Listen to the "Gypsy blood" recordings , one has even a few questions answered about that sound and you also can compare the two "Machine gun" versions to understand what it does because I use a POD pedal on the older one.

This is the best cover of Third Stone From the Sun I've heard. The song's guitar part isn't very difficult to play it's just hard to get it to sound like Hendrix's version. That's the case on a lot of his songs like Voodoo Child and Foxy Lady and Machine Gun.
