  • Reminds me of parts of the last movement to Dave Diamond's 4th Symphony. Same kind of feeling. And whoa! I'm not saying anything was borrowed. Both were great, separate, scores. This surely is outstanding music. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Brilliant score, fine recording, bizarre conducting.... the "Main title" that begins it is positively lugubrious.... (compare it to the trailer) but some great color later and some nice pacing.

  • @ffvsartoris What an absolutely stupid comment on your part. For your information, mate, Mr Friedhofer changed the tempi markings before the recording. The conductor followed them to the letter.

  • At 1:06 the three in the airplane going home ends & the scherzo accompanying the flight footage goes on! So it's not matched to the visual. But tis the music that's important.

  • @Glinkaism1 The stills have not been synchronised. Your comments are not relevant.

  • my husband's grandfather wrote this piece and many many others, all which touch our hearts and make us proud. Robin Rule Essman

Oh my goodness! I am in awe of how beautiful the score was for this movie and he was your husband's grandfather? What an amazing talent he had!!!! I purchased this soundtrack from I-tunes and enjoy it everytime I hear it. What joy he has given to millions of people!

  • @Dana888dana before the record came out i taped it off the tv set on an audio cassette I used to ride around in the car and listen to it

  • @spacepatrolman Ha ha that is hilarious! I used to do that too before I-Tunes, Ipods, and the like!

  • @Dana888dana i taped the whole movie of spartacus because there is music that isnt on the record like the beginning at the salt mines and the fantastic voyage was never issued on a record it was rumoured to exist on a test pressing

  • @spacepatrolman What does your comment have to do with 'The Best Years of Our Lives"?

  • @threecalifornians I dont think it was isuued on a record when the movie came out not until the 1980s also on a pre recorded reel to reel tape with a music book

  • @spacepatrolman The LP was released in 1978, followed by the Barclay-Crocker reel-to-reel tape in 1980. What the hell do you mean by a music book?

  • @threecalifornians

He did???? I am truly impressed by his talent!! It is a God-given gift - how proud you must be!!! He made so many people like myself so happy with his works. And many more people to come throughout the years!

  • This is a haunting and beautiful song which inspire feelings of sadness and joy. Certainly it fits the mood of the film. Words escape me in describing the beauty of this piece.

  • @robst999 This is not a song as there are no lyrics.

  • @FifthContinentMusic so here is a lyric I made up I just came home from the war and there is no job for me i fought for all to be free andy rooney walter cronkite and me

  • @spacepatrolman The lyrics have nothing to do with the film. You are banned.

  • @robst999

Well said & well put, my friend! The score fits the film's story PERFECTLY! Wistful and sad...but yet patriotic & heroic...and filled with hope for the future! THANKS for your articulate & intelligent post !!! CHEERS, mate! :)

  • Just about the most inspired cue in a Hollywood film that I can remember.

  • Brilliant score if ever there was one.

  • Possibly the greatest film score of all time. If this particular track does not impress you then I am afraid nothing much will.

  • @jslasher1

Couldn't have put it better than that myself! A priceless masterpiece of a score! Nothing like it!
