  • Zach Galifianakis sighting @ 0:45 =O!

  • One day, my dad took my phone and was saying all this, and so much more to my bestfriend. O.o

  • Herman reminds me of me Mitt Romney.

  • Hermie's ponderings show the abstruse nature of then current avant-garde/dadaesque elements obtaining in verse

  • yo brother chill, don't be hatin herman cause he was a sell out to the man!

  • go hermy

  • this nigga illiterate! read a book!!!!

  • I love literature he he he

  • Too bad he turned out to be such a bitter brother for being typecast as Hermie baby , he was born for this roll,no one else could have pulled this off.Kinda wrecks it when you finally hear what they were like really, and they are almost apologetic

    & can't distance themselves enough,like most of the Brady's.

  • if herman was around in 2011 he could also bullshit his way into pretentious psudoartists in williamburg brooklyn doing just this also

  • "Man, that cat is deep", was none other than Mr. Dennis Hopper!

  • @lisaamusic1 No it wasn't.

  • @lisaamusic1

No, he was played by Zalman King. You may know him better as the director of "The Red Shoe Diaries" TV movie. He also directed some of the episodes of the show by the same name.

  • "Maaaaan...that cat is DEEP!" "

  • ((Correction to a misspelling, sorry!)) "LiFe is real, LiFe is ernest. If you're cold, turn up the furnace. Eh, I, I thank you."

  • Lily: "Oh dear, I think he's going to recite!" Herman: "Ibbedy bibbedy, sibbedy sab. Ibbediy bibbedy canal boat. Dictonary down the ferry. Mary, Mary quite contrary. Ehm..

Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy lost his hair. Scooba doo and scooba dye. That's chicken's not too young to fry. Live is real, live is ernest. If you're cold, turn up the furnace. Eh, I, I thank you."

  • Eddie (at the hotel): "Hey mom, can I go out and walk around the ledge?" Lily: "Oh no, no, Eddie, you might fall off and hurt somebody." Lily: [listening to The Standells perform] "You know Herman, they do have a certain... style." Herman: "Yes, they are rather razzmatazz!"

  • LOL@ Marilyn: "In all the years that we've lived here, I can't recall more than 8 or 9 people ever getting past the front door.", Grandpa: "What would the neighbors say if they saw a bunch of strange looking people living in our home?" Eddie: "Mom, if we do rent the place, can I use some of the money to buy Spot a new toy?" Lily: "Oh Eddie, we gave him a foreign sports car for Christmas, he played with it a couple of times, and then he threw over the back fence."

  • LOL@ "Let's hear from the jolly green giant!"

  • Very funny clip from the classic series, and most appreciated. It seems like many series of the era had a beatnick episode or two. I agree that channels like Nick at Night and TV Land show too many crappy shows. Everybody Loves Raymond? I don't! THE MUNSTERS will live forever and newr shows will fade. I posted a short intervioew with Butch Patrick i think you'd enjoy (SEE: butch patrick at the capri). The event took place at a drive in theater.

  • As of June 22, 2011, 9 members of Westboro Baptist Church have viewed this video.

  • I love the Munsters. When Nick at Nite used to play classics and not crap I used to watch this show when I was very young. Awesome classic show and needs to find a home on station dedicated to classic shows just like this!

  • ''life is real, life is ernest, if youre cold, turn up the furnace''

words we can all live by :')

  • One of the best Beat moments on T.V. !

Guy Lombardo's back in town !

  • Herman was the man. LOL

  • Ibbity bibbity canal boat.

  • Hermie is my male role model.

  • love it

  • the canned laughter is terrible.. but his lines are awesome

  • @beasst94

I don't like the canned laighter either.

  • Life is real life is earnest if your cold turn up the furnace.

  • It's good to see some people like old TV shows, most are rubbish...

but did 70 episodes. so uncle herman told me.

  • @frankenstien53 DID YOU SEE THE GOOGIE EPISODE when herman saw the frankinstein toy and thought it was his baby ????the best evr!!!!

  • hipsters

  • I love the stoner who says, "Man, that cat is DEEP !"

  • what bullshit. the staid and reactionary mind-sucking television machine loved mocking the beats in the early 60's because america FEARED them. little did they know, it was about to get a whole LOT scarier. hahaha!

  • @danielvlee - Chuck Workman's excellent documentary "The Source" shows how the Beats became one of the most influential artistic movements ever. And yes the ruling-class feared and hated them. But the art and ideas behind the Beats were too interesting and exciting to stop and the "squares" had no alternative that could even come close to competing.

  • this pogram aired in 2006 and i was 7 when it aired again and i used to ALWAYS watch this while eating my tuna sandwich before going to the reading club *thinkss back* those were the days! I USED TO CRY IF I MISSED IT AND I WOULD SIT RIGHT UP TO THE TV!!! PLZ AIR MONSTERS AGAIN!!!!

  • @vampirechick233 So you're only 11?

  • @bugstrut yup

  • which episode is this from?

  • This is one of my favorite episodes.

  • herman played athletic sports, including baseball and golf and basketball, whereas grandpa liked playing checkers with an unseen opponent. what a difference!!

  • Cool, daddy-o.

  • yeah lilly munster is hot

  • God I loved this show growing up in the 60's. It works on so many different levels it's, ah, scary...lol.

  • Herman is the "Man".

  • guys, please explain to me what "man, this cat is deep" means.. english is not my mothertongue and i would loove to understand the ambiguousness of that line. thanx a lot !

  • @babskaudelka the term "cat" was used by some people as a slang term that meant "person", and it was often used in a nice way. the word "deep" would have meant "deep-thinker" or "having a lot of importance or wisdom". thus, "this cat is deep" would mean something like "this man is a great thinker" or "this man has a lot of wisdom."

  • Herman the Hipster.

  • i wonder whether there is anyone who prefers "the munsters today" to the original munsters series. even john schuck likely preferred the original, even if he wouldn't admit to it. if someone prefers "the munsters today", it's likely someone who has seen hardly any of the original series. i can't imagine what it would be like to see "the munsters today" without already being very familiar with the original series. nevertheless, john schuck was good in some other shows.

  • @coventrygardens

Yeah, I'll have to admit, I refuse to watch The Munsters Today. It's just nothing compared to the original.

Schuck was probably good in other roles (I don't know much about him) but he just couldn't do Herman like Gwynne did.

  • @AngelNicholson you might be too young to recall john schuck in his other roles. in 1970s, he played as enright on "mcmillan and wife" and played as yo-yo on "holmes and yo-yo". i watched those shows when i was a kid in the 1970s. i haven't seen those shows in many years.

------------ the notion of the munsters being asleep for 20 years and then trying to get adjusted to the changes made the show freakish, and it was a bad kind of freakishness. it didn't fit in well with the original story.

  • YES!

    YES YES!!!!!!! Classic!

  • That was pretty darn funny. Thanks for that post.

  • what the fuck does beatnik mean?

  • @GianTheMan91 - Kerouac came up with the phrase "Beat generation". In his mind he was connecting it to beatific, being beat down by 1950's conformity etc. The beats were an big threat to the conservative power group at that time so they tried their best to marginalize the beats. Beatnik was a pejorative name derived from sputnik.

  • spittin' image of gary neville.

  • Haiku Herman.

  • Herman's a man amongst mice. a true pimp.

  • hahahaha... cute!

  • Kerouac's got nothin' on Herman

  • I miss those days when TV had a nearly dadaesque sense of humor. All those cheesy high-concept sitcoms had an early postmodern whim that today's comedy writers can only echo. It was the times... the "youth" culture and all that, when even music meant something and professional sports were still primarily a game and not a big (drug) business. Wow, do I ever digress, though...

  • Dig it, kids of "Now-a-Days"...Holy Shit, in a few more months you won't be able to Think Straight, ... thanks to your new "change" leader, Obama.......

  • better lyrics than almost any top 100 songs nowadays

  • oh yea this one was cool a keeper , you have to see the whole thing many of you are to young to get what was funny at the time now days all we have is shit crappy rap and stupid sitcoms , at least for right now maybe the human race will get there shit together -? breaking bad is cool not to much rap and make's for a good point look um over there's going to be another season comming up in march i think but look at the 1st one's an see...

  • "Fussy Wussy Was a Bear"!!! LOL!!!!

  • this might be about the 20th time i have looked at this video. it's still amusing. intros to the munsters tv show were unusual because it seems that they pointed the movie camera at one location while each castmember came into that location as if it were a continuous scene from an episode. other tv intros ( including the munsters today ) generally show a bunch of separate scenes at different locations. yea, that cat is deep.

  • Hahaha, Herman Munster the beat poet! How cool!

  • the beatnik chick looks like a young Julie Newmar. (?)

  • Comment removed

  • Isn't this the episode where a rock band invades the Munsters' house and starts playing the show theme... or did I dream that?

  • A bitingly satirical take on the hipster generation by one of the foremost social commentators ever to appear in the munsters.

  • "Man, that cat is DEEP!" LMAO Best. Line. Ever.

  • *snap fingers*

  • i love this one!! :D

haha best show there ever was!

  • its first time that i see it and is pretty cool

  • Ibbity bibbity canal boat.

  • Yeah those beats are a riot. what a pity the hippies had to come along and spoil the party. I think it was Jack Kerouac. He wrote Rabbit redux. There's a line in a Pink Floyd song that refers to it.

  • true the beats were cool...show up at your house and freeload for a month or 2...daddio

  • Herman Munster, one of the greatest Americans of all time.

  • He should have been President

  • This one was the "vitameatavegamin" of Munsters episodes!

  • man- that cat is deep!

  • Mr. Zimmerman should have changed it to Bob Herman....

  • Herman Ghinsburgh! ~cg5

  • That cat is squaresville daddy-o.

  • I think that guy at the end is Zalman King.

  • Godfrey Daniel, I believe you are correct.

  • Ginsberg, Kerouac, Herman

  • Outtta - Sight!!! Thanks for the post!

  • coolsville daddy-o

  • when i was a kid, i heard "fuzzy wuzzy was a bear. fuzzy wuzzy had no hair." i like herman's version better : "fuzzy wuzzy was a bear. fuzzy wuzzy lost his hair." for some reason i always imagined herman having a grayish color, yet he was the jolly green giant.

  • Thank you so much for posting this because that piece of fucking SHIT TVLand...(so they could fit in just a little bit more of their BULLSHIT self-promo)cut out from :49-1:01. I HATE THOSE FUCKING ASSHOLES!!In fact, those greedy shitheels cut out EIGHT fucking minutes out of every episode! When these shows originally aired, they had ONE thirty second ad at the beginning, one in the middle, and that was ALL!!

Yeah, tv has reeeeeeally fucking progressed hasnt it..Money-grabbing greedy motherfuckers

  • Yvonne DeCarlo in great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition)! Get the bio at amazon!

  • EddySwass is too ignorant to realize that the Vietnamese are not 'nips'. Nip is short for Nipponese. Nippon is Japan.

  • hmmmmmmmmmm... no wonder I got booed off the stage lastnight when I tried reciting that piece in Monterey Park ;O>

  • Herman, truly is a classique! ;0)

  • sooba doo and scooba die that chicken's not to young to fry lmao

  • Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear.

    Fuzzy Wuzz lost his hair!

    genius!!!

  • What talent. truely this is the best.If Eddy Swass says it's the best then you can count on it being the bomb! Just remember....if you aint down with Eddy Swass then you be a victim of Sweddy Ass.

  • I remember watching this ep and thinking that the chick in the crowd with the "eyepatch" shades was kinda creepy but really cool!

This is one of my fave Munster moments...

Long live the Jolly Green Giant!!!

  • Great stuff! I love the Munsters. Hermy baby's a cool cat!

  • Talk about getting a jolt from his electrodes, farout man.

  • Monkey acrobats, and Pig gymnists...what do these have in common?

One have the brains, and the other have the LARD.

    OMLETTE.

  • That cat is deep!

  • i'll try to come up with some beat poetry of my own------- pigs with wings. moon flying by. birch trees with teeth. confusion situation. anger anger anger. see you later, elevator.

  • this show is amazing

  • there aint no shows like this anymore.the munsters were cool.better than adams family.scooba doo scooba die.

  • my uncle herman totally inspired me to be a beatnik poet & i AM sure insane in me membrane more than ever.... snappin' my bloody fingers & tappin' my green toes NOW daddiooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

    ahhhoooooooooooooooooooo, count johNUTTY :):):)

  • Anyone noticed how much Herman Munster looks like John Kerry?

  • Can we have the clip of the jesus looking guy talking about lifes a gas,and lifes a grabber?

  • Like,I dug this when i was a kid.

Like,it made me zoom, like, to the moon.

    Cats.

  • I like the episodes when Herman didn't win the Father of Year contest, and when he tried out for LA Dodgers! Classic comedy! Loved this show as a kid, and still do as an adult!! Yea for TV land!

  • Herman's poetry is just as good as all the pretentious, spoken word/slam nonsense that people do.

  • like wow man!!!That cat is deep!!!!Let,s hear it for the jolly green giant!!!If your cold turn up the furnace!!!!

  • go herman

  • Lets see Ginsberg beat this!

  • He can't, lol! =D

  • This was classic real comedy at its best esp the hippie who said guy lambardo is back in town, I often think the writers were on a LSD trip when they wrote those one liners, I also know the STANDELLS were a real rock group, but the playing was fake just like in the partridge family, but i still love UNCLE HERMAN AND ALL OF THEM.

  • the Standells were fake? that's news to me. Animal Girl was fake

    ?

  • Thanks for posting this. What is the name of this episode?

  • The name of this episode was "Far Out Munsters" which aired in March of 1965.The Standells which was an actual group did have a big hit in 1966 called "Dirty Water" Why in the hell the writers chose to have them lip sink to a song called "Do The Ringo" who knows but it was that kind of good wholesome yet strange kind of comedy that made the Munsters one of the best shows to watch at night from 64 to 66 regardless if you were 8 or 80.Fred Gwynne;Al Lewis and Yvonne DeCarlo are all sadly missed...

  • Thanks for all the information! I watched it starting in 64, then in re-runs for several more years. Great show: 70% of today's TV writers can't write this kind of quality(and they want more money? Who do they think they are Mel Brooks & Buck Henry?!). I miss the cast members, such talent!!

  • The Munsters were keeping up with the times, there were other shows during this era that had the same kind of episode like this one Star Trek and Gilligan's Island (The Mosquitos).

  • I love the Munsters and this is not stupid ! I think it is a great show , I love Lily and Herman and grandpa!

  • Now that was funny woman, brilliant.

  • retarded?? Well if you did not grow up during the 60's and early 70's, yes you might think this was retarded. But this was how it was, and it is a brilliant parody and homage to that era.

  • funny song

  • Well,he ain't no Kate Smith. Guy Lombardo is back in town!

  • Fred Gwynne was a comic genius in this role --this is comedy gold. Does anyone have a clip of Herman doing magic at the school talent show? Awesome.

  • man , that cat is deep

  • bloody fab!!!

  • Fake

  • Musters kills Adams Family - no comparision!

  • i can dig it

  • Are you bored or something?

  • I would give up a nut to have Fred G's voice, but that would defeat the purpose.

  • Now, this is another Munster classic. The 60's rock group called the Standells are in this and they really rock to the hilt. Herman really knows how to come up with some very hilarious lines and he of all people is the center of attention. I love him and his ways on that show. Herman, you rock dude.

  • Man, that cat is deep!!

  • dig it, man: the Munsters and the Standells AND some foney-baloney beatniks!! How you gonna beat it, baby?

  • If your cold turn up the furnace. Boy that cat is deep.
