  • How many rounds did you fire in this 4 day course?

  • @themattlyone 7 to 8 hundred

  • Was the course a gift? If not, how on earth did you get to go for free? I'd give my left you know what (pinky toe) to go for free :D

  • @tool4rage I did a google search for Front Sight & came across a member who had a birthday party planned there who could invite 40 people for a class. The catch was 20 of those people had to be first timers & since the guy didn't know anyone personally he posted the opening on calguns. I responded thinking the slots would be filled but they weren't & he signed me up. I was fortunate to find the page. I bought him some ammo out of appreciation & became a member soon after. Worth it!

  • You can can't make something out of something that isn't there. So what if there wasn't as many blacks a Front sight. It's open to everyone. If they want to come then they will come. I'm black and I when I growing up I went to an all white beach for years. (Because I loved that particular beach) You can't stop going to places just because you want to see diversity, Remember what you're going for ? Good training so you can use a handgun , Rifle etc effectively and safely.

  • @SNSW1 I was simply making an observation. I don't think anyone can use a lack of diversity as a reason to avoid FS. I've been to FS many times since & have seen diverse crowds. If it were my business I would target my advertisements to tap into untapped markets. Guns & the shooting sports have long been enjoyed predominately by white middle aged males. Which is great but to grow the sport & promote the 2nd Amendment you have to diversify & reaching out to women & minorities is smart.

  • $2000.00 for 4 days of training and there is no bathroom and they don't provide lunch?? I don't think so......

  • @defritzel I don't know anyone who paid 2,000 for a course. Everyone I know either got to go free the first time (like I did) or they bought a membership (like I did agterwards). A membership allows you to go as many times as possible so how much you go determines the value of your membership. Front Sight is still growing. They now have bathrooms and a truck where you can purchase breakfast and lunch. Most people still bring their own food to save cash so things work out anyways.

  • I just joined Front Site and I appreciate you thoughts. True diversity is in ideas not skin color. In fact there is more common ground between "races" than within one race. Maybe someday people will stop looking at people as a race classification.

  • @4lifeadventure I agree... the human race is one!!!! Our behavior and actions should be the elements by which we should be judged, not our skin color. With that said there are still people with prejudices, both overt and convert, who's feelings will persist as long as they fear those who are different..

  • @eldogg4life I guess i didn't make my point well said. We have no control what morons think. We can only control how we view others. I absence of a race in any given situation is not inherently raciest. Viewing a group of people and wondering why their are no American Eskimos is just as dangerous as the overt or even covert racist. This video was done many months ago and you may not remember some parts. You were wondering if Front Site had Racist overtones and you notice that one of your

  • @eldogg4life hand gun class had a bunch of old unattractive white women. Later you said that you basically felt better because you found some black people in a different class. Diversity is in ideas not you need to have 5 blacks, 3 Asian, 2 American Natives, 1 Pacific Islander, 3 whites and 2 Brazilians. I never inter a room and ask where is all the Minorities. I would submit that view is just as destructive as the Country Club Golf morons that exclude any race for club membership.

  • @4lifeadventure Acknowledging that a minority group is not represented is as bad as racism? Maybe you should make a distinction between acknowledging something and condoning it. Understanding demographics and race relations is vital to ensuring that all men are treated equally. I explicitly say I do not think their lack of representation equates to racism on Front Sight's behalf only that they are huge demographics which can be tapped into to encourage more new shooters which is FS's goal.

  • Good Review man, Did you become a Life member? Since you live in LV, NV?

  • @dan944 Yup!!!

  • Excuse me sir, do you know why I stopped you today? Do you realize you were doing 93 in a 65mph zone? I'm going to need your license and registration please. Do either of you two fellas have any weapons in the car? LMFAO!!! Do you mean this trunk full and this .40 in my waistband sir? Sorry, I had to put that out there, it was the first thing I thought of when you said you got pulled over on the way to the class.

  • @jus10foote

The cops actually scope out the freeway at that specific time because they know people will be speeding since they are running late for the course intro. He knew we were armed and knew where we were going...lol

  • I know u made this vid a while back but it was very informative. Thanks for sharing.

  • @thestubby0032

    Most def!!!

  • Thanks. Very informative.

  • Front sight is like a community college. Good for the basics and training a large amount of people . I have taken 3 courses there and have since moved on to more advanced training, ie Thunder Ranch, Gunsite and Insight. If you live in the Vegas area, its a great deal. If you have to fly in I would consider finding a place more local.

  • @gtiapr3

It depends, Front Sight has levels so if you advance to a higher level then the degree of difficulty increases. Plus I agree with the saying Pros are simply masters of the basics. I doubt three classes are enough to gauge their highest levels of training. I do agree that it is super convenient for me cause I live in Vegas but even when I didn't I wanted to experience Front Sight. Everyone should do it at least once. Most who do return for a reason. I train with local instructors too.

  • I am from Michigan and plan to attend in April. I've read some distrubing stuff on the internet regarding legal and financial problems of the organization. Any evidence of these problems while you were there beside no running water? I want to buy my plane ticket but want to make sure they are still in business come April. Thanks for your review.

  • @kweym

Well, you can't believe everything you read on the internet. With that said another cliche I like is, "Never say never". Does that mean that I think Front Sight will be going out of business anytime soon??? No, they are hiring more trainers, expanding their training schedule and planning more expansion. I think the no running water is very believable if you've ever been out there. Its REAL expensive to get water in the middle of the desert. I say do it and let us know..

  • Good info dude thanx. I think they teach the meathod u don't like because some circles believe that makes u a smaller target.

  • Very well done. I plan to send you a e-mail because there's too much in your video to comment on in this post.

  • i have just finished my fifth frontsight course. I am a graduate of 2 four day practical rifles 2 four day defensive handgun and the advance tactics handgun course. Did i mention im only 16. Frontsight is a great place to learn the realities of using a weapon capable of deadly force safely. it also allows people to learn the consequences both legaly and moraly of using deadly force. I recommend that every skeptic and gun advocate take atleast one course because it IS training that willl save u.

  • Great review..

We went for the 2nd time in Early June. It was a hot set of 4 days (4 day def. handgun). High temps were 104F to 108F. The 1st time we went was in April and it was 30F in the morning. Being a desert the temps can jump quite a bit. I plan on going again next year since each time we go I get better.

For those of you who haven't gone yet.. There are people selling 1st time student vouchers for as low as $150 which gets rid of the excuse of not being able to afford it.

  • @maniakaz

Yeah my first time was free thanks to a friend. I used one of my certs for a friend to do the shotgun course with me and will be using the second one to take a buddy to do the 4 day practical rifle in October. I can't wait!!!

I have a vid coming up with my thoughts of the 4 day handgun course.

  • Nice review, man. Having been out to FS several times myself, I agree with most of your points. I wouldn't be to quick to denigrate the Weaver approach as "old fashioned" for self-defense purposes, though. Iso is used more in competition, but a lot of LE/Mil organizations still train/use some type of Weaver. I need to do a video sometime comparing the 3-4 major approaches and advantages/disadvantages of each.

  • @ZombieTactics

I'm not denigrating Weaver only commenting that it feels unnatural TO ME. I have yet to see anyone use it in a defensive scenario. I find it makes moving difficult as well. The origin of Weaver is competition shooting too. Thats no knock on either the Weaver or Isosceles. (watch?v=CFq5Qkedl3Q)

Competition promotes survival of the fittest so it is important to follow the evolution of shooting. You're vid is something to look forward to.

  • Great review El, Thanks for sharing. I live on the east coast but I have contacted front sight about potential classes out here. I was a little concerned about the political/tolerance level of the training program, but your video helps a lot. I don't think that Front Sight have plans to expand any time soon, so I'll look into a local training course instead. Maybe I'll share a review of that. Keep the videos coming dude.

  • Excellent video, El.

Have you used any other companies for firearms training?

  • @perspicacity89

My firearms training has come from NRA instructors. These lessons were paid by previous employers who wanted to keep us proficient. I don't consider that much more than marksmanship training. I want to learn how to fight with a gun. I will keep taking courses at F.S. until I master my weapon(s) and movement then I would love to try other schools like Magpul and Tactical Response. Some Army and Marine friends have taught me a thing or two but I would hardly call that training.

  • @eldogg4life Awesome dude. That combined is a lot more training than what the average gun owner receives.

I plan on putting aside some money for training as well. I'm interested in Tactical Response for one.

  • @perspicacity89

I have a 4 day practical rifle class set up of October!!! That should be fun. We talked before about high dollar 1911s and in one of your vids you mentioned that for one of those you could get 3-4 Glocks. Well I see it as you could get one Glock and get training to learn how to use it...lol

Its gonna cost money to train no matter the gun you buy. That is why I advised you get a (high value) inexpensive gun like a Glock and some ammo to facilitate training. Cant go wrong there.

  • @eldogg4life Practical rifle sounds fun! I know, I know, the high dollar 1911s are really expensive. But at this point, nothing speaks to me like an Ed Brown 1911. It'll be my pride and joy, and probably one of the few very expensive guns in my collection. Glocks don't mean what to me what they used to anymore, I really don't know why.

No doubt whichever gun I get, I'm going to train with it. :-)

Though I want to buy a G19 or G17 for future CCW, so I might as well train on that.

  • @eldogg4life But I can't CCW in my state anyway, so there's no point in buying a purely fighting pistol right away. I might as well buy a work of art and shoot the crap out of it at the range than buy a Glock and use it sparingly.

I'm planning to do a lot of shooting, so I will be reloading. I already have a Lee Press that I got for free from a dude on Glock Talk.

  • @perspicacity89

My words are only what I would do in your situation. I lived in CA... I left. Nevada is a good gun state and I can go to CA whenever I want.

You want works of art, I understand but also consider the basics for defense and the fact that you'd be fucked if a "Zombie" kicked down your door tonight. You'd be defenseless. You have no shotgun ($350) or no handgun ($550) and all because you're saving for a work of art. Its not practical. Thats all I'm saying.

  • @eldogg4life I realize it is not practical, and that is the biggest factor causing me anxiety in making this decision. It will take a very long time for me to save up the money in order to get this gun.

Although, I have been wanting a Remington 870 for a very long time now and it's definitely been on my mind as a home defense weapon.

  • Think with your brain and not your heart.

High end AR-15s run around $2500-$3000. You wouldn't be able to carry it but it might provide much more bang and fun for your money. Plus that is a better option for self/home defense. I could not justify spending grands on a handgun when there are more versatile and powerful options out there. The strength of a pistol is that its concealable. Which you can't do anyways.

Better to make a $600 mistake than a $3000 one.

  • @eldogg4life I totally disagree. First of all, given all the ass backwards CA laws, I'm not going to buy an AR (high end or otherwise) until I am out of this state. Secondly, your perspective and my perspective for what counts as "justifiable" when spending money on firearms come from two different places. It is obvious you are more interested in the self defense aspect of firearms, while I am currently more interested in its recreational uses. So what might seem like a good idea to me might

  • @eldogg4life seem ludicrous to you. Third, from my understanding and personal philosohpy, the most effective and versatile weapon for home defense is a shotgun, and those things don't cost all that much. So if I am going to buy an HD weapon, it will be a shotgun, not a rifle (not to mention the issue with rifles being unwieldy and over-penetrative for HD situations).

Fourth, when I buy a 1911, I can surely use it for home defense. A .45ACP is a formidable round and perfectly suitable for HD.

  • @eldogg4life So the strength of a pistol also comes into play in HD.

Lastly, if I am going to spend any of my money on something, I research the crap out of it before I make the decision to buy something. Yes, sometimes I will make mistakes, but more often than not, this method of acquiring knowledge about a given item beforehand has served me well. And I highly, highly, highly doubt I will take chances when purchasing a $2000+ gun.

  • @perspicacity89

There is always the chance people will change their minds. Thats why there exists divorce and pro-owned guns...lol

People change their mind. There's nothing wrong with that. I just find it odd that someone would make videos on guns and talk about spending thousands of dollars on guns and they don't even own one to save their tail. We can talk calibers, CA laws and cost all day but I'd hate for you to need a gun and not have one because you waited. But its on you.

  • @eldogg4life Very true. Like I said, jury's still out. I won't know what I'm going to do until I have a good chunk of money anyway. With how indecisive I've been these past couple of weeks, who knows what I'll end up buying.

But thanks for the concern, dude.

  • @perspicacity89

We've all had those moments of being in limbo. And some of us gun folks have spend a lot of cash on the goodies we enjoy. The beauty of youtube is that hopefully we can all learn something from one another's experiences. You know Front Sight is not far from CA. Many students do the commute and say its a breeze. When you get a gun and whatever you choose I think they'd be able to square you away on learning to draw, handle and shoot it.
