I think its stupid to think that this will promote teen pregancy. We see real pregnant women all the time, just because it is on glamorous barbie doesn't make it different. Most women who get pregnant or i guess you call them teens whatever, they get pregnant by takind drugs, having sex or being disconnected from family NOT by playing with a barbie doll. Also this doll was well designed cause it would be weird any other way, also this doll shows nothing about sex.

@kittyslade I disagree with you. My sisters and I (even my brother) played with this exact doll. Not once did I ever think that babies came out by ripping off the stomach of the mom. It was a fun toy and something different. I wish I would've kept it as a collectors item; it would be worth so much today.

dude when i was twelve i put fire crackers on most of my barbies and blow them up, the only ones i kept where my one of a kind barbies that look like people from around the world still in there case and i only kept them cause there worth anough to but me through collage and pay off any loans

I actually had one of these. And I loved it! It was so fun! But as for the teen pregnancy thing, nothing can promote pregnancy. Most of the time it's an accident. Why would any teen wanna get pregnant purposely? I think it's an innocent toy and should come back on the market

I think... I had the cheap knockoff version. Looked very much like a barbie, but wasn't brand name. The belly clipped on (and the stomach had a spring so it would pop in/out to accommodate the baby). Actually... now that I think about it... I may have had an earlier version... seeing as I grew up in the 80s/90's not the 00's!

They could have put a hole where her "birth hole" is supposed to be, and it would have a removable cover piece. Then you just lay her down, and push her stomach, and slowly the baby comes out, with a plastic umbilical cord, that attaches to the baby with magnets. that or the baby could have been in the box and come with adoption papers. as old as barbie is, by now she has to be a barren wasteland. XD

I had one the pregnant barbies, along with the dad, the brother and even the gradparents and the whole house and everything. I see nothing wrong with this. A lot of kids see their own moms go through pregnancy, so it's not it'll shock them, or that they won't know what it is. I think it's harmless.

Actually when it first came out it didn't have a ring, that's why conservatives thought it would've promote having kids outside marriage, they took the doll out of the market only to return with a ring and making clear she was of course married!

Anyway I think the only evil there is in a toy we adults give it to it. I don't think kids will jump to conclusions (oh, she's single and with a baby, I'll get pregnant as soon as I can!)

I think people need to remember that it is for children. It will be played with a childs imagination and not the more mature thoughts and idea that we have today. When I was 6 and I had this I didn't know how a baby was born, I just loved the idea of having a doll and pretending to be like my mom. As a little girl it was fun to play mother and house and this doll just encourage these ideas which didn't cause me any harm. Just hours of fun.

I had a similar doll in the 90's, a pregnant Steffi doll. With her you just had to hurn her belly inside-out, it was on the turning mechanism, very hard to explain.

Parents got pissed off about it ((what DON'T they get pissed off about nowadays?)) and the Midge doll was taken off shelves briefly and replaced with ones that did have the ring on their finger. Because being pregnant and a single mother is a big no-no for Mattel's "role model for girls" image.
