It's supposed to be grey, but it does look blackish.

There isn't any specific reason, but I guess the change was made to show his "Old and dying" theme and to correspond with the weird shit going on with the animus. If you notice the menus went from white in AC2/Brotherhood to Black/Grey in Revelations.

I loved and was very pleased with AC Brotherhood so I was excited when I picked up Revelations because I was expecting just as much or more innovation but received none. All they did was add the hook blade and the bombs but apart from that and a few minor details its just the same game recycled. I really should have bought Arkham City instead. Was disappointed.
