Has anyone else noticed how a few of the Balloon Kid music was reused in the Game Boy Camera? And also the general 'sound' of the Game Boy Camera music is very similar?
It's very difficult to find this game, I keep searching every day for it on auction but it never comes up. I was under the impression that it was not only distributed as a Nintendo Power cartridge download but also commercially (as Wikipedia seems to suggest, though unsourced) but now I'm unsure. I'd love to play the upgraded version even though I already have Balloon Kid.
Alice should have been at least a trophy in SSBB, man the trophies in SSBB were so lackluster. Melee's were a fantastic assortment. Well mixed and varied.
No offense, but I guess most SSB fans only want well-known characters (including some secondary ones), due to their brains not letting them easily gain interest in lesser-known ones, whether they are very good or not.
Despite the Game Boy being Nintendo's best-selling game system, Balloon Kid/Balloon Fight GB, along with most other Game Boy games, became overshadowed by the popularity of home console gaming, due to their superior potentials.
@1983parrothead Actually, I found that hand held games were given much more respect in the 80's and 90's until consoles went to 3D, and only with the DS and PSP have made a comeback as being taken "seriously" in the wider gaming universe in terms of prestige.
I also thing the SSB games should celebrate Nintnedo history, including the obscure, not just cater to well known games and characters.
One day, Jim filled all his balloons and tied them together to make a beautiful balloon rainbow across the sky. "What a great idea this was, Jim," said Alice, "but please be careful!". Just then, a strong wind blew and Jim was carried away into the sky. "Oh, no! This is terrible, I must save Jim!", thought Alice. Meanwhile, Jim, who was a very clever boy, thought, "I wonder how Alice will find me.........Wait! I've got an idea. I'll leave a trail of balloons for Alice to follow!".
Balloon fight was better,it had no Loony Toon graphics, and best music,it made me WANT to get game over,Banjo Kazooie did that too but for different reasons ;D
The original Balloon Fight has way too many ports, but Balloon Kid (a.k.a. Balloon Fight GB in Japan) it doesn't have that many remakes. The original Balloon Fight can be played on one of Nintendo's VS. series arcades, the NES, e-Reader, Game Boy Advance, Animal Crossing for GCN, the Virtual Console and even some microgame versions of it in the WarioWare series.
Well, I'm only counting titles with a cartridge, which would be somewhat more expensive if you were buying a game and you ended up buying the same game you had before.
I like this adventure remake, make the Balloon Fight some diferent, but i love the pencilvania music theme, all is more completed, like a total world, i can ear it think it like a orquest, remember me the overworld theme of Wind Waker.
Balloon Fight GB is better than Balloon Kid, because Balloon Fight GB allows you to select any stage you want, while Balloon Kid always starts at the first stage.
I still play the first Balloon Kid for the Gameboy. Brilliant game with great music, but would have been even better if it had a save feature, like the sequel.
nah, this game was in the US. I remember playing this game on my gameboy. Wow... seriously, I haven't heard the game music since I was like... in the first grade. Crazy flash backs.
Balloon Kid is the non-colored version, which was released only in North America and perhaps Europe. The colored version (Balloon Fight GB) was only released in Japan for unknown reasons.
You're calling old games dull, ha there's nothing dull about the games of yesteryear, they have a charm all their own. Also some of us grew up on these older games, so we appreciate them more than someone who didn't grow up during said era (I'm guessing you're fairly young, but I've seen even young people that like old games). Wait till today's games age a bit and someone says the same to you, let's see how you react.
This game was overlooked, because most original Game Boy titles were also overlooked, including Mole Mania, Solar Striker, the Rockman World/MegaMan GB series, Burgertime Deluxe, Soloman's Club, and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. During the original Game Boy's life, people were more interested in home console games than handheld games.
couldn't agree more. This game was my life at 10 years of age, it was totally unique in a way games today aren't. the cutesy world in it with the pencil, the concept of alice flying, the little flame guys and the sound of their footsteps, the Music, oh fuck me, the music was so sweet. Gotta throw it down for Wakka Wakka Wolf too.
Why play such a new game? It's incredibly dull and you get bored of that stuff easily. You're just going around arenas and shooting guys with oversized guns for heaven's sake.

This was the third game I ever had for Gameboy back in the day, I could never beat the level with the penguin boss,
finally, after not playing Balloon Kid for 20 years I beat this lil bastard.......my internal 7 year old self is very proud.

It wasn't OUR choice what was used for a trophy, it was Sakurai's!

Actually, Alice and her younger brother, Jim, was spending endless days filling the skies with their balloons.

Balloon Fight GB isn't a sequel, it's actually the remake.
1983parrothead 4 years ago
does it have a save/password feature?
appleslime 4 years ago
It has a save feature, which is also known as battery-backed memory. It also has stage selection.

Thanks.

BTW, it's my first time seeing this color version, is there anything new besides that map feature?

Super Game Boy features and battery-backed memory for saving progress.

the black and white version was also released in europe.
it made it possible for me to discover this gem of a game. :)
and again you skip the bonus stage, i wonder why
IsilionNELE 4 years ago
That was my second time playing it. On my first time playing this game, I ignored the giant Game Boy, because I still thought you can't enter it.

if you want to see what the bonus level looks like check out GameboyReviewer's video of the game and scroll to 2.40
:)

I know what it looks like, because I played and beat Balloon Fight GB. The bonus levels are based on the original Balloon Fight's bonus levels.

We got the black and white version back in 1990. This one you saw is the colored version, which was released ten years later only in Japan.
