If the active companies founded by MIT graduates formed an independent nation, their revenues would make that nation at least the 17th-largest economy in the world...
I know right? Im a fucking freshman in high school, and I already knew this! How do they get into MIT FOR courses like this if they don't know this calculus??
@XxBrian88xX I agree. I have watched this series up to this point and though I can't say that he is not trying or is incorrect...nevertheless his treatment of the material is just too pedantic and never addresses the real issues. This is especially apparent when he tries to answer questions from the students he seems to skirt the real stumbling blocks. Combined with his twitchy mannerisms makes it hard to follow. It's instruction like this that turned me off of math throughout my schooling.
@Hotboiruben2 not all high schools have classes that teach calculus, it would be unfair for MIT to reject people that are really smart and motivated just because they went to a bad high school. Seriously, its the 15th lecture get over it by now, and maybe pay attention to the material.
Mr. Jerison. You are excellent teacher. You care and try to explain. you evidently do your best! I wish all teachers were like you. You are really a pro! Regards.
I've been preparing for college in Italy for a couple months now with the official books and I can't help noticing one fundamental difference between the american and the european teaching philosophy: americans appeal to your common sense to make learning easy and fun, while europeans try to make it as formal and meticulous as possible so that you get used to working your ass off.
Regarding the integral starting at 30:30 [ x^3(x^4 + 2)^5 ]:
The simplest answer Mathematica gives is 8x^4 + 10x^8 + (20x^12)/3 + (5x^16)/2 + x^20/2 + x^24/24. If you expand 1/24 (x^4+ 2)^6 (professor's answer), you get the same thing PLUS a constant of integration of 8/3. While this part looks wrong, whatever constant you add can cancel this 8/3 so it works fine.
It's disappointing to know that you still need a brain to make some solutions look their shiniest.
i dont know what the cameraman was thinking. its a video so whoever is taking notes on it can pause to copy down the stuff on the board but no, the cameraman has to stay on the board for like 10 seconds while the professor lectures on about something else on the board.
TOO GOOD TO EXCELLENT hope continue to expand this project UNIVERSITIES AND MORE QUALIFIED TEACHERS as those imparting the knowledge BUT PLEASE BE TRANSLATED TO ALL WHO CAME TO THE WORLD! EXCELLENT!
@ryecheese999 LMAO, this is MIT. Not a piece of shit community college haha. The reason why he seems like "he doesn't give a shit" is because as you can see from these lectures he has an EXTENSIVE amount of material ro present in a short-period of time. ALSO, he has a class of 200+ students. Therefore, he needs to move quickly and does not have time for a lot of questions/stalling time. That is what OFFICE HOURS are for!
@JG12234 first off, you pretty much learn the same thing in calculus so it really doesnt matter what school you go to. second, i am aware that is alot to cover. this guy helps me alot so im not insulting him
Camera guy if you're reading this, please keep camera on the board and stop following the professor unless he is physically making demonstration
