I thought McCain was there to help the legislation pass. What happened to country first? I will never trust a republican again. From now on I am officially a socially conservative democrat.
It has always implied for me that: "Hey, 99% of the time it's good and correct to be totally partisan and screw trying to do what's best for country." .. And then, once in a blue moon when it makes for GOOD MARKETING PR, one side underlines the fact that "this is a bi-partisan measure"... as though we should applaud their cooperation.
F*CK, Every goddamn session of Congress should be bi-partisan. That's what we have a COngress for, this representative democracy.
(2) When you go to Washington for your state, you are supposed to represent your entire district or state -- not simply those who voted for you and your party.
This is yet another reason why I think American Government, in its current configuration with no checks-and-balances, and with a Unitary Executive that blatantly disregards the US COnstitution and Rule of Law, and with timid Opposition Parties placating so they can get their people into higher office themselves, is fundamentally broken.
