  • BLACK PEOPLE FOR LIFE <3<3<3 !!!

  • we're grateful to Tuareg people for whatever they do to keep their race and existance. they are almost the last legend of amazigh people in north africa.. I don't know why the disciplines in the area never even mention some of the real suffering of people..why they want to destroy amazigh civilization and bury it? U.N. destryed Irak pretending it has nuclear, and MAY be(just may be) it's dangerous about the sorrounding area!! what about those who destroyed a real human civilization, then?

  • Concentrate on people close to you. These are Africans and they are very proud to be different from other indigenous African people.Enjoy the music and avoid sounding silly by talking about people you don't know by trying to claim them.Africans have different skin tones,it's just that the supremacy Idea keeps creeping up.Even Afro Brazilians know they are different from Africans in the motherland but they are proud Afro Brazilians despite the feature changes due to mixing.Enjoy don't destroy.

  • why black people don't like their color and don't like to be called black !!!!!!!??????? can't get it long time ago.

  • @truthfulfox maybe because we are not the color black. people that live in southern sudan are the closest to being called black. if a person is very light brown why would you call them black. that just like why do you call people white when they are not white. so they made up another name caucasian yet there are hundreds of ethinic groups in europe. the correct term is there term used at least 1500 years ago is to call people from the land they were born and raised in.

  • @krzintegraboi relax...however, I agree with you 100%, the people of southern sudan are the only TRUE black people on the planet. My father is white and I'm mixed and yet people keep saying I am black....???? I'm mixed. I have the color of the Tuareg people as well but I am not Tuareg.

  • I think they sound a little like John Martyn

    Up the Rebels!

  • Originated from Mali, started music in Algeria, inspired from Morrocco, performed in the West. No wonder why music erases all boundaries and unites us all. Jiye Tinariwen!

  • pretty intense to have lived through. Glad the music could comfort them.

  • Guitar for peace.

  • That Issa dude's hardcore: Wearing a winter's jacket in the middle of the desert!

  • @hitl0r I'm originally from the Algerian Sahara and i gotta tell ya.. the winter there is unbelievably cold.. it's not cold like in the Mediterranean or Europe, it's DRY and COLD no rain or humidity but very cold, at night time it can reach freazing point or even less. so i guess it was winter when they conducted that interview

  • By the way this is in Mali, South of Algeria and West of Niger. It is the heart of Tamasheq land (I refuse to call them Touareg because they prefer to call themselves Kel Tamasheq).

  • oui

  • Is he speaking French?

  • @choclatepuppy hi,they speak french bcause mali is colonised by france, but their language is TAMAZIGHT BERBER,THEY ARE TUAREG AND YOU KNOW MORGAN FREEMAN IS ORIGIN TUAREG TOO,

  • Amazing story. I love this music. I can't stand all these stupid opinions, afro-yankee blackie bluie, grow up-shut up and just listen.

  • greetings and support from the UK x

  • What is the name of the intro and "outro" song when hand grabs a barb wire?

  • Je ne suis pas Algérienne (ou Française ni Belgie, Suisse, Canadienne!) mais j'aime la musique de Tinariwen. C'est d'assez!

  • Je suis Algérienne et amazighte MUSULMANE ET ça me suffit.....

  • wellthat man who said who is living in north africa is arab , am telling his better he seeches for better country in arabian gulf , where are arabs , north africa is amazigh.... not for rasict arabs

  • @amazighman2 At this time and state we all need to embrace peace and stop hatred but there are some who don't know Yahweh

  • wow so much misinformation in these comments, how sad for those absorbing them

  • Who cares, we know that Ancient Egypt was black why does it matter? Let's not bring American racism to this video please.

  • I do not mean to offend americans, but these afro-americans who only say bullshit about africa they dont deserve to be called afro-americans, so I call them yankees cause thats what they are

  • Africa is a culture, it is not a race.

There are lots of races in africa, and different cultures.

You yankees are just a bunch of racist, you do not have culture, for so you only look at the color of skin.

We have very ancient history in here, shame on you.

  • a lot of touareg are black because they are mixed with people from mali or niger

  • Alot of berbers are whites because they mixed of europeans.

  • A lot of yankees are racists, because they only look at the color of a person, instead of trying to understand his roots and culture

  • @kheddou I hate to tell you, but that happens all over the world. Racism is not specific to the USA.

  • @rotena25 Yes especially during the roman times...

  • You morons fighting over race on a video made for peace.

    White and black are equal.

  • @NickV801 Too right Nick. Music breaks down barriers. Planet Before Profit.

  • @NickV801

    yup....pretty retarded

  • came across Tinariwen on Bob Harris Saturday Night BBC 2 31/10/09. Wow!

  • Africa for Africans!

  • we all africans,, planet earth for every living thing! let love rule

  • It is inaccurate to bsay that black people were confined to subsaharan africa. Th epeople of sub-saharan only got there relatively recently and their oral histories point to a western and southern migration from eastern and northern Africa. It is also quite evident that The Egyptians were black people. Therefore it is erroneous to say that North-Africans are white.

  • Only a racist white and arab would claim that north africa never had any blacks. What about ancient nubians, tuaregs and all those black tribes. Are whites so blinded by their racism to see the truth.

  • I'm Arab, and I don't deny any of that! Africans were always part of Arab culture, and those who live in the Arab world are Arab themselves!!

  • Kudos to Asian Dub Foundation, they not only rule the world of chillout remix CDs :-), the also fulfill a dramatically needed support for supressed minorities in neglected spaces.

  • I'm Italian, my father in-law is Berber,

my wife is 1/2 Berber, my son is 1/4 Berber.

I love the people, culture, music, food.

    We are blessed.

  • People only talk about race being irrelevant when it pertains to Africa. Is a black man whose ancestors have lived in Germany for hundreds of years considered a European?

  • I am mixed race (black, asian and white) and I love the Amazigh people/culture. The white Amazigh are still Africans in my eyes - and this is coming from a woman of light brown color. I love and respect them. Africa has always been diverse...will always be the most diverse continent in the world from which ALL races/cultures came! The darker Amazigh, i.e. Tinariwen are equally as beautiful.. We need to support the BERBERS!

  • Fact: Africa has always been diverse. The people that are commonly known as black Africans are the biggest native African ethnic group, but they have never been the only group. The Berber people, the Khoisan people and the so-called pygmies are distinctive ethnic groups that have lived in Africa since prehistory. Equating them with recent European or Arabic invaders is completely inaccurate from a historical point of view.

  • for real information thsese singers sing in tamashek(a dialect of tamazight) .they belong to north afrika.

  • When i listen to tinariwen they make me cry...they touch me deeply with the songs cuz i can feel what they feel...long life to tinariwen my berber brothers and sisters who try to keep our roots alife...much love from Europe...thx for sharing!

  • Race schmace, colour schmolour...you are missing the point. This music goes beyond the appropriation of NW Africa/Berbers for whichever race or colour.

  • Mabewa,

I'm sorry, I wanted to say that I AGREE WITH YOU .

    I've pusched the wrong toutch.

  • Dope doc.

  • brilliant . Deep roots

  • i hope you people realise that you're the only ones worried about what color they are...they seemed more concerned with peace maybe all of you should follow that is you really are fans of their music.

  • ok, we're gonna stop all that now, enjoy the music and don't forget to search for truth. Peace.

  • Don't let some westerners fool you, they invented nothing, how can they invent men and women who lived there even before romans and greeks ?

We got still today the same alphabet.

And the white supremacy, I've never seen it.

In my family there are withes and blacks, and in between. We love each other we're happy toghether, we do jokes all the time and we're always laughing. People who are used to physical differences in the same family will not be race supremacist.

  • I want to add one more thing.

Berbers are the only people who not call black people "black".They dont call black people of the south or people of black heritage "black", simply because it's an aesthethic therme, and as they don't look at physical difference, they simply call black africans of southern states "gnawa" "gannaw" which means "someone who speaks a language I don't understand", or "somoeone who can't speak",

See? We don't even know the meaning of the word "Race".

  • Are you sure? I was arguing with a "white" Berber who talks about how white and European he and his people are and he readily called Africans blacks and even worse..! Migrations happened of course, but migrations and invasions are different. Invasions consist of people coming in and asserting their control over others. I believe rock paintings display these "whites" coming into N Africa. Greek went all over, so taking a coastal area is what it is. Blacks are natives to Africa, others as not

  • Regardless of how you racially classify them, the Berber people are the native people of NW Africa and have been there as long as historical records exist.

    Oh yeah, Tinariwen rules!

  • exactly, it is not your skin that makes you an african, it's your heart and your values

  • Being mixed doesn't preclude one from having a unique identity. The west-Indian people are of mixed ancestry as are the Greeks, Portuguese and Spanish but that has not prevented them from having a unique identity. If anything it blessed them with a rich identity.

  • everybody is mixed! EVERYBODY!

  • im not mixed pure nigerian and proud.

  • Tuareg are not mixed people they have their own identity. This African people are people that come from north Africa and part of sahel area of Africa. They are not Arab. If you called Tamazeg an Arab he will stab you to death. Because Arab is an invader in North Africa. Taureg or Tamazeg were indigeneous tribe of North Africa to part of Andalusia in spain for thousands of years before Arab conquer north Africa in seven century, the coming of islam in the continent. Africa has many faces

  • This is nonsense those whites of North africa are the descendants of migrants from the middle east and europe. The genetic data will prove this. They also have African ancestry as well though this is not always evident in their skin tone etc. The sad fact is that those beople reject their black ancestry and yet they want to be considered africans. If they reject us we reject them and its as simple as that.

  • Ce sont nos cousins domage que nous les aidons pas

  • It goes to show that Libay talks African unity on the one hand, but keeps causing racial strife on the other hand. These people have that African soul, even if they are mixed.

  • ? These guys are not mixed, they're called Tamashek. They have their own cultural identity and language.

  • Not mixed? Did you see the scene in the tent with the different types of females? The main guy is clearly mixed. Don't act like a Puerto-Rican or Dominican.

  • we're not mixed man, it's just like that, we can be white or black or in between, even in the same family. Race doesn.t matter for us, but when my father is berber, my mother is berber, why should I be mixed ?

open your mind and go an find african history is rich. Peace.

  • I hear what you want to say, but the truth is that you are mixed. You cannot have a white or a black and be the same race. The in between is the result of the two mixing. Two Puerto-Ricans can be PR's, but one can be white styled and the other can be black styled. Same culture and country, but different people. Do you go by black when not dealing with tribal name;that is, do you side with African or arab/Asians/Europeans?

  • this subject it's a bit too complicate for discussing it in youtube comments. But I'll try to be clear on what I think: All this race bullshit doesn't make sense for us, we're all brothers the blackest one and the whitest one, and if you go about berber history, you will find lots of white or very light-skinned people, who side with africans, also in the arab world you will find black people who side with arabs or asians.

  • maybe in a literal sense you can say that we are mixed, but that's not the therme i suppose, altough I'm not english.

It is a very very very ancient mixing if you want to say that, but who knows?

I think race doesn't matter, I think that your soul it's important, I've seen too many black people acting just like a westerner, so what's the difference? I don't care about your melanine man ! Or about the side of your nose ! You african in your heart, and behaiviour and way of life. Peace

  • Oh yeah, you are mixed and more likely than not from long ago, with exceptions of course. I never said that ou were not Africans because it is clear that the people in this video are. Even the light ones may be on the African side as we have white type African-Americans who can be blacker in the mind than the more African looking ones. It is just that Africa is being pulled from Islam/arabs from one end and Europeans from the other. Both trying to wipe out the African and take the land.

  • Islam is trying to "wipe out the african and take the land"?? Interesting....

    (ignorant people make me sick)

  • listen, it was way better if you said just "these people do hav that african soul" without adding the rest in your comment. In this way you would have a great comment.

And also, if they have that african soul, why are you going to find their race?

Let me tell you that most of you black americans unfortunately, are far away from having "that african soul".

Instead of thinking of your strange theories, THINK how you would find your real african soul brother.

  • why are you so race obssessed? its a western thing, it makes you look bad, north Africa is the land of the berbers, they can be the colour of tinariwen or zinadine zidane but theyre still berbers!

  • It was the white man who started all of this "certain" Africans are not black - even if they look it crap. You blame him. Now, even the white or white styled berbers are on this white sumpremacists crap. Just look on youtube.

  • Those people are missguided, they often want to claim that allberbers are white and all that so westerners can be African, its bullshit, but berbers come in all colours bro!

  • I know they come in all colors, but now why is that? It is mixing.

  • ok, but if you add to that the statement that white or ligh-skinned are not authochtonous and all that... it's bullshit, that is not history, these are only lies.

Lots of berber tribes are natives and are white, that don't make them less african or westerners. They're africans, of course, from the north, they're not wolof or bushmens or mande, but africa is big and we cannnot be all the same !

  • What do you mean? that before these migrations there was only black men even at the edge of the mediterranean sea?

Before all that what you found there, tell me?

The original great black man, who was convicted in the ancient africa, because of the bars you found at the edge of the continent?

Wake up man, migrations are a very human thing, africa is all made up of migrations, and you can't separate alla that simply by color or race like you want to.

  • north africans are mostly whites who are living in mountains and in the north and the more you went to the south ans desert the more you found black people but we are all amazighs, speaks the same language but different dialects and those who speaks arabic are not arabs but arabized

  • Excellent

    Thanks sharing

  • They are Great!

  • Fantastic sound.

  • Great tune ......Im lovn it!! got it on my phone today from ComplimentaryRinger. Com damn good video tooo!

  • Your problem, Shasanni, is simple. You pretend belonging to Touaregs in the aim to tell rubishes about them.

You make me laugh when i read your words. what exists in Mali and Niger is not slavery, but discrimination between tribes and interest conflicts.

Surely, you are not Touareg otherwise, why do you tell this things as comments on a Music group? Why do they have matters about it?

    Takrakadhad abaycor!

  • Incredible story, beautifully shot. I love this.

  • this is one sided what you did not hear, Touareg were a people who captured african people to their south and took them across the sahara to sell them to the arabs as slaves. what you are essentially dealing with is a shift in power to the south to africans at independence.

  • This is commonly overlooked when people discuss slave trading.Africans where capturing other tribes they hated and sold them to Arabs. This was long before America was founded. Arab muslims are the most racist group ever, they look down on Blacks much more than any other group. Black Americam muslims are buying a large load of crap from these phoneys.

  • Don't tell lies about them. Touaregs are a great people, known through courage and tolerance.

C"est raciste de raconter des betises sur eux.

  • i do not need to tell lies on any one in my continent check the history then we can talk about the best way forward.

  • he tells no lies sir

i am a tuareg and its true we held slaves and did sell them to arabs

till this day, many tuaregs see nothing wrong with slavery and view themselves as superior to southern blacks

i wish i could lie about it, but i can't.......

yet, tuaregs did make great accomplishments and have outstanding resilience =)

  • You don't need to lie about it, just say the truth, if you don't it's better to stop talking about it.

Slavery is a past reality of the most societies all over the world, but it's prohibited after. This is the truth if you want to learn it.

I am a Tuareg too, and I will never accept lies about my people!

  • long since u have been to mali or niger i can see

its not a "past reality" at all

there r still many tuaregs in niger who still have slaves

those slaves have been led to believe that they should remain so, maybe u should do ur homework hammza

i am a tuareg myself truth is the truth

our people DO have their flaws

prohibited? who the hell told u that lol. there is still slavery in this world lol

i love my people, my love for them WILL NEVER overshadow TRUTH

maybe u should do the same

  • good to see someone talking truth like ur self, we in Africa must face up to our histories and attitudes to each other across this continent if we want a better africa and a future were outsiders cant take advantage of our differences. i met people from Mauritania who have escaped slavery there,

  • absolutely

hopefully that day where people can be honest with one another comes

then we can move forward =)

    wausi where r u from

  • shasanni i,m made of different peoples in africa so i would prefer to think of my self as belonging to the entire continent, as opposed to one part.

  • nice way to look at things =)

  • Ibrahim, Eyadou and Said will be performing with Tunng in the UK in March. Go and hear these incredible people!!!!!

  • I would love to see and hear the music of Hezbollah... i heard a clip of some such music in the background of a news segment on the radio...and it was just captivating...

BTW, this show is great...it is my dream to travel the world...music, dance, people power, journalism...

  • This Music of Resistance series should be widely publicized and seen by many. It goes a long way in showing different cultures while showing ways we as world citizens are similar.

    Power to the people.

  • Awesome!...& I just got my tickets to see them too! :D

  • Bravo to them !!!!!!!!

  • Very nice.
