I wonder how much did that one plate of seal cost? probably 40$ for a tiny little plate. in my experience when something is underground or not mainstream, it is retardedly expensive.
"Gamey, iodine, and a taste of seaweed." Well that sounds delicious. :-( As far as parliament members "dining on seal" Wednesday, They ate a piece that could fit on a single cracker, and to disguise the the taste, from what I've heard is pretty bad, it had to be wrapped in double smoked bacon.
If you come so obnibulated to crualty made to animals that you come not to be able to make the difference between a seal and a human life, I guess you should go to a psychiatrist.
And to anyone who did send emails with death threat to the chef of this restaurant, I would definitely command them to reach for psychiatric help the sooner the better.
I don't support crualty made to animals, but somehow you have to face it, man eat animals. Making death threats for this cause doesn't make sense.
Stupid: (gotta love that handle): Also, if, by "aiding in the destruction of lives and culture" of people, you mean I am helping to force them to look elsewhere for jobs than the cruel, inhumane and disgusting slaughter of baby seals, then I'm glad to help. Their "culture" is as sick as those of bullfighters, dogfighters and trophy hunters... other "cultures" I would like to see "destroyed".
Is that really so "extreme"?
PS your language is foul, as is usual for people who defend slaughter.

"Stupid" comment: Come up with something more original will you? Exactly who the fuck do you think you are claiming you're "helping" these people? You're like the white man forcing religion and white man "civility" upon native americans after calling them savages for living in the woods. Who the fuck asked you for help in the first place? Mind your OWN fucking business and stay the fuck out of the lives of others why don'tcha? My language may be foul but you're still a hate mongering prick.
Stupid: (what a fitting handle): sounds like you're the one who knows nothing about the seal slaughter, if you have to ask "what baby mammals?" Why, the baby seals, of course! They're the ones getting clubbed.... and didn't you know seals are mammals? Just like you are? (I think).
And they have no more "disease" or "worms" than any other mammals. In fact, since they eat seafood, they're a heckuva lot healthier than humans, who eat any crap put on their plate, including seal flesh.

We are not killing "baby" seals. The mothers of these disease carrying worm infested sea rodents abandon to thier own devices long before they are legally allowed to be hunted. If the mothers don't consider them "babies" then they are NOT babies. You are simply another emotionally driven environmentally retarded cult member.
Life spans differ from animal to animal. The fruit fly lives for a day. Does that mean next time you smack 4 or 5 fruit fly's dead against the counter you should be deemed a monster for killing something but only a few hours old?
Precisely. 1. A seal lives to be about 35 years old a 3 week old seal is a baby. 2. When sea turtles are hatched they are independent of their mothers, know how to swim and eat solid food. Does that mean they are born as "adults" 3. The biggest peer reviewed research paper (EFSA) ever done on all seal hunts around the world calls the seals targeted by the Canadian seal hunt "neonatal". That's scientific speak for BABIES. You sick individual. I'd hate to see what you policy on sex with minors is

A report on Arctic pollution was released in early October by the Norway-based Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP), reported the Associated Press (AP), report by Lars-Otto Reiersen.
The report, entitled Arctic Pollution 2, says that mercury and other toxins in the food chain are threatening humans and wildlife in the Northern Hemisphere.
I find most people to be arrogant, non-feeling, revolting and bloodlusting breatthing beings on this planet. The things they find to eat are not just appauling, but sickening.
The Inuit of the world become the net recipients of the by-products of pesticides that are used. Contaminants in the Arctic are inhigh concentrations at the bottom of the Arctic sink where the marine mammals live and eat.
In the mid-1980s (even more today) scientists find high levels of toxic chemicals known as persistent organic pollutants in the blood and fat tissues of the Inuit and other people there. They say the toxins can cause cancer, damage reproductive and neurological organs.
wtf. there making such a big deal about eating seal at one restaurant.. and at the same time 5384959356738 animals are killed (painfully) everyday for your food!..like wth.. think about it. And i know theres a smaller about of seals on the earth, but who cares?! I think when people eat meat they don't think of it as an actual dead animal, that once had eyes, nose, lungs, brain... ew. Sorry im really bored right now.
Jean knelt above a pair of carcasses and used a traditional blade to slice the meat off the skin. After repeated, vigorous cuts through the flesh the Queen's representative turned to the woman beside her and asked enthusiastically: "Could I try the heart? "
Afterward Jean grabbed a tissue to wipe clean her blood-soaked fingers, and explained her gesture of solidarity with the region's Inuit hunters.
RANKIN INLET, NunavutOn the first day of her trip to the Arctic Michaëlle Jean gutted a freshly slaughtered seal, pulled out its raw heart, and ate it. Hundreds of Inuit at a community festival gathered around as the Governor General made a gesture of solidarity with the country's beleaguered seal hunters.

You'll notice that the people who complain about seal meat not being used from the commercial hunt are the same people that post propaganda about how the meat's toxicity and taste.

If we create domestic markets through grocery outlets, restaurants, and fashion industries we won't need the blessing of the EU. With all of the caving in Canada has done for the extremists and the EU it's about time some money and effort was put into promoting seal meat as an alternative food source and seal fur as a high end fashion item. Keep our fishermen working while ridding the ocean of these disease carrying worm infested sea rodents is a win/win situation.

I agree. We need better domestic distribution.
Rex Murphy is right. The EU should have been told that they should not be risking the free trade talks over this issue.
After all, the ban is not supported by the EU commissioned EFSA report so we should wonder if we can trust yet another party where non elected groups can have undue influence.

On April 21st, 2009 the Agence France-Presse published an article entitled "New food craze: seal meat au chocolat", in which they describe how it is prepared by chefs in Montreal (the same restaurant featured in this video) and the Magdalen Islands. Quite interesting.

Bison is getting pretty common in some chains here in Canada so who knows. Emu meat sales are also starting to pick up.
It would be probably being seasonal because the hunt is limited.
