  • I didn´t know a man sung this song LOL "akward"

  • J'adore !

  • Thank you!!!!!!!

  • Excellent! I really like this song. Barry's voice is magnificent. This video is very romantic ...

  • Perhaps the best song of all time? I think its brilliant anyway - could not be sung by anyone else but Barry! Love it!!

  • Thanks for a great song

  • THIS GREAT SONG WILL REMAIN A TIMELESS LEGEND!!

  • Wow! Goth starts here!

  • How come they have a reindeer in the vid? They don't live in the Alps.

  • ahahahahahaha true . Ahh the 60's

  • bibi...Don't fret! You prolly know that the Alps are often warm & sunny, & there's no better place to sing Eloise,. or to ski, or, to just enjoy the apres ski. Huh! now I sound like an advert!

But..the point is, he didn't lose his voice..he's here, & he sings Eloise... like back then!

    Thanks Barry;)

    Thanks Paul.

    & thanks eva.s, for sharing.

  • I meant under this comment,if someone else made the choice FOR you..when it's about what you should wear...Anyway..I would have been VERY concerned about you, dear man.

  • od dear...Barry where was this taken...?

    Really outside?Somewhere in the Alps?

And you're wearing only a thin shirt...??(that vest or something doesn't help much! either..) I mean please always take care of your voice!!!! Don't know if you had a free choice of wearing what YOU like? But if it was someone else?He/she would have had the biggest snowball in his/her face I could make!(from me IF I was there! LOL) Such a great loss if your voice was/ is gone !! Take Care,

    Love&Hugs.

  • From french tv show "Avoriaz Ski Show Schuss" taped in 1969 in Avoriaz (french alps)

  • Mijn nummer 1 hit allertijden! Weg met de Bohemian Rapsody.

  • And according to another youtube clip, his was the first video, not Bohemian Rhapsody. Wie weet? Hangt van de deifinitie af.

  • Dat find ik grappig !!

  • This is one mighty song.

  • Shall I take you exactly 40 years back, when I first heard on the radio this memorable and explosive " Eloise ", in Dec 08 ?

It was my personal 68 Music shock ! I'd never heard anything like it, so theatrical, so huge !

And I didn't take part to the youth movement, too young for that ...

I have a few amusing memories and anecdotes to write ...

I'd only been studying English at school for two years and three months ( and a very traditional English ), which wasn't enough, of course, ...

  • ... to understand it all.

But a schoolfriend brought the girls'

" Mademoiselle Age Tendre "( Miss Tender Age ), with pictures of Barry in, and the lyrics of the song, which was great, and

I wrote them down at break,( no photocopying at the time ) and with the help of a good dictionary at home, I was able to understand and translate it all.

You, English-speaking natives, may not realize how much I learnt this way, listening to it at the same time.

Nothing to see with our school ...

  • English, a shame our teachers wouldn't teach us songs ... fun or pleasure in class weren't to be.

And yet, there was a lot of new words and even grammar ( no future tense after when )to learn, ... and I learnt it by myself, and never forgot them.

Do you forget what you like ?

And so, " Eloise ", immediately followed by

" Love is Love ", and then, my first stay in England a few months later, were the start of my real interest in English and Britain.

Any other personal memory to share ?

  • Good story! These 2 great videos are probably my best discoveries on YouTube; had never seen them before and now can't get enough! Prefer by far Catapum1000's video of Eloise - didn't see it in your favourites??

  • no future tense after when. C'est avec "When I'm Sixty-Four" que je l'ai enfin et définitevement intégré.

  • Merci mon ami. I like Britain too

  • Oeieieee Great, love it:)..my parents are listen to thsi song!

  • I was named after this song. =]

  • I had a jacket like that. I was 8. They made little ones for kids.

  • But few French people know or remember that Barry wasn't only Eloise, and I was aware enough to realize it, without any other video than this one. And so, I could enjoy their music and follow Barry's singer career first part of the seventies, and then I missed some.

Memorable songs ! Memorable Julys in England too !" De chouettes souvenirs " !

    Such a " Nostalchic " music " Today "

I wonder if P & B had the slightest idea it would make a worldwide hit when writing and recording it ...

    Odile

  • Paul & Barry Ryan were unknown to the French until Barry suddenly exploded the charts with this song in Dec 68. What an explosive year ! we'd already had one earlier that year, in May !

Eloise was " un véritable et durable coup de coeur ", a music play by itself, a music revolution to the teenage girl I was then, and an excellent motivation to improve my school English ! ... to be continued ...

  • Fascinating comment giving insight into the spirit of those times. 'A music play by itself' - yeah, it's fantastic and hilarious with almost melodramatic touches. So much work has gone into this piece of music, which is such a contrast to these days of lazy fakes and phonies - the 'Idols', girl divas and rappers!

  • Hi Barry,

    Thanx,

Porte de soleil! I do that!

It's a great place to ski.

You have to ski "The Wall" to cross the border.. France/Switzerland.

    The French were smart..

The Swiss turned their pretty Alpine villages into resorts, but the French climbed a bit further up their mountain and created "purpose built resorts" like Avoriaz.

    Ski-ing is a passion -

    I learned in France

    >>>

  • Avoriaz 2000.... France

    They'd just built it!!!

    :)b

  • Hi Barry,

Do you remember where this was filmed?

It looks like many French ski resorts!

......I'd just like to know if I have skied the same piste as Killy!!!

Well, not quite as quick of course!

    Keep on boodling¨!

    Luv CB

  • Woahhh!!!

Always wanted to be this thin...

    Thanks Eva S

    Barry :)

  • Oh No! Don't stretch it sideways...it might be painful!!....

And anyway, wide screens make everybody look fat with a long nose(sideways)...

Here... it's good! Even the dozy cow..sorry, Reindeer, looks skinny!!

Does anyone know where this was filmed?

    >>>

  • This video picture has an aspect ratio problem...needs to be stretched out sideways.

  • Yes, I can see this, I don't know what happened it was OK for a year, and I don't have access now to the original file after a storex crash...

  • i was named after this song even though my parents dont even like the song lolz :]

  • A masterpeace made by his brother.

  • Who is the girl who plays "Eloise" in this video?

  • Brilliant!

  • 05.22 Jean Claude Yes!!

  • Truly uplifting

  • Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to post this, Eva - you are truly a "superstar"!

  • In the 60s he sang as a duo with his twin brother Paul Ryan . However Paul didnt like the stress of public attention so he took up songwriting . He wrote Eloise for his brother and also composed hits for Frank Sinatra & Dana.

Paul sadly died of cancer years later.

  • Hmmm, finally heard the song that has my name as the title.. interesting, and so many people talk about this song.. and ask me if I'm named after it! Plus the annoyingness of people never saying the name right!

  • I NO RITE sooooo annoying

especially wen they say aloweese or louise ITS ELOISE!!!!

hahaha this song is soo dodgy

  • This is not just a song, this is a "life feeling"!!! Great!!

  • i used to own that horse!

  • powerful, absolute work of art

  • The first time I heard this song was way back in the late 60s and since then it has been haunting me. I heard it again today by chance. One of the greatest unrequited love song, sung with gut busting feeling! 5 stars!

  • Absolutely awesome song! Easily one of the best ever. Thanks so much for the clip.

  • I love this song and video clip as well

  • Paul is Barry´s twin brother. He wrote "Eloise" and a lot of great songs, but he died at the age of 44.

  • Tolles Lied

  • es untema sin

    comparacion

  • great to see this for the FIRST time, great song !!!! yeahhh :-)-)

  • Whatever happened to well-crafted ballads like this, with gargantuan arrangements (half the London Philharmonic moonlighting..?!). Songs like this remind me of Saturday afternoons as a kid, watching pure escapism movies. 60's kitsch, maybe, but seriously, one of the greatest genre pop ballads ever. Thanks for this.

  • ukgolfa, what can I say? Apart from Eloise, the only 'ballad' that gets near to it is Richard Harris''McArthur Park'. The lyrics may be the worst in musical history but as spactacle goes...not much comes near!

  • A masterpiece by Paul Ryan!

  • you're right ... :) ?

  • Just as "Love is Love" and "Theme to Eutopia" (my favourites).

However, the clip 's somehow odd - weary, asleep at the switch???????

  • ... but anyhow gorgeous!!! :)

  • Great song, great lyrics and the greatest performer ever!!! Thanks for posting the complete song.

  • still a great song.

  • true the sound quality is much better on this one

  • Oh God, he's still shouting at me ! stop Barry, I'm not that far away ! Eloïse

  • coooooooooool:)

  • Wow! Oh Man, You Tube is a freaking time machine. LOL!

  • I was eight by then. This song and Bobby Goldsboro's Honey were my favorites from that year. I cried when they left the charts. They still give me goosebumps.

  • The sound on this video is even better than the other. This old song just break my heart and brings tears to my eyes. I was 9 years old in 1968 but I remember it.

  • I spent a three hour train journey with these guys and their Mum while this was still a hit. The corridor was full of squealing girls. It was great.

  • i named my 5th daugter Eloïse because of this song

  • Mejor la de Tino Casal

Правдa?

  • Ja toshe dumayu sto Eloise Tino Casala luche. Ja toshe Ispanka. Eloise Barry Ryana prabda, no Tino Casala luche. Eto prosta!

  • This is grate ! I keep hearing and hearing the song. It was my beloved song when I was very young.

  • I have the original 45 single.Where can I find this song with Barry Ryan on cd ? It's fantastic ! Thanks for posting.

  • Barry Ryan recently made a new cd featuring Eloise. Well worth looking out for. Also worth checking out Scorpio Rising by Paul Ryan

  • It can't believe that only 3 million copies were sold.

  • I loved it when I was 4 years old. And I still love it.

  • Tmeless...a timeless song...

  • yeah, bohemian rhapsody was the first hit that went longer than three minutes ,right

  • wrong. the animals house of the rising sun was 4+ mins

  • brilliant song which has never aged would not be out of place in todays chart

  • yes. Brilliant!!!!1
