Love the video, but is it possible to recut it so the Star Wars audio isn't all over it... and therefore prevent the audio from being turned off by Youtube? 8^D
Used to love Superchannel, I remember before we got it I wnated it so bad I would sit and watch the scrambled lines, then when we finally got it it was awesome. Now everything sucks and is boring, oh well.
I remember tuning into Super Channel on Eutelsat II F1 with an old Amstrad 60cm dish with loads of sparklies! I loved the multi-satellite scene then and still love it all today. Thanks for uploading this video.
I remember the launch of Superchannel at midnight on February 1, 1983 (First Choice wanted to be the first channel to launch, but they had, if I remember, a couple of small CRTC items to iron out, so they had to wait until 6 am).
I even remember they had their own comedy show - The Lost Satellite - it which the premise was that a payTV satellite goes out of orbit and subscribers get bits and pieces of different shows every 20 seconds.
Very cool. I remember staying up till midnight to watch the launch of Superchannel at home and to watch Star Wars for the first time outside of the theater. (which was a HUGE thing at the time). Of course I ended up falling asleep not long after Star Wars started so technically the first complete movie I saw on SC was Urban Cowboy.
I don't think people today appreciate what it meant to watch uncut, commercial free movies at home before to VCR rentals became common place.
lmao The disastrous first incarnation of First Choice/Superchannel. ;-) Yet, it's BETTER than what TMN - The Movie Network (in the east) and Movie Central in the west) is today.
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 1983...the launch of the service that forever changed television in North America...Superchannel(with First Choice coming to the East a little bit after)... :)
I'd like to see some First Choice pay-tv from 1983 if anyone has some. The Superchannel launch video was good. Manitoba didn't get Superchannel till September 1984.
Hey, this is awesome, I've been looking for one of those clips that aired in between the movies in the mid 80's for years, any ideas on where I could find information on them? I know it's a long shot.

In the video they mention Canada. Did they also own Super Channel Europe which started late 80's?

That was another Super Channel, launched on the 30th of January 1987.
This one from 1983 is not the UK channel available on Eutelsat II-F1.
