  • Great tut, Thanks for showing the back and how you hooked it up.

  • Dude... Thanks

  • good tutorial, but why did you use the spider audio merger/splitter?

  • so unfortunately, the problem ive run into is when after loading the sample, any other note other than the base trigger key sounds higher/speedup or lower/speed down in pitch and tempo. I originally had to split up the sample audio according to each individual note change. Is there anyway to sustain a constant sample file without getting the tempo/pitch change??

  • Hiii!... Thanks for the great video,... Just one question... what patch of the subtractor did you used for obtaining that fat great sound...

    thanx again

  • @KlandestinoRec i did the sound on my own. right-click on the subtractor and choose initialize patch and then try to follow what i do on the video. I know it's hard since the video quality sucks and i do it kind of fast. sorry

  • sure reason version 4 is great. did the tutorial when it wasnt out yet

  • This is very helpful. My only question is: How did you make your audio file into an .smp file so you can use it in the NN-19?? i have samples in .wav format and no Reason devices can use that. thanks

  • thanks! i didnt make my audio file into an .smp-file. you can load wav-files to the nn19, you just have to push the "load sample"-button and not the "load patch"... good luck

  • when patching the cables at the back, what do you do to auto complete the left and right at the same time? also, what are the basic keyboard shortcuts to play, stop, start at beginning etc?

    great stuff :)

  • starting and stopping is the space button. i also use ctrl+c and ctrl+v a lot (copy and paste)... you can also use the control key when moving a note to copy it

  • connecting the left cable should automatically connect the right

  • Thanks the vid was great help.

  • hi! is there any way to get your voice sample onto reason without recycle? i don't have it, and i cant buy it right now.

  • Yep. use the sound recorder that comes with windows. if ur using xp, its: Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment>Sound Recorder. Then use whatever computer mic that'll plug into the mic port on the back of ur tower, record ur sound n save it as a .wav file but be sure u save it in the same folder where u save ur reason files. load it in the NN-19 in reason by clicking the browse sample button (not the browse patch) n direct reason to where u saved the file and Viola!

    Hope this helps.

  • great vid !

Sorry, could you give me the preset for the subtractor cuz i cant manage to reproduce such a sound ! :(

  • don't work to me...

  • whats wrong ? one of my splitters doesn't work? ;/ when i press play a lights on both splitters should appear but now i see red lights only on 1 splitter.help :S

  • Wtf...i'm doing everything just like u!exactly!

And still - no results.i hear my default voice...what can be wrong? :S

  • damn..but i dont't understand!

I'm doing everything just like u (following all those steps which u made) and still - no results...I think i'm doing some kind of mistake with vocoder.. /cry

  • 1 question.can someone explain me what is MIDI file?

    Please

  • OMFG! awesome!

But i don't understand how u recorded your voice to reason? :| also idisorientied with those wires

    still awesome

  • the part how you connect the stuff is a bit too fast for me to follow :-s

  • thats pretty rad, itle be good if you showed us a little slower, but that is pretty nice

  • Thanks man, works great !!!

  • Nice video keep up the good work.

  • which instrument do you recomend to use as your carrier input because i haven't found one thats just right yet. thanks

  • depends on what kind of vocoder sound you want. i prefer to use the subtractor-synth. If you want a daft-punk kind of sound, use sawtooth waves and play with low notes. you can try different bass-patches or if you want the kind of sound that you can hear in this video, try some of the pad-patches.

  • Unbelievable!

I have thought that the limits of reason are in voice modulation, but with this video you have proved the contrary.

reason is multi functional but it is a pity that you are not able to automate pitch of tracks in the sequencer... normally it is basic...

  • yeah I agree, that´s a shame

  • for a second i thought you were running that in windows 98.

  • Hey, so i understand your whole video and everything but the only thing i don't understand is how you got your vioce into reason. Because as far as i know you can't record your own vioce directly in the program and i am pretty sure you can't put wavs of your own vioce in the program either. So this would be very helpful for me so that i could actually do what you did.

  • Hi! That is correct, you can´t record your own voice directly into reason. But yes you can put wave-files of your own voice in the program, that´s what i do in the video.

Right click on the NN-19, choose "initialize patch". Then click on the "browse sample" button (NOT the "browse patch" button) and load up your wave. Good luck!

  • you can load any WAV file into the sampler. have a play around unti you do

  • thanks alot man... this is bangin

  • thanks a lot for this video! great effect!

  • Awesome!:) nice video - i googled for "Reason vocoder" to find just this ;) - i'll probably message you after about it :) thanks. 5 stars.

  • Do I need to choose an instrument in Substractor?

  • You can choose an instrument if you want but I prefer to make my own. Try to follow how I change the setup of the subtractor and do the same. Send me a message if you still can´t figure it out.

  • Hi! I did exactly what you did on that video and it does not seem to be working :o((( My voice does not change... :o(

  • I use Reason 4 for making vocal trance music.. and i want to make a song using a vocoder, but i cant figure out how to maintain the actual words themselves.. basically, its turned into a nice instrument, and you cant understand the individual words.. do you have any idea of what i can do?

  • there are a lot of parameters to keep track of. but first of all, set the vocoder to FFT (512) on the band count knob and set the decay knob to zero. now work with the carrier. if you want a daft punk kind of sound, use low notes and just one at the time (set polyphony to 1). make sure amp env sustain is at 127, use sawtooth and square waveforms and high frequencies on the filter. send me a message if you still can´t make the sound you´re after

  • I don't even bother with the vocoder in reason. but good job, reason is way underrated still.

  • i done everything u done and my voice is still coming out the same

  • all right, send me a pm with a description of your set-up (how you have plugged up your devices and so on), maybe i can help you

  • haaa i like the chordss here

  • Thankyou so much!!! much much simpler than the way my Music Tech Tutor showed me haha!!!

  • Good ol' Reason 3.0.....I miss it so much I fucking hate 4.0!

  • You do? Reason 4 takes some getting used to but when you do it´s actually kind of neat!

  • My opinion is that reason 4.0 is 200 times better ;)

  • you can use a rex file as well. you can create really cool effects if you use ReCycle (also a program from propellerheads) to make a rex-file from your audio sample and then use the DrRex as the modulator. good luck! :)

  • Thanks! I learned alot :)

  • Holy SHIT you're geek. Love it, thanks

  • Hey man , thanks for makin' it easy. Peace from Australia.

  • mate i really love you for posting this video lol GOD BLESS YOU, your the reason my music is gna change

  • you just opened up a whole new world for my music!:)

  • Can you help me a bit actually..

I imported my .wav file into the sampler,

but when i go to the Sequencer and press

the C3 note, it plays.. a weird organ sound

and not my sample.. Whats wrong?

  • when you open the nn19, right click on it, choose "initialize patch" to reset the sampler. after that, try to import the wav file by clicking "browse sample"

  • Thank you so much.. wow.. !!!!!!!!! YAY!

  • you sound Scandanavian..? Like Norwegian..

    But GREAT video!

  • what version of reason is used in this video?

  • reason 3

  • Damn man. I can't tell you how many hours i sat in front of the vooder baffled , moving knobs and such. Unfortunately I don't have access to the help menu online so i was stuck until now. You rock and helped me out tremendously on a track thanks man. YOU ROCK!

  • word man! this is awsome...im in a hardcore metal band and we were messin with synth sounds....and this is gonna help me out...!!

  • cool! rock on dude!

    ;)

  • Above the keyboard in the NN-19 there's another browse icon. That's for samples and it lets you open audio samples.

  • Thanks much!

  • Unsded to use reason 3.o use reason 4.o its more bigger and fater sound with thor :>)

and to make the sounds a little bit cleaner with reverb and maximizer or compression

  • reason 4 is amazing, no doubt! but when i made the video reason 4 was not out yet :/..

  • THANK U VERY MUCH !!!

  • this was to fast but i got it. slow down next time and thx =D

  • geatfull thanks for good qualli

  • I tried doin the same exact thing you did hear but I cant hear any audio when I press a key on my keyboard from the modulator or the carrier. I uploaded an NNXT and uploaded a patch and banged a couple of keys and it works just fine, so its not my interface. Does the NNXT have to be a certain format? or wut do you think I did wrong?

  • I think it's because you didn't draw the line at 00:30 so that it actually plays the audio sample. This is the first time I used Reason so I didn't do that step because I didn't think it was needed. I'm used to Cubase so I didn't even notice it was important.

  • do u think cubase is a better software to use m8? im producing hardcore, gabber

  • reason is absolutely perfect for producing hardcore/gabber

  • THANK YOU A FUCKTONLOTS!!!!!!!

your tutorial was so very helpfull, i was trying to use vocoder for day and half now, dude, you have my gratitude and respect.

  • Thank you :-) Awesome

  • This was very helpful but way too fast. I had to keep pausing it to catch up.

  • Video doesn't really explain much as far as rewiring. can't really see much either. looks good tho

  • hey cheers really helped alot :)

    thankyou

maybe next tiem you could explain the differnt nobs and stuff a bit more or zoom in futher but its was relaly helpfull thankyou

  • nice tutorial however a little to fast for a beginner like myself

  • Nice demo mang.

  • thanks alot bro i've been trying to do that for the longest time

  • cool cool, always loved vocoding in electronic music, and now im abel to do it myself! :D thanks for this easy and quick tut. mate:)

  • Hello Thakz for this Video Greetings from Berlin / Germany Reasonboon Bernd

  • dude i know this sounds retarded but im new to reason - how do i record like off a microphone etc?

  • actually you can´t record audio in reason =(. i recorded my voice with wavelab (you can use any recording software) and then loaded in the wav-file to the nn-19 sampler. good luck!

  • thats fucking awesome dude im downloading reason even now

  • awesome,thx
