This was not too bad a production for a 1963 B picture. Of course it's dated and melodramatic by today's standards, But keep in mind that America was a whole different place back then. Most people were struggling to understand how America could produce monsters like Starkweather, or Perry Smith and Dick Hickcock, the pair of creatures that wiped out the Clutter family during that same era.
This story was redone so many times. There was even a made for tv version where Tim Roth of all people played Starkweather and Faruza Balk played the teenage girl. It was probably the most accurate movie as far as the story went.
Horrible person this Charles Starkweather, and a coward, but he got his in 1959 when they fried him in the chair, too bad the not so innocent girlfriend got parolled.
The actor who played that guy was also a part of the production crew. I can't remember if he was the production manager or what but it was something like that. There weren't that many people who worked on it though and in those situations everybody has lots of jobs.
...but the groveling. I couldn't stand it. I'm pretty sure in a situation like that I would have been shot, but I'd have broke that bully's nose, at least.
A person can only kill ya once, but that guy died, at least, twice.
