I have some questions...I have a canon scoopic and a CP-16. Both take 72mm filters. The canon scoopic is a 12.5-75mm zoom lens and the CP-16 has a 12-120mm zoom lens. What anamorphic adapter would you recommend for these cameras and how much vignetting would there be? Thanks so much for your excellent test!
On a complete wim I've decided to learn about aspect ratios and resolutions and got onto anamorphic and 2.39:1 etc. Upon youtubing various criteria I stumbled upon some of the most beautiful footage I've ever seen.
Looks gorgeous. I wouldn't bother colour-correcting this because that retro/washed-out look is very stylish. Beautiful camera too, you're one lucky dude, dude! :o)
@rikmills thanks. Yeah Im not a big fan of color-correcting and the DI process. I mean those techniques certainly have their place, but the mentality that it is mandatory in every film now just homogenizes films.
i realy love to research and watch good short films and i can assure that this one is true talent.i'm looking forward to watch his new works! write "Good bye Brian!" and watch !!
good work, by the way, WHAT KIND OF ADAPTER did you use to attach the ishico Proskar lense to the standard arri 50mm lense mounted on the arri 16st ? I notice that you took advantage of the matte box rod to hold this adapter. Thanks
What film stock was this? From its yield, it would be great to use it as a "dream" or "nightmare" sequence or maybe even a flashback scene. Great stuff though. The anamorphic was a better choice. I like wide shots.
How you focus a camera with an anamorphic 2x lens in front of another lens? Is the first lens set to infinity focus and then you focus the anamorphic? The fstops are controlled with the actual lens iris not the anamorphic right? Thanks
Yes it is tricky. You have to focus both lenes - the normal lens AND the anamorphic. You are dealing with 2 lens which means 2 different depths of field. And yes the f stops are controlled with the normal lens, not the anamorphic.
You should really consider taking this footage to an actual
telecine it will make a huge difference, also if your looking for better quality in footage instead of reversal try a color negative film. I personally use a fuji color negative.
Thanks. I currently have anamorphic film being transferred at Postworks in NYC. If you view my music video "EVERYDAY", I shot the entire thing with Kodak negative 7212. But it is not anamorphic.
If you do view the music video, watch it in high quality mode.
Love it. I used this camera in two of my films but not anamorphic while I was a student. They are posted on my page. I love the look of this film and the music amazing. Non Sync Camera so no Dialogue. Good Job.
With regards to using the ancient film stock; how many F-stops did you over-expose whilst shooting? Ive got a couple of thousand feet of out of date fuji F-500 to play with and was wondering about the best way of putting it to use.
Today, Nov. 25, 2008, YouTube switched to widescreen, creating a mess of windowboxed videos. Could you re-post this, or something similar, to demonstrate how it looks in a widescreen window? Thanks!
amazing i just love how it has those reel old type of blue green tinge to it how do i get into film making im 14 and really love 16mm don't know how to use em what type of camera is this?? where do i learn
Hey, if you want to get into film making, I would recommend that you get your hands on a super 8mm camera. Super 8 is a great introduction to film. Not too expensive either. You should be able to get a three minute reel for £15 ($30), which usually includes processing. Some companies will telecine super 8. This means digitally scanning the film so that you can edit on the computer. Once you've had some fun with a super 8, I would suggest stepping up to a Bolex H16. Learn to walk first though :)
I've never tried to create a flicker effect in post. Bt Im sure there is a way. The flicker you see in my anamorphic test is the result of the non-professionl transfer method; the shutter of the video camera and the film projector are not in sync.
I wrote in the video how I did the transfer. A professional transfer is done at a post-production facility with high quality precision computers and scanners. The film is scanned and the image is converted into a video signal. It can get expensive which is one reason why many people resort to shooting video nowadays.
I am the very erotic lady, who just wants to make your day brighter and may be a little happier, to give you the sunshine of my look and positive energy of my love..So cute girl awaiting you to share an unforgattable pleasure;) come visit me at _ Play-Cam(.COM) _ my user-id there is Gabriella-ljol chat soon on cam :)
Did you build your scope? or you find it and adapted can you give us more info on this scope thank you! I will shoot a film in 16mm and I hear that if I do it anamorphic I can blow it up to 35mm without frame lost. You know about this. Thanks!
Hi..I remember Eric Cable Sr. in Vancouver doing anamorphic on his 16mm Bolex and CP16 in 1965 or so. I think the lens was 10mm...looked GREAT...so do 16mm and shoot at 60 FPS! that will give you ideal transfer for 1080P. Also, the color depth is dramatic....Bring more lights!
Yes. Then in post production, you can either mount the very same lens in front of a projector and just rotate the anamorphic lens so that the horizontal image is unsqueezed, extending the frame. but the vertical remains the same. Or with video, you can alter the horizontal image in programs like Final Cut pro, Avid, Adobe Premiere, etc.
It's a pleasure to see someone that just posts a good old film with interesting views. It's obvious you just enjoy experimenting. I've done the same over the years. Some of the best things ever filmed were by people just playing around. Thanks for the short and enjoyable clips. Well done.
Well said! I agree completely. Everyone is so thrilled about digital and thier ridiculous DOF converters, and trying to get digital to look like film. Well then, shoot FILM! I fondly remember shooting this brown man beating his wife that I stumbled upon one day. Pretty ordinary stuff really. But on film, it was a majestic beating! I set it to music, and it was a ballet of violence. Filmmakers, if you should happen across such lovely things, do take out your cameras, wont you?
Professional? Well thats debatable. It certainly isnt a professional transfer. But if you mean by my overall presentation...thanks. I didnt expect all the appreciation it has recieved. I cant believe its been a year since I shot it. I gotta continue the work. I need to get off my ass.

How much did you pick up the Arri 16s for? Do you own it or is it rented?
I saw a few on eBay but they go fast. I'd really like one if I could afford processing and scanning costs.
Just wondering about the telecine also. Is that direct projection into a video camera or bounced off a screen?
I was thinking of picking up a Krasnogorsk-3 perhaps and trying out some 16mm. Not so convinced that it's the best entry into film I could take.
