Well actually both could have killed each other, much earlier than that, but of course that the chances were on the bear side. It was bigger and more powerfull and made a living on usurping carcasses from other predators. This bear was a kleptoparasite so was specialized in bluffing and even fighting off other predators.

however you have to realize two things first this fight is merely an estimated recreation and second it's possible the mega lion as only able to bit into the fat layer of the bears neck so it's teeth possibly missed the vitals in the neck. plus mega lion just doesn't have the adaptions to take down a massive offensive predator, a bison ok but it would never actually aim to harm the lion merely but to merely scare him away from the herd
