the case. Now I know I have seen you before. At the Busker's Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
That was a long time ago, and you guys just keep getting better. You have a gift, not only as a harp player, but as a teacher.
Nice lesson, Adam. Since HCH 11, I feel more comfortable tongue blocking. And I appreciate the subtlties of comping. I like your little runs...I look forward to more
Adam this comes just in time..me and my frd(also called adam) is doing some original songs (not exactly blues though)based on guitar and harp. I comp with my harp and i am always wondering how much i should play within the songs... I will post a video response on this and please if you will, as well as other harp players give us some comments! Thanks adam for this great lesson!!
It's funny, I never noticed it, but when I'm singing in my duo I obviously have to play call and response but when my buddy is playing I seem to either copy the melody line or play a harmony. I take pauses, but it's usually the same time as the vocal. I kind of forget all about call and response.

Back in the Game is a a very good CD. I listened to driving from Mobile to Montgomery and back. I especially like 2 tracks...
Broke And Hungry
and a creeper sounding song called Fever. I've been humming it since.
