The sheer size of that wall is unfathomable. It's funny to see idiots criticizing these guys, just getting to where they jumped from takes incredible skill and determination.
These people have allowed those like myself to participate in one of the most beautiful, dangerous, and incredibly physically AND psychologically demanding things in human existence. Thank you. Rest in peace to all those who, with blood, sweat, tears, friends, loved ones, and their own lives, paved the way for all in the BASE community.
BASE specific rigs that are tested true in every conceivable circumstance...that have one way vents on the bottom so that object strike may end up in "riding the wall down" instead of certain death...that have tailgates to prevent line-overs that can spiral you to your death...that have WLO toggles that can simply reliably and safely release from your brake lines to clear a line over immediately...I can go on and on.
It is these brave people, who constantly push and cross their physical and psychological boundaries to extremes few people in human history have ever, do, or will experience, who have allowed us to be at the point in BASE that we are at today.
why wold the lower jumper open his shoot before one chasing him. the one above could have landed in the lower guy's shoot and both would be dead, i guess on high altitudes with no oxygen the brain gets stupid.
@guitarfan1979 Well I always thought that nowadays there are certain parts of Pakistan which you could enter and its completely safe. Especially places like Skardu, where I guess there isn't much of any political influence?
"On 26 August 1992, Australians Nic Feteris and Glenn Singleman climbed Great Trango and then BASE jumped from an elevation of 5,955 metres (19,537 ft) on the Northwest Face, landing on the northern side of the Dunge Glacier at an altitude of 4,200 metres (13,779 ft)."
The distance they fell was roughly 1755 meters (5,756 ft). The summit of the Great Trango Tower is 6,286m so it's about 2,086m (6,842 ft) tall (i.e. top to bottom).
What' looks most dangerous to me is that the second person can get caught in the first's parachute, as they jump simultaneously and are so close to each other. I don't know, never jumped like that..
That was a horrible demonstration of how to BASE jump. Location is awesome, the climb is legendary but man, their BASE skills are seriously lacking......
@derhimmelstoss- Lots of jumps are made with cameras including big heavy set ups and that doesn't happen. I am quite familiar with what the winds are like in freefall. Thinner air as some people have said would alos not be enough to throw their control out that much especially after 7 or 8 seconds......
@derhimmelstoss Those cameras arent so big they would make a BASE-jump uncontrollable. In skydiving/BASE wind, or rather 'relative wind' is your friend. Its what enables you to "fly". These guys didnt fly, they fell. They tumbled the entire descent, and it looked dangerous.
Wow! That looked like a chaotic fall. I wonder if this free fall was planned exactly in that way, especially on the start. That looks too dangerously...
professional idiots on closed course. Please do not attempt without first asking your health care provider if you are a nutjob. If watching this gives you an erection that lasts over four hours discontinue use of the video immediately and apply a habanero based sauve to the affected area. When the screaming stops reapply and visit the zoo.
well thats over 2000m higher than a normal skydive so yeah its really thin air that makes it harder to breathe and harder to fall becuase theres not so much windresistance, thats why they are almost hitting the wall :)
the air is VERY thin up there, and after a hike like that you would be exhausted. its hard to be stable when there is so little air around you. these guys are good/ ballsy
The Karakorum mountain range (NW end of the Himalaya) in the NE corner of Pk. These towers are at the end of the Baltoro Glacier - the region around it is called Concordia - and they are not far from the mountain which may be only 2nd highest but is 1st for awesome: K2.
I saw this on television, the second dude almost died because he could not deploy his parachute because he was wobbling. The wobbling was caused by the weight of the camera gear on his head.
tracking?never heard about it.what is it?I didn`t mean that the base jumpers was crazy in a negative way, they are people who I admire. Greetings from Norway :-)
He was referring to the sketchy base jump. Tracking is when the basejumpers/skydivers sweep their arm backwards and stretches their legs, causing them to "fly" forwards, or track. Basejumpers usually track away from the wall, and these guys failed to do just that.
- They were tumbling all the way down.Could be excused by the thin air,but i wouldnt be surprised if they died.
- The first dude seemed to deploy his chute in the second guys face.Relying on vertical separation alone isnt exacly safe
Well ... I also got the whole dokumentation. In this, the serious part of the alpine climb ist also nice to see. Perhaps I also can offer this (seperatet in a few parts).

It seems like they took a huge risk jumping so close to one another. They were very close to hitting eachother during their chute openings.
