I was wondering, how well does this netbook play flash video? I am not worried about HD youtube on it, but I'd like to use regular flash if it works well. Thanks!
On my other video, I demonstrate YouTube performance.
The basic break down is that low to normal quality YouTube Videos will work. But if you try to go 720p expect some lag and 1080p is almost inoperable.
Hi. Great video. I ordered an Asus Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-MU17 with 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 Processor and 1gb of ram. Will I be able to watch 720p videos with this configuration? Should go to 2gb RAM. Is it expensive? is it easy to install the RAM? Sorry for the trouble. I hope you can help
@Repter75 It doesnt play 720p. Yeah, I bought it with widows 7 started, but I got so sick of it so I switched to Ubuntu, just until I get my hands on a better Win7 version.
Will you still be doing a full report for Windows 7 on this netbook? I plan on getting this netbook, but I'm not sure if I should get the Win XP model or the one that comes with Win 7 Starter and upgrading it to Pro (school gives me free Win 7 Pro too :D). Thanks.
In the end, I deleted the windows 7 partition and just stuck with windows XP.
Windows 7 Starter would probably be okay but 7 pro just felt a little too flashy for a netbook. For example, the previews of the program screens that pop up when you however over the icon, it just felt too big and out of place for such a small screen.
In the end I went back to XP, since the gains of windows 7 on a netbook didn't feel like a lot.
which is the same as the RTM version everyone downloaded before windows 7 officially came out. But thats beside the whole point of this video. Good video, i really want this netbook
Well done! I'm impressed with your video playback test...and its running Win7. From my research, this model seems to be the favorite of most reviewers...with a perfect combination of performance and battery life. I was originally leaning toward the 1008HA seashell version for its thin, light form factor but I think battery life is more important to me.
I'm a real noob at this stuff, so bare with me if the question is kinda dull, but how does windows 7 perform on netbooks, since you're using the 1000HA here? Is it better than the usual XP? thanks
i can't thank you enough for this review. i was also hesitant because the eee pc came with windows 7. there were so many people that said win 7 would be useless on this netbook and xp is better.
do you think my asus 1005ha with intel atom n270 with super high perfomance can play 720p videos without lagging? And my n270 give me 1.68 ghz with super high perfomance. how many ghz will the n280 give with super high perfomance?
Well, first of all you need an external DVD drive and the Windows 7 Disc.
You install it like normal, but then you'd have to get the drivers from the Asus site. All of them work except for Super Hybrid Engine. To get that one to work, look for the newer version of it on the support page of some of the newer models on the eeePC line and use that SHE.
Can you tell me the ranking of your windows 7 in different parts for that Eee PC?
to see the ranking of your Eee PC you should first right click on my computer and click on the properties, second in the middle of opend page you should click on the "Windows Experience Index" and then you can see subscore of different component.
please tell me these subscore of different component.
b) 1024x600 works well /most/ of the time. The only time it gets annoying is when the application you want to run wants at least 1024x768 (like Google Earth). It'll run, but with a portion of the program cut off.
Regarding your earlier video when running Hulu 480p fullscreen on XP, did you do anything special to your EEE besides the 2Gb of RAM? Did you overclock it? Just wondering why some people are able to run Hulu flawlessly at full screen on the 1005 and some aren't!
Do you think the Asus 1101ha would be able to run hulu fullscreen at 480p with 1Gb of RAM while overclocked to 1.73 Ghz (max 30% setting)?
using windows 7, how is streaming hd video playback on this system, such as youtube hd or hulu full screen, does it still lag, what about when its overclocked?
I didn't try Windows 7 with only 1gb of ram, so I have no idea what the difference is like.
I do want to note that when I'm just using windows 7 to go online, chat, or watch videos, it takes at most 1.3gb When I just start up the computer it's about 700MB.
How did you install Win 7 on a netbook? Netbooks normally don't have DVD drives. U used a pendrive to do that? If so, could you send me a link to the guide?
Correct, but it's not just a "the human eye" thing.
There's physically not enough pixels to output even 720p without shrinking or coping the image.
720p = 1280×720
1080p = 1920x1080

Thanks for doing this video. :)
Was seriously going to buy this but, kinda having second thoughts about it now.
Are there any 10" that can play 1080p?
crimsonmoon82 2 years ago
Any one that has the nVidia ION platform should be able to play 1080p video.
But then again, I'm not sure if any 10 inch ones have the ION platform in them, you'd have to go up to 11 or 12 inches.
Repter75 2 years ago
The Eee PC 1201N uses Ion.

Does this thing play DVD movies smoothly (obviously with a usb dvd drive)? Or would an uncompressed DVD be too much and cause it to stutter?

Hey, how did you INSTALL windows 7 onto the netbook? I know how you got it, i'm just wondering how you installed it.
burgerman72 2 years ago
I plugged in an internal DVD-ROM drive via an External HDD enclosure and then set the boot in bios to boot from it.
Then waited it to load, press a bunch of options, type in the CD key and start it up.

On Super Performance my N280 only goes up to 1.7Ghz.
You could try playing 720p video, I'm not sure if the results tho.

Excellent review. I have a couple of questions for the maker of this video -
a) When you made the video, how much system memory (RAM) was installed?
b) Do you think the 1024x600 resolution is perfectly fine when compared with 1366 x 768?
Thanks.
pinaklonkar 2 years ago
a) 2GB

No, I used an external DVD-Drive.....
Actually it was an external enclosure for a 3.5" hard drive that I jerry-rigged an internal 5.25" DVD-ROM Drive to.
