  • Forget the politics or any messgae. This is a great song

  • @Derek9307 the politics and the message it wut makes it a great song! people fightin for their freedom. its wut we r gonna have to do here in the U.S. if that fuckin Obama gets re-elected in november!

  • @dc761 freedom? the stuart dynasty tried to abolish parliament n reinstate catholicism as the state religion, starting the first of several bloody civil wars over 9 years, they werent the nicest bunch... politics aside, great tune :)

  • this is my favorite song by big country!!!

  • What an extraordinary song, so beautifully produced, and played with such eerie, melancholy emotion.

  • still brilliant and always will be

  • great song.

  • REALLY REALLY STRONG SONG

STUART WAS ALWAYS AWESOME AT MAKING BONE-CHILLING SONGS

THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY ONE OF THEM

I AM A DESCENDANT OF THE HIGHLAND SCOTTISH JACOBITES SUPPORTING CHARLES EDWARD STUART EXILED IN 18TH CENTURY

    RIP MY HERO STUART ADAMSON

  • @TheAmericanbornscot Totally agree with you. Peace to you from Texas !

  • i remember the magic hearing this for the first time, headphones on while being allowed to use my dads stereo for one of my records, haunting, stirring and magical. i could feel the rain and the hunt and lived it , years later i shook hands with stuart at a gig and i remembered that moment i first heard this. stay alive

  • 4 dislikes, theres no pleasing some people, this is awesome and has been well put together

  • @pandaplodder - There you go then . . . a history of Germanic breeding :)

  • @pandaplodder - No more ironic than the British Royal family also being German. Good old Albert . . . :)

  • scotland the brave !!

  • delussions of grandeur from this lot never ceases to amaze me, no wonder there is so much resentment towards the land of the free and home of the brave, as for the whole rothschild ramble ? smacks more than a little of parts of a country where they still deny evolution, which is no surprise as they haven't evolved since the 17th century

  • @morrisshaw Oddly enough, some of the leading voices in the Intelligent Design movement are from the U.K. and Germany. Nice try though.

  • You should all be ASHAMED!!!!!! We are so much more alike then the Ethnicities that tug on our existence!!! Muzzies are comin' so get your stupid ideological shit straight, jackarses!! lol but true....USA 4Ever!!

  • love this song very underr

    ated

  • Ha ha ha, Brits suck ass.

  • @ArmoredFelix - hmm, let me see. Ignorant comment - check. Irrelevant - check. Likely to annoy others - check. Contains reference to the subgenus Asinus (a member of the Donkey family) - check....you must be an American? Welcome to the party yank, we'll try and keep the conversation down to at least two syllables a word for you....

  • @CarlBewley A Brit that tries to be clever. LULS!

  • @ArmoredFelix ...obviously not that clever, I don't know what LULS stands for. Is it some kind of weapon? or some Navy Seals Special Ops type thing? ;) "What's G13 do Tommy?"

  • @CarlBewley Luls or lulz is a corruption of LOL. More specific than lol, it's laughter at the expense of someone. Schadenfreude lulz is the only reason to do anything. No matter how badly you misbehaved stating that you did it for the lulz makes whatever you did okay and excusable. For a more indepth description see encyclopediadramaticaDOTch/Lulz

  • @ArmoredFelix - Thanks for the description. I take it during his tenure, that President Bush had plenty of lulz then? that WMD thing he, Cheney and Rove made up in order to invade Iraq must have had them LULing in the aisles. Behaving badly . . but it was funny . . . . well not to the hundreds of thousands or dead and wounded Iraqi's but you know, a joke is a joke after all. LULZ. ;) peace unto you and please vote Democrat, the world does not need another loose cannon cowboy in the Whitehouse.

  • @CarlBewley Yes, you have it exactly right. Unfortunately America has been lulzing it up at the brown countries expense since it was established. Democrat, Republican, same monster. They are all owned and run by Lord Rothschild and his lackeys.

  • @ArmoredFelix Lord Rotschild is an evil, not a man. He is the leader of so-called blue-blooded aristocrats who look down on normal people as serfs and has no single humane feeling in his soul. The poverty and misery of millions of people living in this world is a result of the global political & economical system and his family runs

  • @MrCemsipahi I am constantly amazed at how clever and aware the British are. I mean yeah, there's the chavs and such, but still.

  • @MrCemsipahi Hmmmm does not look to me that you actually read anything else about him than leftist propaganda.... I am not a fan of capitalism and consumerism but there is a bit more to the guy than meets the eye...... and unfortunately the system in place now also prevented millions (probably billions) from starving early poor deaths.....

  • @Reemster I agree to a point.I've been taking some con vs. lib as false shadows on the wall. The total and simple truth is that Stallin and the marxists would've put us in a gulag.Hitler and the nazis would've shipped us off to a concentration camp.I can see bad things which were once laid to rest coming back into the practices of men.I have been for some time, bad things done and bad reactions.I realised a bad culmination of events at Easter not long ago.Halloween on Easter anybody? no1wants2know

  • It practically killed my spirit as it was trying to break free. Maybe I should just let it go for the sake of my soul and peace. It was strange and bad and it left a scar on my mind. Things that have unfolded since have solidified the exsistance and reverence of Christ, God and the Holy Spirit to me. It was scary, it wasn't cherubs and clouds and lights. It was rough and frightening and hard to explain except for the triggering eppisode around Easter. Gotta stop now, thoughts starting creep me.

  • @CarlBewley Also the reason I won't be voting.

  • @CarlBewley Oh and by the way, I like all the clever Yanks adore the English and the Scottish. Welsh and Irish are another matter.

  • @ArmoredFelix You are a cocksucking tosser!!!

  • @ArmoredFelix - damn, my Grandmother was Welsh ...and my Dad Irish....No Scot though. Bugger ;)

  • @CarlBewley Just for your edification your attempt to obfuscate the fact that Americans are just like Brits is somewhat pathetic.

  • @ArmoredFelix - I made no such statement. I merely pointed out your shortcomings in the matter of communication skills . . and I was right wasn't I cowboy? Americans are nothing like 'brits' as you call them...Because Great Britiain is an entity of four different countries with very different characteristics. Of course, as you Americans are well known for your accurate grasp of Geography as well, you'd know that wouldn't you?

  • @CarlBewley Nope, Britain is a mass of chavs, that's it.

  • @ArmoredFelix - Hmmm I'm afraid to retort in case you try to invade and steal all our natural resources ..oh it's alright, we haven't got any, you wont be interested. Go on, just for me, mention God and Guns, it helps to keep the stereotype alive..................Dude.

  • @CarlBewley I like you. :D

  • @ArmoredFelix - and you're going up in my estimations too, you non conforming Colonial . . . . ;)

  • hibeegirl17....another person who doesn't know there history watching to much Braveheart........If you knew your history then you would know that it was Robert the Bruce who won independence and before you rattle on a lot of tripe...I vote SNP as well so get a grip...lol

  • @TheCastlerankie Yeah Robert the Bruce won independence, he never helped wallace though, all the Bruce was interested in was feeding his own greed thats what drove him to independence.

  • @TheCastlerankie Ok maybe too much Braveheart but he did swear allegiance to Edward I for a short time the rest is history...in more ways than one...lol

  • when we walk away from the storms roar then i will be afraid no more and now in sure of where i stand let the strengh of peace run through this land

  • AMEN ! (colin)

  • Well i was born in england with a welsh father, scottish mother and irish grandparents so to be honest i dont know what the hell i am, all i do know that this is a fantastic song and video as were all of B C's songs, so stop arguing about stuff from 300 years ago and just enjoy the music ;-)

  • @colinthomson2205 - Can I get a non religious amen! :)

  • @CarlBewley Amen

  • I'm Irish and the where the Irish went wrong, unlike the Scots, was Ireland didn't unite under its own King and install its own native peerage. Not religiously reforming with the rest of the British Isles was also a grave mistake in my opinion. Both of those steps might have helped preserve Irish national autonomy.

  • Best thing that happened tae scotland weirdly enough was edward the first........Robert the bruce knew that the english might was there for the taking...lol

  • @TheCastlerankie robert the bruce sold us out to the english...he did what he thought was best at the time..the best thing for scotland now is Alex Salmond...bring on the referendum!!!!!

  • They came from the hills with a tear in their eyes...........its a song about the scottish highland clearances...Im very proud to be Scottish...VERY VERY Proud and i dont care what anyone else thinks...............we are all the same at the end of the day..patriotic and proud x

  • Mr.Adamson said "Stay alive"Scots,English and Irish who cares...Just listen.

  • great song, brings back some good memories of days gone by ... R.I.P. Stuart

  • I thought Big Country were Italian.

  • @jasondewey1 did you think ABBA WERE - CHINESE AND BEATLES WERE FRENCH AND TAKE THAT ARE FROM PAKISTAN??

  • @blue4u1873 Oh!! You have hurt my feelings. It is not fair to mock me because I thought Big Country were from Italy.I hope you are proud of yourself.I was very happy to hear that they are Scottish.I like Scotland.I once went to Scotland to a place called Hull.Peace brother.

  • @jasondewey1 - Tut silly, Hull isn't in Scotland..... McHull is, next to OchAyeTheNooBlackpool ;)

  • @CarlBewley Hahahahah,,yes you are right,I am silly.

  • I'm not anything, I just love the song. (having said which, the lyric 'my James' refers to the then king of England, who was a Scot. Layers within layers!)

  • @kenusshabbus yes he was Jockanese however no lover of england , they killed his mother remember.

  • I am of Irish and Scottish descent I know because this vibrates my very soul. I am American my family was from Tipton Ireland 1868. My ancestor fought the bloody English oppressors in that war. This song pulls at my heartstrings, and even though I first heard it (and bought he album) over thirty years ago it still brings a tear to my eye.

  • @MericusHtwtchka - Hi, as an Englishman, A huge BC fan, and the person who created this video, have to say 'bloody english oppressors' is a little misplaced. Right back to Edward the firsts days, Scotlands fight with England involved many of the Scottish landed gentry fighting against their own and on the side of England. It was a divided nation and if anything, English occupation 'united' Scotland - If only in their hatred of us! I dont hate Scotland, love the place and its people. Stay alive!

  • @CarlBewley you killed our language and much of our culture my firedn this si why i do not type this out in my native tounge so u are oppressors

  • @CarlBewley you killed our language and much of our culture my firedn this si why i do not type this out in my native tounge so u are oppressors, although scots did fight for england.

  • @frazledazzle11 - is that why you cant spell?

  • @MericusHtwtchka this song also brings a tear to my eye as well, I heard this album in the 80 and bought it. something about it called out to me as well, I was a soldier then and served in panama, granada, and saudi arabia and at every place in the world I served I took big country albums with me. no matter the situation or whatever I was going through, there was a song to fit perfectly. They got me through some pretty tough times and I still listen to at least one song everyday

  • im scottish end of . im happy. argue away i dont care

  • this is fucking brilliant - I am of celt descent - i dont give a shit - for me - this is genius - it reminds me of my teens - long play on big country - and god rest stuart adamsons soul xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • this is fucking brilliant - I am of celt descent - i dont give a shit - for me - this is genius - it reminds me of my teens - long play on big country - and god rest stuarts adamsons soul xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I have thought long and hard why I love Big Country so much and it is embodied in this song. It is music that reaches back through the mists of time to my ancestors. It is the essence of what it means to be Celtic and it defines us. I cannot believe a true Celt would not love Big Country. As to everyone else, maybe it speaks to your heritage too. It goes to the very core of who I am, it is like it is inseparable from me. God, I am rambling.......

  • It is part of human nature to hate something, usually something they envy, fear or don't understand . . . personally I hate intolerant people!

    .

    .

    .

ah, that would mean I hate myself . . . oops!

This is a great song and one I do not hate!

  • @CarlBewley Good on ya fella. This is about music here

  • @wils1689 Well said mate.

What chance have the English got when north/south Walians hate each other,Northen and Southern Irish hate each other and the Scottish the same for the same reason, religion. This is about music and great music at that so as Carl said leave the xenaphobia for another place.

The fact the whole world hates the English makes us even more proud to be English, something the rest of people in the UK don't get.

  • @googleisshittoss yeah blah blah, sshh

  • it dont matter where you come from you should always be proud of your hometown after all its where it all started. ohh yeahh and music should be free!!

  • @CarlBewley yes that was pretty narrow minded rant from me, one of them days, apologies, i can't tar all with same brush or from personal experiences

  • @elitesniperface - doh, a reasonable reply! Didnt expect that so now I feel guilty for snapping back so my apologies.. Gets a little tiresome on here listening to all the anti 'everbody' feeling. One thing I'm sure Stuart wouldn't want, is fighting over who lives where and who did what to who . . . . lets look forward not back. peace to you and Stay alive!

  • @CarlBewley no i needed a slapping back to reality, peace to you also

  • Comment removed

  • @elitesniperface according to you

  • @elitesniperface according to you and you are!

  • @sappermacsheffrey - yeh whatever my faux gangsta friend . . . .

  • lovely pics the problem here is that back in the16- 17 century scotland and england were different countries(and still are i go abroad to scotland for my holidays) they were fighting a proper war with kings and queens, villages were wiped off the map north and south dont you realise that? and if you live in usa or canada your ancestors might have been there its got fuck all to do with ghandi and if you ever goto sctland enjoy

  • Can i add to the dispute, that Stuart Adamson was actually from Manchester??? His family moved to Dumfries when he was a child.

  • @ChemicalAngel175

    Dumfries???? Dunfermline!!!

  • Scotland is great, very humble people, big country are not about violence, with this song its history. oh and i like haggis...hoots man :)

  • prachtige song ! unieke sound

  • 9/10/01 I ran in to batten down for a squall I saw coming, dark clouds bristling with lightning; but by the time I was done, it was gone. Gone off up the coast toward the city (New York). "Odd thing" I thought, but not too odd around here in late summer. The next day I thought of that storm, and this song, and still do to this day. It is a storm, isn't it? Circling the world throughout history-not caring for nation or race or religion-just looking for a place to land or a heart to give it room.

  • Saw them twice in their heyday in Norwich. Looking forward to seeing them again in Norwich in April, but sadly not same lineup RIP

  • I am English and admire the Scots :)

Good bunch of people and if you can't see that you appear to need specsavers :)

  • The Scots are welcome all over the world. Our celtic soul brothers. An Irishman

  • @theholyfather1 Piss off ya durty fenian bastard and don't patronise us

  • @aggyuvf 23 people have commented on you,r channel and all seem to think that you,re a wanker. Scotland has assholes like everywhere else but I can still like it with or without you,r permission.

  • @theholyfather1 Bolt ya fanny baws

  • @theholyfather1 a recent survey of DNA done in the UK by University College London that showed that the south of England is as Celtic as mainland Scotland, and that many of those who consider themselves Anglo-Saxon are in fact Celts?

  • I really don't understand why there is war in the world ;})... too many trees?

can we actually drink a pint without mounting each others' mothers or speak with deviled tongues at one another? I'm outside a jungle, but inside a zoo, I'm a computer and so are you... Nice history lesson by the way.

  • big country didn't care about who u are they just wrote songs that are awsome live with it and listen

  • Shame people can't just enjoy the great tune without all the bitchin.

  • Gawd ! What a bunch of phuckin' MORONS

  • win one fight and talk about it for five hundred years and we get moaned at if we mention the war

  • I'm Dutch. And proud to say I bought this LP as soon as it was available here. Not because it was Scottish but because it was fantastic. Look elsewhere on Youtube to see Earth from a distance. A tiny blue marble. Then think about your futile scottish vs english vs welsh vs irish vs rest of the world nonsense. And vice versa. I think BC really raised a voice against that kind of thinking?

  • Some of these comments are hilarious.

Culloden and the Bonnie Prince himself was all about religion it was a religious war between Catholics and Protestants nothing to do with English or Scots as fathers and sons and brothers and cousins from both sides also fought for both sides.

  • The only thing Hadrian got wrong was not building his wal high enough to keep you English wankers out of here. Do you do the same as you do everywhere else, move in and try to take over. Get it right up yous!

  • Hi big country awesome band.like most of us im into good music my relatives are from scotland so what i live in england big deal.big country awesome music it rocks.

  • Is arthur 777ist a dick ? I think so.

  • @jimcorrill - I dont think Gandhi said 'piss off back' did he? lol

  • I am like Terry look at whatever happened to the likely lads?-no hiding place....

    part 1.that is me.

  • funny we are all so proud of something we had no control over...where we were born or raised. Better if we do something worthwhile in our society that is worthy of being proud about.

  • @arthur777ist - I'm English and still live in England thanks. I don't see a huge housing problem here or an especially large influx of Scots. Do you really live in Peru? Bit of a moronic comment wasn't it really?

  • @arthur777ist go suck yourself into a coma, and if your English I cant imagine any English being proud of you so do your countrymen a favour and shut up.

  • @arthur777ist why dont u come up here and say some of yer pish to our faces? and i think ''most'' of us including me live here in bonnie scotland, anyway lets get back to this epic song,

  • @arthur777ist Most of us are not living in England. Percentage wise there is 10 times more English in Scotland than Scots in England. I am proud to be Scots and living in Scotland. I know many people who are proud to be English and living in Scotland. You are somebody who never went anywhere and never did anything. . That is why you are such a retard.

  • @arthur777ist I am proud an Scottish, why shouldn't I be. Are you not proud to be English. Percentage wise there is ten times more in English living in Scotland than Scots in England. You won't know that tho cos you have never been anywhere and you are a retard.

  • @arthur777ist Percentage wise there is 10 times more English living in Scotland than Scots in England. Did you know that, probably not cos you have never been anywhere and you are a retard. Anyway nice talking to you :-)

  • Percentage wise there is 10 times more English living in Scotland than Scots in England. Did you know that, probably not cos you have never been anywhere and you are a retard. Anyway nice talking to you :-)

  • @kekkky - You posted this four times. . . . and you're calling someone else retarded? :)

  • Comment removed

  • @arthur777ist The Scottish are good people, leave them the fuck alone

  • @arthur777ist The Scotts are the least of your worries mate. Have not driven through Oldham, Leicester, Burnley, Bradford or Blackburn lately ? You should be nice to Scottish people because in years to come England will be hoping they will come and help you in World War 3. No doubt us Kiwi's and Aussies will come and help again too. I'm assuming you do have deep English heritage, and if so you should think better about who you want to be mates with. Otherwise you are totally fucked.

  • big country :D - fuck the royals !

  • first seen them supporting the Jam 1982 since then they have been an inspiration to me they are awesome music on a different plane what a waste when he went Stuart the best guitariest I av ever heard sleep well and rest in peace u deserve it and thank u

  • wonderful stuff !

  • history is history but it is about time we had a country of our own . russia let a lot of countries go on there own , so why wont westminster let us have our own country ? in this day and age it is just plain simple they are making too much money out of scotland to let it go . its 2010 and we are still ruled by people we dont want to be ruled by !

  • @wildhaggis35 2 things world is a fuckin eveil place my mom is a scot, its the other way around 1 world order, scotland america ae just staes or stokcs and bonds only countires to make us slaves and conform, thier are no countries any more

  • @wildhaggis35 before i was a all knowiing i wanted scot to be free, but other way around. sad every country has had eveil been taken over supressed and you can call your self proud as you faught back scots are real men. i just came back from lazy spoiledf hawaiins mad losiing thier own country, when like a reatrd need some one to look after it, got nothing but blessings never any eveil stuff, but if they are mad at losiing kingdom of hawaii how come they never faught back. god damm cowards

  • This song, like the whole album,is pure class

I like the way the drums and choral/celtic voices weave at the end..Bryzecki is behind so many wonderful drum parts, without him "Citieis in Dust" (Suzy & Banshees) just wouldn't sound right..he was the ONLY guy that could have gotten it right on that song just like he did on "the Phoenix" by The Cult

  • Can I dare say i'm proud to be Scottish without someone thinking it's an anti English statement?

I'm proud to be Scottish, i'll say it again I'm proud to be Scottish, i'll say it again I'm proud to be Scottish, i'll say it again i'm proud to be Scottish and I just know i'm irritating someone by saying it, is it you and why ?

It's not as simple as borders and flag planting it's about culture and heritage and respect for the people who paved the way for who I am today. I feel gratitude for them

  • @grahampurdie - Good for you matey. Nobody said you cant have pride in your home or your ancestry. Problems only arise when people start bickering about whose bit of land is best or who can live on their bit of land or takin gtheir neighbours land unfairly etc. Nothing wong with ascerting your view that you are proud of what you are and where you come from.

  • @grahampurdie

Aye, same here. Highlander, me. Alba gu Bragh.

  • @grahampurdie ALBA GU BRATH !!

  • @grahampurdie speak the truth brother. Be proud of who you are. They maybe able to take your hom and land but not who you are. It's something noone can ever take away and never let anyone else tell you different.

  • @grahampurdie i echo every word pal

  • @grahampurdie...whats you having pride in being scottish got to do with this clip?..... or is it a scottish tradition that you have to post personal pride of being scottish on anything connected with scotland?...for example if a mention the M8 glasgow to edinburgh road do you feel scottish pride welling up in you? how about gordon brown......no wait..sean connery?...i can hear the pipes already..lololol..get a grip mate they were a band and most people couldn't give a flying fook where they from

  • @1MrTurd , did you even take any notice to the lyrics of this song ? if you had then you wouldn't have wasted your time moaning, I can assure you it's a Scottish issue, even after all the pictures on the video you are still so blind as not to see what it was all about. I bet you were the same at school, fkn useless. Like I mentioned before i'm proud to be Scottish for many reasons and your one of the bike seat sniffers that for some reason gets irritated by that. Your problem get over it, DICK

  • @grahampurdie lololololol, havnt got a problem with scotland or scottish people, couldnt give a flying fook about your country or your countrymen ( i do hope ALL scottish people vote snp and get full independance..........then sign up to become a european state lololol ) .....and do you really think anyone from england would give a fook? get over it TIT........p.s given up sniffing bike seats years ago

  • @1MrTurd , whats this got to do with your last comment ? You told me the song has nothing to do with Scotland and it's pride, so at least defend yourself and come out with a decent answer. I'm dying to hear it.

Why should I care if England give a fuck about us being independent or not, it's for us to progress and not about getting one back on England. Do you think I want independence so I can stick my fingers up at England ???? You are numb you really are.

  • @grahampurdie

I'm a Yorkshireman but spent many years at the University of St Andrews, both as student and lecturer. Scotland is a wonderful country with a cultural heritage to be proud of. So is England. I have many Scots friends living in Yorkshire and many English friends in Scotland. There isn't a problem either way. Just ignore idiots like arthur777ist - he doesn't speak for the majority of us English.

Big Country are one of the best Scottish bands, up there with Runrig and Wolfstone.

  • @grahampurdie Im Proud with you x

  • @hibeegirl17 , you can be my sister x
