I remember this. I didn't have to go to school for a week. We lost power for five days, cooked on a gas grill, burned everything we could possibly burn in our house, paid the neighbor boy 20 dollars to shovel our car out of the driveway, lost an old oak tree in our backyard to the snow, and slept next to our fireplace. those were the days!
i lived in Mentor in the 70's.I remember the big snow, and miss it so much.It was a great place to grow up,just a pretty place.I miss living there and think about it alot.I haven't been to Mentor since 78.Thanks for the memories!
People need to understand is that "Global Warming" does not mean that snow won't fall. It means that, in our case, because Lake Erie freezes later and later each year, we are more apt to have more and more severe Lake Effect snow storms. Remember, when it's the coldest in Cleveland it hardly snows at all because the Lake freezes. If the temp is at 32 or so & winds suck up Lake Erie water, it becomes snow and is dumped on us. The snow season is longer the longer it takes for Erie to freeze!
I was pregnant and my son was two weeks overdue when this storm started. I had him November 15, 1996. I remember the National Guard coming to our neighborhood in Chesterland to rack the roofs because the snow was so heavy
I REMEMBER THIS. I live in Phoenix now. But I lived in Cleveland then - had returned from Chicago by plane and I was the last flight in - they closed Hopkins-I had to drive from Airport out to Mentor and it was slow going - the slush turned to ice. Oh, I love Phoenix.
haha i remember this. i had the entire week off of school, my family slept on the floor next to the fireplace, and we cooked everything on a propane grill. it was COOOOOOLD in our house!
