Several months later, my touchpad is not in a box somewhere. So the question is why. I too have a computer and laptop and phone with cell service.
Portability a laptop mostly and like Uncle Tone that I would never pay 600 bucks but a 99 it is great.
The interface is better than Iphone or Android. Supports Android, wireless tether to phone, easier to read than phone Tone should know that wearing glasses. If you would have purchased one, you would have found out how cool they are
"what developer is going to write software for a platform that is dead?" um, a smart one. There are over 200,000 new touchpads on the market with users looking to spend money on useful apps. They write an app and put it out there and will have a lot better chance of their work standing out. By contrast write an app for the android market and have to compete with 100 other developers with similar apps. Or even worse trying to get your new app approved on the app store. Supply & Demand!
been using my TouchPad since it dropped to $99, I've enjoyed it a lot. Even went and sold my iPad, I am all for portability of the device and my phone shares internet which my TouchPad. I don't need all the games/apps of iOS devices so that didn't bother me that there wouldn't be any support for it.
the funny thing is, you asked what developer will support a dead OS? not many, but they did the next best thing which is port Android over to the touchpad, so basically a $100 Android tablet!
Hellow! did you forget about that your phone has Wi-fi hotspot, Bingo! now you have internet wherever you go, no need to run to Starbucks or Macdonals with the HP touchpad, but you can also let us know if your iphone has a problem wit that. i would like to know WHY ipad touch has that only, depresive, unique botton that never improves not even on color chenge. That really makes me sick to see it even in all ipods. Now you have a very good question when you call apple store.
I actually bought the 32gb one for $250 because I couldn't score a firesale piece.
I think it was a worthy purchase. I use it all the time. I can't wait to get android on it to use it even more. Also, once I upgrade my phone to something with a wifi chip, I'll be able to tether my service to the touchpad.
Plus, HP is still backing up webOS, and it might even get picked up by someone else.
I agree on ur point about us going out and buying new things and using it for the time frames that it's considered new and cool, then forgetting about it till we buy something newer and better. I always buy the new phone and the new tablets I also have a touch smart PC from HP and a laptop. But isn't that why we work for? HP killed WebOS because it was KILLED by iOS devices. Dude Support or not $99 for a color tablet is a FREAKING steal - give it to your kids to play with while you play with your iPad.
Love my Touchpad, much easier for everyday use to browse the web, watch movies, etc. as opposed to my laptop. Now, I generally use my laptop 50% less as I can just grab my tablet in the living room or den, find what I need to in 5 seconds and get on with my life. My laptop's great for document editing, video or photo editing or whatever, but for casual use, my tablet's so much nicer to have.

First off, Android will be capable on this tablet very soon.. You have no use for one because you can't afford $99. You are drinking a cup of coffee in a plastic old country buffet cup. Don't talk about something you don't use. I dont write responses to tampons and you shouldn't write responses to one of the best deals out there.. Not only are you wrong about the OS completely vanishing they are making it applicable for Android. An extra 50 GB app for free is worth it alone.
This guy is just like so many others on the HP Touchpad sale forums... bitter that he missed his chance. His effort to placate himself by attempting to convince himself that it's not awesome is so boring. I guess that's what you'd expect from the huge majority of Apple lovers -- morons that have no real clue about technology. I wonder if he made a rant when the iPhone came out saying, "Why buy the iPhone? It's not necessary". Fucking hypocrite
@uncletone99 It's solid state technology and is more reliable than your laptop. It's essentially the same as your iPhone, except that it's bigger, faster, has more options for customization. Also, it gets handled less frequently and hence won't suffer a fraction of the wear and tear of any cell phone. Tell me, how long has your cell phone been working?
@uncletone99 Hahaha I cannnot help but agree with chemao. You're at work, probably live somewhere ghetto (I can tell from your "workplace") ;) and you're ranting about electronics! Seriously, how much sadder does it get? It's so freaking funny just watching you. You seriously made my day better. I thought I was a nobody, then I saw you.
The Hp touchpad is not bad at $99, but IMO I rather save my money for the PSP VITA. I will admit Apple Ipad is temping but since I own several IOS devices already, I cant justify it.
@Upy0urstyle Just the Flash support alone makes the touchpad a way better option than the iPad. Also, you're comparing a dedicated gaming device to a tablet PC. That doesn't make a lot of sense.
I don't get the "it's only use is on wifi". Yeah....ok. Probably about 75% iPad out there are wifi only. most tablet companies sell majority wifi. Dumb rant. I have a iPad 3G and have never once used the 3G. I though about it during the Irene storm but did not. What gives?
@ExposedRoot The reason he's saying that is because he's all butt hurt that he missed out. Now he's trying to find any kind of reason he can thank of to not have one... so he won't feel so bad about being busy washing dishes at the restaurant while the bargain sale was happening.
I bought my 32gb touchpad to surf the web while I chill on my couch :) pretty excited about the developers working on the android port. But if it comes down to it and they can't get android to run on it I still have a nice web browser and email client. Like someone else said I've seen digital picture frames that cost more and aren't anywhere near this tablet in terms of functionality and capability.
Future support ? Who cares ! It is $99 and I can use it for web browsing at wi-fi locations. You can also play fun motion games on it and my son absolutely loves it. You can also call with it using Skype. You can do video calls too. You can also make free calls using Skype.
@DeViLzzz2006 yeah, true, at least the hardware from HP is very nice, the screen is brilliant, and with price like $99, it's even cheaper than a Sony digital frame! I would by at least two if i could... but the 'fire sale' price is not yet available here in Singapore
@DeViLzzz2006 when switching/launching apps, and inside some of apps, also laggy randomly, e.g the calendar application... and no native youtube as well... the only impressive stuff for me is UI, quite new concept compare to android and ios, but they really need more polishing works
@harryliu2008 It was just released in July. How many IOS updates have there been since it's release? By the way, you're way behind. There have been already 3 kernel updates that make the system much faster. Read about it. Search for F4 Phantom kernel.
@harryliu2008 You need to read more, son. There is a new kernel upgrade released that lets your device run at up to 1.8GHz - up from 1.2GHz. There are also some interface tweaks. It's incredibly simple to do and only takes about 10 minutes. It's not laggy at ALL now.
But if you bought a shit android cheap ass tablet you got no support anyway and at 99 bucks and u don't like it throw it out its so cheap...i paid $65 for my iPad case...
This guy is a freakin communist !!! 99 dollars is insane. Plus if he did is research he would know that there are developers working to put android honeycomb on it. So if you can find one, go get it. Digital picture frames cost more and do nothing.
@section803 LOL developers working on Android Honeycomb for HP Touchpad... they are just rumors... Androids app are not even stable on the tablet that they are made for, what make you think developers will waste they days... trying to get Android on the HP Touchpad. HP is not even licensing out the OS. That is why they are sold as is $99. Yes it is a bargain if you just want it for webrowsing, viewing photos and music, but apps wise it is useless.
@section803 yeah but what he is trying to say is that he has no use for it so I agree with this guy, which is what america does is spend money on shit they don't really need. You on the other hand is just like the rest of them and me because I bought the touchpad 32gb. Im not gonna lie I have absolutely no use for it except that I installed preware on it and overclocked it and now I am waiting for them to port over android to the touchpad. I only bought it for the hardware.
@jrthetucan You're retarded. Did you even listen to what he was saying? You don't need any of the shit that he claims to own, but he certainly owns it (2 computers and an iPhone) How can you say that you "need" 2 computers and an iPhone, but then hypocritically criticize those that bought the Touchpad?
@chemao1978 you never know what he needs it for personally I would have a desktop for performance like gaming and laptop for travel which I do on occasion and a cellphone cause its a means of communication, what he is saying is that on top of the fact that people already have these electronics they want a tablet that which does what a normal iphone and android does. But everyone has different needs
@jrthetucan Yeah, you NEED a desktop for gaming; you NEED a laptop for travel; you NEED an iPhone to make phone calls... sorry but NONE of those are needs. In fact however, the touchpad has much more potential than a cell phone, not to mention not everybody likes to look at a tiny 3 inch screen all the time.
@chemao1978 of course they're not needs but make our everyday life much easier in communicating especially those people who depend on it because of their job. The touchpad does have more potential than a phone with a 3 inc screen but majority of phones now a days are coming with 4 inch screens or bigger which I personally like myself but there are people out there who are content with a clamshell.
@chemao1978 BTW your opinion is one in a million of other different opinions. I was just pointing out that as american's we spend money to just spend and have the greatest and latest. You didn't have to get all butt hurt about it.
@jrthetucan You completely miss the point. I wouldn't expect any more from a little kid like you, though. Here's your pat on the head. Run along now little boy.
@chemao1978 I get your point that he is being a hypocrite about the whole situation of how he missed the sale and now he is making up every little excuse he can to make himself feel better about the fact he missed out on getting the touchpad. The point that I was agreeing on is that as Americans we spend to much money on stuff we don't really need that is all.
Buy things they don't need? Like a person who buys an iPhone and then gets an Android Phone, Windows Phone, and now WebOS Palm Pixi? Your rant falls apart there because I am sure there are others getting the Touchpad at $99 just to try it out like you with that Pixi.
@danfrisco The Android phone and windows phone were both returned. And the Pixi Plus is unlocked, will be a great backup phone if something happens to my iPhone.
I was thinking about getting a HP TouchPad but I went ahead and got the ipad2 cuss I don't have a laptop/ desktop and it's the best thing I have ever bought is awesome
@Pochoco310 I've got mine sitting next to the couch on a touchstone. It defaults to exhibition mode when not in use, and I've installed the latest overclocked kernel, loaded a ton of music on it, paired it with my bluetooth audio receiver, and installed a wifi-enabled remote control application for my media center PC. It now acts as a nice music player, remote control, convenient browser and email client, not to mention a few games. When I'm relaxing in the family room, I just grab it and go.
tablets useful for business people? LMAO, funniest thing I've heard so far today. Tablets are useful for anything BUT business and productivity. They're toy computers, very responsive but limited compared to a laptop, they're good for web browsing, media, and games.
@downphoenix Hey dumbass I'm guessing you either have no professional job, own no Touchpad, OR BOTH. I use my touchpad for work. It's got my company email, calendar, and contacts on it. I can also read and edit Microsoft Office documents with it. What exactly do you think is the most common thing people do at work? Har har, that's right EMAIL, CALENDAR, and edit/view DOCUMENTS. Stop making excuses for not having one just because you're butthurt after missing the deal.
Your thesis falls into water because you forgot (neglected?) the fact that many people who buy a tablet already carry a smartphone in their pocket. Smartphone is crippled without a data connection, right? Well, use that hotspot feature then on your smartphone and your Touchpad is no longer home bound as you depicted.
you do make a good point out there, however I am someone who is interested in buying the touchpad for $100..i wont buy it for more. Just want to use it in class to read notes, and at home when I wanna web browse, so i only need wifi. And it has all the essential apps for me (facebook, etc..), so might as well buy it and then throw it away in a year and get ipad 3.
this touchpad is will help me decide if i need a tablet or not...and im gona get 3 to sell for more and cover the cost!
My only reasons for buying one (actually 3, as you probably already know) is to resell them on eBay, as they're all going for at least $250 a pop.
webOS isn't great. It's slow OOTB unless you do a bunch of tweaks, which shouldn't be necessary in the first place.
But yeah, sometimes I feel like I shouldn't have purchased an iPad, but when I actually do use it, I enjoy it a whole lot. Way more compact than my beefy gaming laptop, so it's perfect for classes and whatn
I think you use ur @ home laptop like most would use a tablet @ home. It's a awesome price and even though there'll be no support its is very smart buy. You get a totally up to date tablet (at least for now) which will totally suffice for most people. It would surprise you how many people never ever update their gadgets.
I think its ridiculous that people are running out to buy these, I work at staples and we sold out of them an hour after we opened and people were calling in all day for them, its so stupid if you wont get any support/updates later on.
Disagree tone. I use my wifi iPad all the time out and about. There is so much "free" wifi around now in cities. You live in small town rural ontario and are chained to the usual crappy Canadian cell phone providers for which you over pay hugely. Here in Vancouver we have wind. $40 a month gives me unlimited wifi and cross north america calling plus huge amounts of coffee shops with wifi so having a 3g equipped pad is pointless. 90% of usage as well is surfing and email.
Any college student would use a tablet immensely. I think is a great buy if your in high school, college or any other higher education. Its a very smart buy. Now for 500 bucks, it isn't worth it at all.
macbook pro that i got yesterday i haven't touched it since. If i don't want it my dad said he want one. He is a doctor and it is easy for him to access records while seeing patients at the hospital and the iPad is all he needs. It is still good for on the couch or in bed type of stuff. I also like playing games and reading on it as well. Although it could never replace a laptop it is a nice addition and middle ground. Although as time goes on their may be no use for it. Ill tell you if i keep i
Really all my dad does is is check and respond to email and browse the web. IF he used an app it would be a commonly used one like the ones already on the touchpad. Although he does not like the build or the OS. Even for 100 it would still be compelling for him to get a refurbished iPad 1 for 350. It will have more support than the touchpad and he prefers the OS. As for you hating on tablets i can't blame you that much. I bought and iPad the first day it came out and lovED it. Now that i have a
I agree with you even though I am guilty of having a iPad 1 which I only use to like surf the web or watch YouTube videos. Like my mom's friend has an iPad 2 and like a samsung tablet and I'm just thinking why??? Even worse is that their iPad is the 3G version and they dong even use 3G on it -.-
I admit its a steal for $99 but with no future apps that's what was bothering me. I'm glad to see someone who took up this concern. Also since HP is shutting down WebOS theres really no point in looking forward to updates or fixes. Sounds tempting to buy it, but theres nothing extra you can do with specially if you have a netbook lying around.
Now, I'm not picking up a touchpad, but You don't think some kid like Geohot or similar is going to hack the software so it can run android?
I just don't get it tone you said, "why pick up a touchpad if no support" yet you say you picked up a pixie plus will also has no future development. I don't understand why everyone cares what others are buying. The outrage is laughable.
@mocciat I was getting questions about it, so I figured I'd answer them in a video. That would be really cool if someone like Geohot hacked it. But there's no way to know if that will happen. And I bought the Pixi Plus before HP made the announcement, had I known this was coming, I probably wouldn't have bought it. But it is unlocked, so it should make a pretty decent backup phone.
@uncletone99 I get it it just seems that there is this big backlash and hatred towards the people buying them, not necessarily from you but from the community in general. It's just to me how so many people care about what others buy and keep in mind again, I could give two suits about the HP Touchpad. I'm not going out of my way to get it. On the other if I were at the grocery store and it was next to the National enquirer I might make that impulse purchase.
@mocciat hack it to run Android ???LMAO... Android apps are not even stable on the platform it is built for. What make you think developer would even waste their time to develope apps for it.... they are going to spend their time develope apps for Android and OS5
@P0LITRICS You don't make any fucking sense. One sentence you are laughing about the Android port, asserting that Android is not stable and developers won't build apps for it. In the same sentence, you change your tune and say that they WILL spend time developing Android apps. Are you on crack?
I agree completely Tone. If I ever do get a tablet, it will at least be a model that is supported. Kind of like you though, I use my iPhone for ALOT, probably more than I should. And if I need something different, my computer and laptop are right here :-)
You just don't have the money to spend if you aren't getting one for that cheap. These are selling for much higher now on eBay, so it's a no brainer..
I somewhat agree but if you travel a lot and go on planes or trains with wifi access, having a tablet is pretty awesome. It's even nice to bring to to your hotel instead of bringing your whole laptop. As for future support, you don't really need it if your getting it for so cheap. However I am not a tablet guy and I don't do a lot of travelling so I don't think I'll get one.
@SrTuX What are you talking about? You're either running a completely out of date firmware or you just don't know how to use your iPhone. Trust me it has a hot-spot.
Verizon - "3G Mobile Hotspot Capable available with iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless
iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless also includes new 3G Mobile HotSpot capabilities, allowing customers to use iPhone 4 to connect up to five compatible Wi–Fi enabled devices. (Additional Fees Apply)"
AT&T- DataPro 4GB is required for use of Internet Tethering or Personal Hotspot. $45.00/Month
I use my XOOM in bed all night i can lay on my side back stomach and can brouse anything i want much easier than with a laptop so if any one is a insomniac like me i do recomend they pick up a touchpad for 99$, its just my opinion!!! =D
@FxOxC thats me ass well lol, a laptop is nice but gets a little hot and to big for my bed....my phone is nice and fast but too small of a screen, the tablet is the perfect size lol
Well I certainly won't be buying one from the U.K. BestBuy have it for £349 for the 16gb version!!! and thats with a £50 discount. give me iPad anyday!!!
No I don't agree with your opinion you shouldn't bash things you've never even tried. It's a steal for a hundred bucks even just for web browsing and Youtube and stuff like that. And I'm pretty sure people who buy tablets don't use them for a week then leave it in the box...
I believe it's a waste of money as well. For those people who have an iPhone or any smartphone for that matter why would u need a tablet? And as for me I'm getting my MacBook pro soon an buying a useless tablet would be the last thing I'd Want to spend my money on
The only reason I like having a tablet is because I usually travel a lot so it helps to have a light computing device that does the necessities. I bought the 32GB one and I know I'll actually use it.
Apparently there is a need/use for WiFi only devices then. I have an iPod Touch 2G and I use it a lot. You know, there are a lot of people who don't protect their WiFi networks, so I can actually use it outside my home quite a lot for internet browsing ;)
Dude, sorry but everything you said about the touchpad is the exact same as the pixi plus your about to purchase. No more support and no more development. Im not hating here man but I just think a bit hypocritical in this video.
Just to let you know, WEBOS IS NOT ABANDONED. HP IS making a newer version of the Touchpad IN 2012/early 2013......

It had 300 or so apps, now it has over 12,000.
The OS was updated a fews days ago - by HP. (copy that 10-4?)
The Android port is now working okay, and will only get better.
[It dual boots both OS's]
It outperforms any iPad.
Thousands of programmers are developing apps for WebOS.

What gives?

I bought my 32gb touchpad to surf the web while I chill on my couch :) pretty excited about the developers working on the android port. But if it comes down to it and they can't get android to run on it I still have a nice web browser and email client. Like someone else said I've seen digital picture frames that cost more and aren't anywhere near this tablet in terms of functionality and capability.

For using on a lounge etc, it is not the same at all.
I think perhaps most that bought this knew what they were doing.
Most just bought it for browsing and Email - but it does far more than that.

@DeViLzzz2006 yeah, true, at least the hardware from HP is very nice, the screen is brilliant, and with price like $99, it's even cheaper than a Sony digital frame! I would by at least two if i could... but the 'fire sale' price is not yet available here in Singapore

@harryliu2008 Laggy ? When ? I have had no problems whatsoever with this os on the HP Touchpad
DeViLzzz2006 6 months ago
@DeViLzzz2006 when switching/launching apps, and inside some of apps, also laggy randomly, e.g the calendar application... and no native youtube as well... the only impressive stuff for me is UI, quite new concept compare to android and ios, but they really need more polishing works
harryliu2008 6 months ago
@harryliu2008 actually I experienced some of the laggy stuff but that was when I was downloading a kajillion applications from the HP store

@DeViLzzz2006 and u also can try calendar application, it's one of the apps that I use it daily
harryliu2008 6 months ago
@harryliu2008 It was just released in July. How many IOS updates have there been since it's release? By the way, you're way behind. There have been already 3 kernel updates that make the system much faster. Read about it. Search for F4 Phantom kernel.
chemao1978 5 months ago
@chemao1978 actually F15C kernel has been out for about a week know and it lets you overclock to 1.9GHz
jrthetucan 5 months ago
@jrthetucan It's been out for longer than that. F4 Phantom is the one that you're thinking about. It's the latest kernel.
chemao1978 5 months ago
@harryliu2008 You need to read more, son. There is a new kernel upgrade released that lets your device run at up to 1.8GHz - up from 1.2GHz. There are also some interface tweaks. It's incredibly simple to do and only takes about 10 minutes. It's not laggy at ALL now.

This guy is a freakin communist !!! 99 dollars is insane. Plus if he did is research he would know that there are developers working to put android honeycomb on it. So if you can find one, go get it. Digital picture frames cost more and do nothing.
section803 6 months ago 13
@section803 LOL developers working on Android Honeycomb for HP Touchpad... they are just rumors... Androids app are not even stable on the tablet that they are made for, what make you think developers will waste they days... trying to get Android on the HP Touchpad. HP is not even licensing out the OS. That is why they are sold as is $99. Yes it is a bargain if you just want it for webrowsing, viewing photos and music, but apps wise it is useless.
P0LITRICS 6 months ago
@section803 yeah but what he is trying to say is that he has no use for it so I agree with this guy, which is what america does is spend money on shit they don't really need. You on the other hand is just like the rest of them and me because I bought the touchpad 32gb. Im not gonna lie I have absolutely no use for it except that I installed preware on it and overclocked it and now I am waiting for them to port over android to the touchpad. I only bought it for the hardware.
jrthetucan 5 months ago
@jrthetucan You're retarded. Did you even listen to what he was saying? You don't need any of the shit that he claims to own, but he certainly owns it (2 computers and an iPhone) How can you say that you "need" 2 computers and an iPhone, but then hypocritically criticize those that bought the Touchpad?
chemao1978 5 months ago
@chemao1978 you never know what he needs it for personally I would have a desktop for performance like gaming and laptop for travel which I do on occasion and a cellphone cause its a means of communication, what he is saying is that on top of the fact that people already have these electronics they want a tablet that which does what a normal iphone and android does. But everyone has different needs
jrthetucan 5 months ago
@jrthetucan Yeah, you NEED a desktop for gaming; you NEED a laptop for travel; you NEED an iPhone to make phone calls... sorry but NONE of those are needs. In fact however, the touchpad has much more potential than a cell phone, not to mention not everybody likes to look at a tiny 3 inch screen all the time.
chemao1978 5 months ago
@chemao1978 of course they're not needs but make our everyday life much easier in communicating especially those people who depend on it because of their job. The touchpad does have more potential than a phone with a 3 inc screen but majority of phones now a days are coming with 4 inch screens or bigger which I personally like myself but there are people out there who are content with a clamshell.
jrthetucan 5 months ago
@chemao1978 BTW your opinion is one in a million of other different opinions. I was just pointing out that as american's we spend money to just spend and have the greatest and latest. You didn't have to get all butt hurt about it.
jrthetucan 5 months ago
@jrthetucan You completely miss the point. I wouldn't expect any more from a little kid like you, though. Here's your pat on the head. Run along now little boy.
chemao1978 5 months ago
@chemao1978 I get your point that he is being a hypocrite about the whole situation of how he missed the sale and now he is making up every little excuse he can to make himself feel better about the fact he missed out on getting the touchpad. The point that I was agreeing on is that as Americans we spend to much money on stuff we don't really need that is all.

Your thesis falls into water because you forgot (neglected?) the fact that many people who buy a tablet already carry a smartphone in their pocket. And it has all the essential apps for me (facebook, etc..), so might as well buy it and then throw it away in a year and get ipad 3.

Really all my dad does is is check and respond to email and browse the web. IF he used an app it would be a commonly used one like the ones already on the touchpad. Although he does not like the build or the OS. Even for 100 it would still be compelling for him to get a refurbished iPad 1 for 350.

The outrage is laughable.
mocciat 6 months ago
@mocciat I was getting questions about it, so I figured I'd answer them in a video. That would be really cool if someone like Geohot hacked it. But there's no way to know if that will happen. And I bought the Pixi Plus before HP made the announcement, had I known this was coming, I probably wouldn't have bought it. But it is unlocked, so it should make a pretty decent backup phone.
uncletone99 6 months ago
@uncletone99 I get it it just seems that there is this big backlash and hatred towards the people buying them, not necessarily from you but from the community in general. It's just to me how so many people care about what others buy and keep in mind again, I could give two suits about the HP Touchpad. I'm not going out of my way to get it. On the other if I were at the grocery store and it was next to the National enquirer I might make that impulse purchase.

@P0LITRICS You don't make any fucking sense. One sentence you are laughing about the Android port, asserting that Android is not stable and developers won't build apps for it. In the same sentence, you change your tune and say that they WILL spend time developing Android apps. Are you on crack?
