  • ive seen this before here in charlotte, nc on the NS line. the train had sat in the crossing for about 30 mins. and then started to move again. About 2 mins after the train started to move again, the gates went up, the lights went off and then everything reactivated. I was told by NS that the timer in the relay box had timed out and then reset.

  • Gates are going up and down.

  • lMFAO ROFL that is what we call technology.

  • Crossing signal, "God how long is this train? Need......to......hold.....my.....arm......a....little.....longer....DAMNIT!! I can't do it. Wait this train is still going? Shit, let me try this again."

  • Looks like a bad insulated joint... - as the space between the trucks are far, causing the joints to malfunction in result, causes the relay to think there's no train there.

  • As others have said, it may seem like a bad jointed rail, the clickity-clack of pretty much every car on the tracks gives that away, at least on the trailing side, causing the island circuit to freak out. Glad to see this video in daylight, even if it was a dark road.

  • "You can pass, just mind the Train that's in front of you. Oh wait... I'm suppose to keep this gate down if there's a train."

  • Well, that is a pretty bad malfunction, but on a crossing down here I've seen the signal shut off completely (gates up, lights off) while the train is still rolling through! Black tank cars crossing a dark road! It's fixed now, though.

  • @RailWolf7306 no reflective tape on the tank cars?Where was that at?

  • @legsbluetrain This was several years ago, probably 2004 or so, back before they really started to place reflective tape on the cars. It seems that almost all of the cars now have the tape. This was in south Tampa, FL at Pearl Ave. It is CSX's Port Tampa Sub. They were Cargill Corn Syrup tank cars.

  • The bad rail joint caused the signal malfunction. A railroad signal detects the train by the train wheels shorting the two rails together. If the rails have a bad joint, the rails are not always shirted together, and the signal malfunctions..

  • @Mudimush ground out rail by the depot, rail has been replace since

  • Its a new design to help get your attention and keep the birds off the arms. It also helps keep ice from damaging the arms. It got your attention didnt it!

  • Grade xing

"I'm a robot, fear my indecisive arm of death bwwahhhh!!!!" "Oh yah how ya like me now?! huh-HUH-huh?!? Can't touch this."

  • Its testing you! Are you smarter than a freight train?

  • the train just keeping on going up at and the bars keeping the arm off the over the biggst

  • It's waving at everyone... =P

  • I hence forth Knight you...

  • up or down make up your mind stupid crossing

  • @chris40539 lol

  • @chris40539 For some reason, sometimes State St,Main St,and Pine St do the same thing

  • @chris40539 LOL right i used lived by some signals that did that it was wild until they finally fixed it

  • The gate got tired of staying down and wanted to go back up! Nice catch!

  • Mabye it wanted to say hello?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! You're a very naughty crossing! LOL!!!!!!!

  • Reminds me of one of those birds that bobs up and down into a cup from some of the old cartoons. lol

  • nice quality crossing signal, thats handy

  • Looks like a bad shunt to me.

  • All trains operating in the USA all have the right away.

A signal at a crossing is technically a courtesy for stupid people

  • its possesed

  • XD!!

  • "Do I go up now? No, how about now? Now?"

  • ive had gates that have had a 1 engine powermove go over and the gates get stuck for hours and no other way out

  • That rail joint doesn't sound very good either.

  • Ground out rail.

  • @jovetj that section of ground out rail has since been replaced

  • There are no discreet sensors in the track.

The problem is rusty rail-tops or rusty wheels or both.

You should call the railroad's emergency number and report that, when you see it.

  • If you call the (800) number on the signal box, the railroad will send someone out right away to fix this sort of thing. Railroads take out of order protection equipment VERY seriously.

  • thats one horny crossing!

  • I agree with him...

But those gates looked like they were giving the train a salute! LOL

  • that happens when a rusty railcar wheel doesn't hit the sensor, so the gates think that the train is gone when it is really not, and when a good wheel hits the sensor the gates will turn on again.

  • ?? Has nothing to do with "good or bad" wheels. This is primaraly a loss of shunt across the tracks in the island. Either the island circuit isn't adjusted correctly, or there isn't sufficient shunting across the tracks to enable the island to stay down. -Usually rusty rail causes this. A "Bad" rail wheel is somewhat irrelevant.

  • LOL!

  • the sensors in the track need to be checked.

  • Hmmm...wow
