  • What exactly has happend to her?

  • @Springponysearch THINK She snapped her ankle? I don't know? check out some other videos rip to a wonderful horse though xxx

  • fuking horse racing..fuking people..stupid poem..face reality.

  • *Horse

  • I do agree that some people DO race horses for the love of money and fill their eyes with greed, but in all reality, a great majority don't. kathleenburns, I completely disgrace you comment of not feeling sorry for the incident, they were crying, and the wife of the owner could not even watch them put her down, could not watch them kill her. They loved their hore, how dare say such a blasphemous thing.

  • you tried your very hardest for them you ran like an angel you weren't fully grown you looked like you would of a had a very bright future ! how sad Rip angel you will be missed by those who love you may you fly high in the sky run with the wind in your mane and feel no more Pain ! may the angels be with you <3 iloveyou baby xxxxxxxxx

  • This music is beautiful. What's the name of this song? Who's the artist?

And, yes, what happened to Eight Belles was so tragic!

  • first of all..ppl that think horses like belle are bred to race..yes they are...but.. the world does not need horses like that..or racing..since it just propogates the drug trade and criminals...even if there are a few good ppl that care for the horses and dont do criminal things...and second of all..letting the horses mature before actually racing wont make much of a difference because once the cartilage hardens in their joints they cant move in the same flexible way to break speed records

  • @lakota123max i do agree that racing should be banned if we can control how ppl race their horses...without drugs and without proper health care...and yes...i was involved in the racing business..in the past tense ...

it is a shame that many many good ppl would lose their jobs if that happened...and there are so many ppl that love those horses ...what a shame everyone cant play fair and safe...money matters above all...sigh

  • @lakota123max So what you're saying is you want more government regulations because the minority of people do things that you believe aren't ethical?? Listen to what you're saying!! It is a shame that not everybody can do the right thing in any arena, but banning anything because of a small group of people is BS and should NEVER be the answer to dealing with the few. WAKE UP, AND GO GET SOME COMMON SENSE!!

  • I just love how people that aren't in the horse racing industry can talk soo much crap about it. Get educated about it first then come and say that horse racing is animal cruelty, horse racing is no where near that. Im glad and proud to say that my whole family and I are a big part of horse racing, I grew up in horse racing and will keep it going. By the way my uncle is in the kentucky derby tomorrow his on shackleford good luck uncle!!!!

  • HOJE 3 ANOS SEM EIGHT BELLES REST IN PEACE, : (

  • @jessietaylor11 Thoroughbreds and (1600s-1700s) raced at 2 and 3, too. They raced at distances frequently exceeding 2 miles, several times over the course of a very short period of time. They did not get a month between races like thoroughbreds get now. They did not get medications to help them like they get now. They did not have scientifically formulated food for their nutrition. They were sounder than they are now. You know why? Breeding. They did not breed the weak-boned, unworthy stallions.

  • @jessietaylor11 Peta is trying to save these poor horses from people like you...un-educated !!!

  • @katchkittie PETA is an abomination and needs to be disbanded. THEY are the ones that are uneducated.

  • R.I.P. Eight Belles

  • It is a tragedy what happened to Eight Bells but what is it with the constant music being played, I just wish to see the entire race and judge what happened :( not these musical tributes and snow effects. I think I have seen 15 different music tributes now to the same horse :| I mean Eight Bells was a fantastic horse, but this constant music tribute thing is getting old. I want old footage of her running and winning with the estatic commentator describing the final moments of her greatest races.

  • @MGSSOL THANK YOU!

  • I love your story with her thoughts-I read a similar one for Ruffian-they only want to run-I do with my mare whenever I can-the ultimate freedom

  • this is one of the reasons i dont like how selective they are in racing if they didnt push their breed specifics on the owners then there wouldnt be so much pressure on the breeders to stay just in the thoughbred breed i have a mustang/throughbred that can out distance her dam and sinCity was bred to race also sinCity hasnt even been registered because she's not fast enough even though she comes from a good line but SilverPistol has beaten some of the horses out on the track,-n they refuse her

  • Wasn't this jockey the same jockey who rode Barbaro? The same jockey who rode Eight Belles? The same jockey who rode both of them at their time of collapse? The SAME jockey who got accused of animal cruelty and excessive use of the whip? Coincidence?

  • No Barbaro's jockey was Edgar Prado and Barbaro didn't collapse. AND no one was accused of animal crulety 4 using a whip, that never happens, you don't see a ten year old girl with her whip in show jumping getting acussed of that.

  • Yes, Barbaro didn't collapse but he still broke down. I saw an article about an inquest into the allegation that excessive whip use was used? But correct me if I'm wrong. And yes, it does happen. A few cases around the world have been legitimate so never say never. A ten year old girl in showjumping is in a completely different circumstance and situation to a jockey and yes, you can be eliminated from a show for excessive whip use; that is what the stewards are there for.

  • Yes your right they do get suspended for using the whip too much but not in this race. And the whole show jumping thing, i like show jumping too, but what i mean is jockeys use theirs to encourage them to go faster, jumpers use theirs, like for example, out of frustration when the horse refuses.

  • Oh okay, I stand corrected then. I just saw this whole media uproar about excessive use of the whip in this race on Eight Belles, obviously not correct. Thankyou for clearing that misunderstanding up. And yes, I've whipped my horse in a Showjumping round because she refused for some silly little reason but never if it's my fault that she refused. I'm not against horse racing and the whip, by all means horses need the whip to be told it is time to go or if it's just being sheer lazy it's not mean

  • yea, i don't want to be mean i just really don't like it when people are nasty to horse racing. i also use the whip on my horse, she is lazy as well, not trying to be a hypocryit i was just saying that to point out how some people say its cruel when its the same as most of us horse people.

  • Hey nah, don't worry about it ;) I'm glad someone corrected me. Yeah, I enjoy horse racing, watch it, live it, breathe it. I understand when people say horse racing is curel, because in most ways its not.. But in some circumstances, jockeys get too carried away and forget they are riding a living animal, not thrashing a car.

  • yea, i love it so much, and yea jockeys do get carried away.

  • To banthecarriage. Half the time it is not about the money. There are plenty of people who do love the sport and the horses not the money. Also half the time you will hardly ever earn back the $ you put into the horses. Oh and these past 2 years NO breakdowns occurred at the BCC races!! ALL horses came back FINE!!

  • She will never die. Never. She may be gone on Earth but she is still alive. In my heart strong, healed, and blessed.

  • it was actually the jockeyts fault he made her slow down and change leads and turn before she was slow enough therefore makling her break her ankles, watch it again and watch the jockey. this sickens me. and i agree those horses were born to run and thats what they should do but don't break a good horses legs.

  • no it wasnt the jockeys fault at all hes a good jockey what happened to her was sad but in no way was his fault he didnt make her run at all maybe you should watch the video again

  • He seemed heartbroken after the race.

  • Race horses switch leads all the time on their own. Horses at liberty switch leads at all paces doing all manners of turns, spins, and other maneuvers. Perhaps you shouldn't lay blame on the jockey so quickly. If things were the way you claim, I can't tell you how many western horses would be breaking their ankles day in and day out.

  • @StableBabe yes i grant you horses to switch leads but not going at speeds as fast as that it was not entirely the jockeys fault,no in fact it wasnt anyones fault things just happen but horses can hurt themselves doing flying changes at these speeds

  • OMG! i watched that race and cried. with barbaro, 8 bells, and another horse i can't remeber the name of

  • barbaro ran the year before eight belles they never raced each other...

  • No, Barbaro Passed away in 2006, Not 2007. So, it was 2 years before, Not 1 year before...

  • @ruffian271

Barbaro broke down in 2006, he was put down in January of 2007.

  • No he did pass away in 2007

  • lOVELY girl u were one in a million baby u gave ur best and u left this world a winner

  • Poor Eight Belles. I hope she will never be forgotten. She was a great horse.

  • Polarmlee, I will never forget her (and I don't follow the races).

She was a brave, noble girl, and I still weep for her.

May she run free at the Bridge with the likes of Barbaro, Ruffian, Go For Wand, and the other greats.

RIP, dear girl. YOU ARE A WINNER!!

  • I have trained for 25 years now & have NEVER had a horse die on a racetrack or EVER sent a horse to a glue factory when they retire. I have always been able to notice when something might not be right & retire them early, I then sell them for just a few hundred dollars more than a slaughter house will pay so the new owner also does not have them killed.I NEVER give them away because I don't trust people just taking a freebee & cashing them in because they got them for nothing.

  • SHUT UP!to the people who want to ban horse racing or think its cruel...seriously these horses were bred to run its in there blood and not all trainers and owners send the horses to slaughter houses.Yes some owners are cruel but alot people care enough bout the horse to keep trying and no matter how it does atleast they'll be loved.I agree they should race when there atleast 3years old but its the owners choice to race them and no matter what, that horse is dreaming of being in the winners circle

  • @xpunkxrockxemoxgirlx Racing is cruel,do the research..seriously you are an idiot !!!!

  • poor eight bells she was a great filly in my heart i think she won first......she will never be forgotten

  • Every year in the United States, more than 800 horses are killed on racetracks and an additional 3,600+ horses are so severely injured on the track, they cannot finish their race. Jockeys realize the dangers of racing but the horses have no choice. If they don't make money, they will be sent off to work as a carriage horse in busy city or to a slaughterhouse.

Horse racing is not about the animals; it's about the money.

  • um. . I have only seen ONE ex-racer working as a carriage horse, and over a dozen ex-racers being retrained at public and private stables as beloved hunter, jumper, dressage, trail, equitation, or pleasure mounts. It's true that some people are cruel and some horses do get sent to slaughter, but carriage horses? You really want to help? Stop the stigma of an ex-racer and more people will adopt them as personal mounts.

  • What a tremendous filly. Horses like that is why I'll always love horse racing. She was awesome!

  • R.I.P Eight Belles

  • will miss her so much

  • luv wat it says in the more info

  • Too bad it is full of crap.

  • LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 14) - Thoroughbred racetracks in the U.S. reported more than three horse deaths a day last year and 5,000 since 2003, and the vast majority were put down after suffering devastating injuries on the track, according to an Associated Press survey. many other deaths went unrecorded.

  • i agree.. i love my horse with my whole heart! horse racing itself isnt a bad sport.. but people make it bad! its turning into something it shouldent be! just let the horses run!

  • Eight Belles, comes first with me. Eight belles lost her life for greed of others. The family will get rich from the insurance money. I do not feel sorry for the family.

  • they put more money into that horse than she made. she made history ,that she was a filly to come 2nd and she was 17 hands at 3 years os age

  • @kathleenburns How dare you. The money and the time and the love that is pumped into breeding, raising and training a horse. That money will not make up for it. Do you own horses? Do you understand the bond that you form even with horses that aren't yours personally? If not, then shut the hell up. Horse breeding and racing is not a greedy thing, it takes SO MUCH MONEY to run that you have to start with money to make any money. You do it for the love of the horses, not money.

  • This was heartbreaking to the family of eight belles my sympathies but I would hope you gave a damn.

rather then some jockies and families.

I love horses and the sports like racing but treat them better i have horses my own and love them too much to hurt them
