Months before Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan had allready been destroyed by thousands of US bombers. A nuclear bomb test outside japanese coast, would have been quite effective to end the war with, if diplomacy had been applied simultaneously. Diplomacy has allways been underestimated. Of what use would Hitler's advisors or followers have been to the Third Reich after they surrendered in May 1945? Germany surrendered in May '45, Japan surrendered in August '45. May comes before August, I hope you realise that. Of course what the Third Reich did was not an accepted behaviour. And the processes of Nuremberg were a good idea. But in that Tribunal as judges, for example, was the USSR...which committed similar atrocities ¡¡¡ It was not perfect.

Who committed these crimes are only that, criminals, but not honorable soldiers. They should have been prosecuted as in Nuremberg.
Of course, the attack on Pearl Harbour was another crime, but much more "innocent" than this one. No acceptable comparison at all.

Do you realize that new found documents have been found that Japan was virtually weeks away from making their own bomb. I think there is a show about it on one of the history or military channel as well.
If the U.S. has waited to use the bomb and decided to invade, Japan would have developed and used their own bomb which then would've meant an atomic war. Who could build the most bombs the quickest to destroy the other.

Of what use would Hitler's advisors or followers have been to the Third Reich after they surrendered in May 1945? Honest to God I have no idea what you're talking about and I don't think you do either. Germany started losing the war when the Eastern front fell, which was way back in '42. Germany surrendered in May '45, Japan surrendered in August '45. May comes before August, I hope you realise that. Summa summarum, Germany surrendered before Japan - Hitler was already on the verge of losing long before that. Please stop posting nonsensical comments...

They were not ready to give up, nothing was going to change minds of those wanted to fight to the end. It took the Emperor feeling that the war had to stop. Lets see, he rushed to make that radio broadcast because either the Russians were across a big sea in Manchuria, or because the second bomb had been dropped with who knows how many more coming (prior to that some Japanese leaders thought we only had one bomb, they had a fission program themselves). Duh, right, it was the Russians.

It's not so much that I like Americans-more a case of having a strong dislike for savagely cruel Japanese who carried out the most heinous acts of cruelty against Chinese, Koreans civilians,& British & Commonwealth POW's. Japan received her just deserts. Instead of whinging about it, just stop and think about the behaviour of the Japs in WW2. By the way, I served as a British soldier-so I wouldn't hesitate to drop an A bomb on Japan if it saved 1 million+ British & US lives. GET SOME!

We are the farthest thing from cowards. just beacsue we have the largest nuclear capability doesn't make us cowards. We have helped many countries in the past that we didn't even need to, and if it weren't for us cancelling out Russia's nuclear cpability, imagine what would have already happened. Look, I'm not proud of what my country did in Japan, and I'm not proud of our nuclear capability now, but what would have happened if we had to invade Japan, posibly more lives lost on both sides.

a large part of my background is russian so i try to defend russia whenever possible. but if all russians are as wrong as you are about russia being able to wipe out the US, it makes me wish that we had dropped the a-bomb, or maybe even the h-bomb on russia during the cold war. and just an FYI, i think i speak for all of America when i say that we are not afraid of russia. and we shouldn't be.

All natiosn helped in hand, if Britain, Russia and Australia had fallen, then the US was fucked, Roosevelt would either have allied themselves with Hitler or done nothing to risk his nation goin to war. But i still beleive the key nation that helped win the war was.....the Russians, they were the ones who lsot 20 million at stalingrad, and took Berlin. As an Australian, i have up msot respect for all teh US servicemen, without them there is no doubt Austrlaia would have had to another remeberence day that involves us mourning teh millions brutally executed by the Japanese on my homesoil. 3rdly the British really did nothing to aid us, yes their hands were tied in Europe and Africa that is very understandable.
